Small, holdable, and pocketable

The small form factor of this camera makes it incredibly easy to hold and shoot video with. The thing that makes it really usable though is the simple menu systems, one button recording and that the camera powers up almost instantly, so it’s ready to go when you are.

vlog stand<img alt=”vlog stand” src=”https://m.media-amazon.com/images/S/aplus-media-library-service-media/2b4f2daa-ea93-4197-b1aa-292c45b188a9.__CR0,23,1000,538_PT0_SX650_V1___.png”/>

Stand right there

With a built-in stand, this incredibly convenient feature allows you to place the camera almost anywhere to get the shots you need. It can lean the camera back or forward with 30 degrees of angle for both. You could even hold the camera by the handle upside down and the video will be reoriented.

Did you hear that?

vlog microphones<img alt=”vlog microphones” src=”https://m.media-amazon.com/images/S/aplus-media-library-service-media/6412bdf9-7df4-4376-a614-39952775187e.__CR0,531,3464,1420_PT0_SX1464_V1___.png”/>

Sound is just as crucial as video when vlogging, which is why we’ve included two large stereo microphones to capture your voice clearly, and a third microphone to help cancel out unwanted sounds. With the PowerShot V10, the whole studio is right in your hand.

Seeing the whole picture

The 19mm (35mm equivalent) lens on the V10 is perfect for getting yourself and anyone else you want into the frame, but more importantly, it’s wide-angle enough that if you are recording yourself, you don’t have to have your arm completely outstretched, so you look more natural.

cmos sensor<img alt=”cmos sensor” src=”https://m.media-amazon.com/images/S/aplus-media-library-service-media/2bb56200-deb3-482b-a293-e20bc64a40be.__CR0,280,2875,1548_PT0_SX650_V1___.png”/>

How do I look?

With the 1” CMOS sensor you are going to look great, even in low light! The built-in subject detection helps to keep your face in focus and well-lit. The V10 also has image stabilization, exposure control, movie auto level, smooth skin movie mode, a built-in automatic ND-filter, and more!

guy using tripod<img alt=”guy using tripod” src=”https://m.media-amazon.com/images/S/aplus-media-library-service-media/ae94d8f2-d7e3-4e24-bb0b-649c408b0fd0.__CR0,0,650,350_PT0_SX650_V1___.png”/>

Going sideways

By default the PowerShot V10 captures video horizontally, but that isn’t always what you need. Want to go vertical? No problem. Just turn the camera on its side and it will automatically change the aspect ratio to vertical.

filters<img alt=”filters” src=”https://m.media-amazon.com/images/S/aplus-media-library-service-media/93e140e2-5dad-4c93-8e48-7c4bea17c5c4.__CR0,578,4500,1844_PT0_SX1464_V1___.png”/>

Filters

What is a vlog shoot without some filters? The PowerShot V10 has 14 color filters built-in so you can change the mood and ambiance to fit the scene. There is also one extra filter – an automatic ND Filter (Neutral Density), which helps darken a video without affecting how the colors look.

It’s a still camera too!

The high-sensitivity 15.2-megapixel, 1-inch CMOS sensor captures some great images with Auto Photo mode (equivalent to A+ Scene Intelligent Auto).

    Quirky and Fun

The Canon V10 is such a unique take on camera design. It’s about the same size as a flip phone from the early 2000’s. It fits comfortably in your pocket and feels genuinely good in the hand. Image quality is actually good with its one inch sensor, especially for filming indoors or in lowlight where smart phones and action cameras tend to struggle. The other thing that’s surprised me is the quality of audio that comes straight from the camera. I got a cage for this so I could use an external mic, but I’ve been so pleasantly surprised with the camera’s onboard audio that I haven’t bothered using any other microphones. In terms of picture profiles, tue V10 has skipped the usual profiles that every other Canon camera has and instead, has opted for a few random ones that kind of look like social media filters. I do wish they would add the original profiles in a firmware update so we could have a bit more control over the colors coming out of the camera because as of right now, there’s no way to control things like saturation, contrast or sharpness. As far as image stabilization goes, you have a standard and enhanced mode. Standard stabilization is ok, but still has a really noticeable amount of shake if you’re walking around or if you’re filming any kind of footage that has any movement. Enhanced mode is the only mode that actually works ok for these types of scenes, but the problem is, it has such a significant crop that your 19mm lens now looks more like a 28mm lens which just isn’t that wide. If there’s a Mark II version of this camera next year, it would be nice to see a 10mm lens that becomes a 19mm with all of the stabilization added so users can get stable footage while still retaining that wide angle look. Having said that, the Canon V10 has been such a pleasant surprise for me. I had no idea I would like this camera as much as I do. There’s just something about this design that makes you want to take it with you everywhere you go. It’s such a quirky little camera that’s just genuinely fun to use. Highly recommended.

Pros and cons; requires an SD card; on-board touchscreen

I acquired this camera through Vine. I was interested in the product for vlogging, live streaming, and general video capture. It’s incredibly easy to use. You can just point and shoot if you choose. The onscreen menu and settings give you plenty of typical camera options as you might expect from Canon, which is a major plus. Autofocus and things like that.To navigate the menu, you can use the buttons on the camera, or navigate on the screen as it does support touch, which is incredible.Video gets saved to an SD card… which is required. You can view and manage content right on the screen, or you can hardwire connect to a device to view and manage content. To up your game, you can connect the camera to your smartphone using an app. This allows you to remotely control the camera from your smartphone. You can also update the camera’s firmware and download content from the camera’s SD card to your phone. I did have a firmware update available, which did not take much time to download on my phone and install on the camera.I am not aware of an option to connect the camera to a laptop or desktop computer wirelessly. I would like this option as I prefer to work on my laptop and not on my phone when editing video. But if live streaming, connecting to a mobile device should be fine. Though I did not test this feature.I did try to connect a lavalier microphone to it using the USB-C port on the camera. This did not work. I think it would be neat too, as a wireless mic option, if I could use my phone’s microphone somehow as it would be closer to me if I’m using it as a remote. The camera does have a mic port, but I did not test this feature.

Very Nice Canon Vlog Camera – Power Shot V10 Model – Internal Battery – Rechargeable…

Before anything the first thing that hit me was that when the battery cannot be recharged anymore you have to toss the whole thing, unless you can send it to Canon for repair/replacement of the battery. Canon has given no indication whatsoever as to that aspect. The camera does what it’s designed to do and it does it nicely. I ran it throught the basics and I am pleased with the results. Video quality is excellent. I wouldn’t use it for a point and shoot for snapshots though, it’s not really designed for that function. The sound is good, but I will always use an external mic. The 4K crops a bit so if you want the wider field of view you might not want to use the IS. Me on the other hand will use the IS because it is me that I am vlogging about, not my surroundings, nuf said. The little stand has sufficient friction to hold it in any position I set it at but I will never use that silly tape thing on it. I’ve reviewed the cage so I won’t comment here. I’ve put it on a “selfie” stick I got from Amazon, a chaeapy, but it held nicely and I wasn’t worried and that’s one of the tests of the camera is the use of the selfie stick. The last thing I want to cover is the price. The price of this camera is outrageously high, which is what all Canon’s cameras are becoming; extremely high priced. Is this camera a value, it depends. Since all photo stuff from cameras to accessories are alway pricey you have to consider what the value is to you. For me, it is pricey but a good value because it does what I want it to do and it does it very nicely. Explaination of two star rating: Outrageously high price, overheating, internal battery(toss whole thing when no more charging), shutting down on long shoots, micro sd card (not supplied) finally the box contained an Australian/New Zealand warranty which I had to go nuts to find out if it is waranteed here in America, it is, I called Canon, registered it so that showed it was covered(that’s all I know).

Super high quality since its a Canon

There is a ton of good things to like about this little camera, and a few things to dislike. Its Canon, so the build quality is excellent. The form is great, you can tell they took the time to really think through the design. And best of all it has an actual 1″ sensor. Cellphone cameras have really improved for video over the past several years, but aside from maybe iphone, there is still a lot those little sensors can’t do that an actual 1″ sensor can. The wide angle lens and autofocus are also excellent, as you would expect from Canon. Also, when comparing this camera to smart phone cameras, it’s really better to consider it against the front facing camera on a smart phone as that is the camera that can provide the same selfie style of vlog filming as this can. When you make that comparison, all current smart phones fall well short of what this little camera is capable of.So what’s not to like? The stabilization is good, but not as good as I had hoped, again as compared to the latest smart phones. The price is the other, it’s really not that bad considering how expensive things have gotten, especially the latest smart phones, but it still feels a little overpriced – however, you get what you pay for and no one knows how to make consumer cameras better than Canon.

Excellent as a basic vlog camera and outperforms GoPro in long format sessions

As a basic vlog camera this one is excellent imo. Especially useful for long format videos were my GoPro tends to overheat and shut down. The Canon seems to handle the heat better. Yes still gets warm to hot but more controlled and so far no shutdowns. Typically recording a podcast session of about 1hr to a little over and 7 out of 10 times the GoPro shuts down. Canon hasn’t yet. This alone is a win for my use case.Quality of video is decent. Great again for short format socials, second camera or even main footage. Is it Pro level, no, but for most, myself included, it is way good enough. The built in stand is really a nice feature as well for stationary work. Just pop it and go. Excellent. SW, well I have no idea why these companies just sucks at SW integration. This follows Canon’s less then stellar approach. They all seem intent to harness a priority SW set up and make things as challenging as possible. Sure, once you finally work through the install it works but its not easy, its not simple and its not intuitive. I should probably ding a star but honestly I record and pull the raw video off the card and edit outside of Canon’s SW so who cares… So bottom line if you want a short format action camera, probably not this. If you want a vlogging camera working at a desk of limited on the go,. this camera is an outstanding option.

It’s perfect for someone like me getting to know Cameras, maybe a bloggers dream.

To summarize shortly, for someone who wants to get into photography and general camera work and expand into IRL content creating, this has been great in the past month! This camera is really in its own zone of daily videography hardware for the size and quality. The closest thing I can compare this to is started Sony cameras or just above a phones camera and I think it’s really helping me decide if I want to continue in this direction. The most important thing, video quality. ➤ There are some presets, 1080p 30, 1080p 60 (59hz), and 4k 24fps. I think it really a stands out in 1080p 60 but 4k is great too, still a basic 4k option only 30fps but for photography that would be my go-to and for vlogging type videos 1080p 60fps.The Canon software features is pretty good, there’s some digital zoom options which is ok, I prefer having a more wide selection of zoom options but for this camera space it gets the job done. There’s also some image stabilization which is great, it does zoom a little when chosen but the return is worth it. There’s also auto ND for sunlight and it’s pretty good in sunlight, but in low light and dark areas it can be a bit dark, there’s not much grain but the quality is just not as good. Auto focus is good. Really this camera comes with everything to pull out, record, and that’s it. It’s like a ready to go camera and for me as a newer user that’s perfect. The camera build quality itself is really nice. ➤ Good quality it feels great! Exactly what I expect from Canon even for a starter camera. There’s a flip screen which is expected but it just feels solid like you can really move it around as hard as you want and it doesn’t feel cheap at all. There’s also a little kick stand to sit it up which I’ll probably use for capturing the sky and time lapses. The lenses has as extra outter edge for support and there’s 1 button on the back for recording and your usual buttons on the front. Also it doesn’t come with an SD card but I bought a little Samsung microsd card and it works good for all quality. The screen is small, but it’s a small camera and sometimes it can be hard to see what’s in the picture but I would say it’s like a point and shoot where you wouldn’t usually be staring into the screen for that perfect shot. That doesn’t impact my thoughts about it but just a warning if you’re comparing this against some bigger bulkier ones, this one does have some small user interface issues with the screen being so small and buttons so sometimes I misclick on stuff and it’s hard to see in the screen especially around bright lights like sun.I’m mainly excited for this camera so I don’t have to use my phone anymore, and it gives me an almost like-action camera but also perfect for everyday use. It’s an interesting camera and really unique, and at the end of the day it’s a Canon, it’s going to be solid for what it’s made for, and to me that’s a camera I can take out and have it already be ready to record. As my first Canon, I’m really happy with it and made me make my mind about using higher quality cameras maybe in the future!

𝘁𝗹;𝗱𝗿: Pretty good footage, decent environmentally-dependent mic, bad stabilization, weird quirks.┈╍┄┈┄╍─╍┄┈┄╍─╍┄┈┄╍─╍┄┈┄╍─╍┄┈┄╍┈𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:This is a weird one. The V10 is an oddity because Canon obviously cut some corners to keep costs low. While this is more inexpensive than its competitors like the ZV1F, it does lose the same amount of functionality to cost shaving:🎥 The form factor is smaller than its competitors. This camera is almost too small to hold comfortably, which is great for portability and a slight detraction to ergonomics.🎥 This size comes at a cost; the battery life is terrible. You don’t even get an hour of shooting time, so this is not for long continuous shoots. That wouldn’t be possible anyway because:🎥 This thing heats up and turns off when too hot, which means shooting it out in the sun kills it quickly.🎥 The V10 also has no onboard storage. Firmware is stored on the MicroSD, meaning if you need to hot-swap cards, you must have the firmware on every card. It’s peculiar.Yes, that seems like many cons, but even my $1000 ZV-1 has many similar issues and not much better solutions. This camera also has plenty going for it:🎥 This has micro HDMI, meaning you can use this as a webcam. This is where the rechargeable battery and 1/4”-20 shine. This thing is practically built to be used stationary when you’re home, and it’s awesome.🎥 Quality’s more than decent at the <$500 mark. Sure, it’s not the best AF or high ISO performance, but the footage is more natural and pleasing than footage shot on my nearly $1800 smartphone.🎥 Microphone audio’s great in quiet environments, although it’s still not going to beat out a lavalier in noisier ones.🎥 Image stabilization is… okay. I shot footage with it on and thought it was off, lol.So, it depends on your expectations. Yes, it shoots better footage than your phone, but not better pictures (it can’t even shoot RAW). Its mic is good, but you’ll probably still need extra accessories. This is a fantastic primary or secondary casual shooter if you typically film with your phone and want an upgrade without breaking the bank. 2 people found this helpful

    Good for the price

My main camera is a Sony Zv-1. This camera doesn’t compare, but this camera is also half the price. For the price, this is a great camera. The colors aren’t as crisp as the Sony, the sound isn’t as crystal clear – BUT it is totally serviceable and you can start making content super fast (after an update. I don’t know if everyone will need an update, by my camera did). The camera is a nice size and a good price point for those who want to get into content creation. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of a more expensive camera – but that’s probably for the better – the important thing is to just start making content, you can worry about other features way down the road when it’s time to upgrade.I found this camera for me works best when I’m using it on a tripod, vs on a stick and moving the camera. It also works great for streaming in low light (I used it to stream on twitch from a poorly lit hotel room and was impressed at the picture quality).

    Good Camera – Great Features

Cannon PowerShot V10 build quality is good. I liked it enough to get the SmallRig V10 cage kit with dead mice. I also purchased a tripod especially for it, which extends some. The build quality is good, picture quality is good. You can connect it to your Mobile phone, and interact with it. What I really like about it, is the feature where the camera follows and focuses on you. That makes the device worth it alone, I have a DJI Mobile 6 which does this with my cell phone. However, having this device do that stand alone is really nice. I look forward to using this in the field. A great mid-range Vlog camera.Note: You will have to be careful it you just lay this device down flat, everything on it kind of juts out. one side the lens is exposed and the other the monitor. You may wish to purchase some type of case or tripod for it.

Nice Camera for Quick Content Creation

I own a couple of camera and I am by no means an influencer, however, I do like a nice camera to take with me on the go at times, especially when I am at certain events or restaurants for that matter. I do a lot of reviews online, especially when it comes to food and when I saw this pop up in my feed, I decided to give it a try.For me personally and what I need to use it for it works great. I like that it is compact and I can take it everywhere with me. It’s much more reasonable versus carrying tons of camera equipment around with me which I have done in the past as well. If I am at a specific restaurant or event, I can whip this out take the raw video I need and then go home to edit it on Premier Pro. I feel the raw video gives me just enough content I need in order to make a great video by editing it with a good software. You can also upload your pictures and video to Canon’s cloud service and also go live within their app which is also a nice feature to have as well.

    Totally blew me away

This is a great little camera. All you do is point and shoot. I haven’t really been able to use it that much yet but when I did I used it as a video recorder for going to and from work.Love it.

Small little camera but I am not too thrilled

I pre-ordered this camera. It arrived on June 16th, the day after the launch. It is very small, compact, and very rugged camera. There are only a few buttons and few settings to tinker, which I like. However, I am not too thrilled with the video or the photo quality. As a Vlogger, one is expected to move quite a bit. The motion stabilization is poor. There is no zoom function for photos.Process of making use of your home WiFi to Canon Camera Connect app is convoluted. Basic setup lets you connect to camera acting as an Access Point, which is extremely slow. For $429, one should not expect a lot these days. With that said, I have decided to keep it.

    Could be better!

    1. I try many times, never able connect the camera to my phone.2. Screen too small, not able to see too much detail before I shoot.3. The people in the center look good. In the far left or right look strange. faces change.4. Can’t adjust like a regular camera. Other cameras about same price can make more adjustment.

If only you could usb power this camera…

Hey there – i am a YouTube Content Creator and have been looking for a new more modern reasonably priced camera to accompany my Canon XA20. I have been wanting to go to 4K and thought this device fits the bill and it’s a canon and has the same 1″ sensor (according to the docs) as it’s $2800 full fledged camera counterpart… Now here is the kicker for me – I do all of my videos in my recording studio. Typically my cameras never use their batteries as I am plugged in all the time… This camera HOWEVER not only does not plug in and work, it requires thes the use of a battery to record – or live stream or whatever it is doing… Even when downloading images, it seems to use the battery… The battery is not user replaceable and it mine only lasts like 20 minutes…I am told it takes 30 minutes to fully charge – however that has not been my experience… It really sucks because if I could just use this thing with an external USB power bank or powered off my PC it would be the perfect camera for me, unfortunately – that is not the case. I will have to return it and get something “better” – I put better in quoted because it seems the only way to get a true canon video camera experience is with a real video camera from canon – so more money, less convenience, and just general annoyance. HEY CANON IF YOU READ THIS FIX IT SO I CAN USE THIS WHILE CONNECTED TO USB POWER!!!! Maybe the PowerShot V10 MkII…So in a nutshell – don’t buy this unless you want to spend more time charging than making content…

Nice form w/ decentish visual, semi-middling audio, & an overly complex, unintuitive user experience

The Canon PowerShot V10 Vlog Camera is a decent enough camera that captures both video and still photo shots in addition to live streaming. The camera is relatively compact but larger than another popular action camera. It includes a nifty flip-out screen or you can also view live on your linked phone or other device. The built-in stand is useful, sturdy, and seems durable enough–bonus that you do not have to buy additional acccessories for this piece. Contents also include a strap to attach, but it is fairly thin and flimsy so doubt that I would trust it.Setting up the camera and linking it to a device was incredibly cumbersome and required more time and effort than anticipated when compared against my set-up of other devices, including popular action cameras. The camera’s interface and menu system are not particularly user friendly. Navigation through the settings and options is complex and not nearly as intuitive as other popular brand action cameras. It requires time to understand the basics, much less the various shooting modes and filters. Although there is a digital zoom, it is limited as more of a pre-set so that there is not much sensitivity if you want more control over it. The timer emits a loud annoying beep that pierces the eardrums; admittedly I am perhaps simply sensitive to the sound.Visual images are sharp and clear, more so for stills than video. Low-light capabilities, albeit decentish, are not the greatest. Audio quality could be *greatly* improved. Sound is not particularly crisp even when recording without any background noise for interference.Overall, I like the camera’s form and design, but its complex interface and unintuitive controls pose an unnecessary challenge when I can use another action camera more quickly. It does get easier with time after one has better familiarized themselve with everything, but it still seems an overly complicated nuisance. The Canon PowerShot is better suited for those occasions when you have ample time to set up and fiddle with the settings. Depending on your use case, add more time to get it to connect, which is sluggish and more frequently than not requires multiple attempts to pair successfully. Time will tell how frequently I actually use this, but I strongly suspect that I will stick w/ my other camera options for the most part.

3.75 stars: best for tween to adult.. beginner/novice video making!

At a higher price point I expect a lot from a camera and find this meets many beginner/novice standards including a few quirks! Designed with a vlogger in mind.. it’s not at all limited to this use- Camera is a solid to begin an online presence and equally can be an option to help capture video moments.. NOT every life memory needs to be filmed with an iphone!!The small, vertical build is easy to stand upright and sized for transport. Its robust exterior doesn’t feel too delicate or fragile.. Ideal when “on the go” or trusting in the hands of a teen- as either can be rough on an electronic device! Fits large pocket, purse, or backpack, etc. without adding excess weight or bulk.I find best feature comes in the ease and simplicity of it all. With only X5 buttons to learn/operate it’s not overwhelming or too intimidating. It’s ideal for grandparents who struggles with tech or, a beginner who doesn’t need the complex extras just yet! Sound is respectable with built-in mic. *I do suggest getting familiar with manual to understand basics and “how to” use with wifi and App connection. (I had college kiddos do this setup- bc, I was a bit confused only they had no problem!)Quirks: Zoom is not included feature (unless I’m failing at it?!) Video doesn’t support rapid movement as it creates “drag.” Neither of which I expected from Canon quality at $429. I do suggest if creating videos a for vlog purpose, to invest in additional lighting.. Depending on the room or time of day, the overall recorded picture appeared too dark to see detail.Has ability to meet needs if it’s matched with the appropriate user and what I suggest you consider prior to choosing. Hope info can be helpful.. stay safe everyone.

Looking for an easy to use Vlog camera?

Looking for an easy to use Vlog camera? We have been using the Canon PowerShot V10 Vlog Camera to vlog our new puppy. The tiny little camera works great documenting the puppy’s growth because it is so easy to use. The camera has a built-in stand so we can set it down and press the recording button. Super easy. The lens is wide angle and autofocusing so the pup is almost alway visible. The camera works well in low light conditions, so even our night time dog walks are captured. The V10 is a great camera for our non-professional Vlogging purposes.RecommendedPros:-Video: 4K Video that works well even in low light conditions-Fast Start-up: The camera comes up fast so we don’t miss many of those puppy moments.-Noise Reduction: Three microphones do a great job in reducing noise in our videos-Video/Stills: You can use the camera in Video or Still shot mode-Stabilization: Built-in image stabilization does a good job on our hand held videos. Additionally, the camera has a ¼ inch tripod stand mount.-Build-in Stand for quick close up videos-USB-C chargingCons:-The V10 doesn’t come with a lens cover. As an extremely portable device, I want to protect the lens.-Warmth: It does get warm during use.-Setup: Took longer than expected and needed a firmware update.

    Impressive for Its Size

The app works pretty well. I connected with Bluetooth & WiFi. It lost its connection and wouldn’t reconnect until I closed the app and started it again. I’ll probably just take the card out of the camera and put it in my laptop to transfer files for post production. That’s easier than using the app. I mainly use it for another recording camera, rather than livestreaming. But it does seem to livestream okay, too. As far as the camera itself, I’m impressed with the image stabilization. The auto-focus is a bit slower than some other cameras, but once it’s in focus, it’s sharp. I’m not using this for 4K, so I can’t comment on that. But for 1080, it works fine for me. I’m most impressed with its size. I’ve used small cameras, but this one is better quality than those others that are so small. It’s not as good as my larger cameras, and it’s not going to be my main camera, but it’s a good addition to my video presentation. For those who are looking for livestreaming, this camera seems to be especially designed for that. I’m not using it for that, but if that’s what you’re looking for, it should work well for you. It doesn’t come with a manual. You download that and then learn it has quite a number of features. For its size, it’s impressive.

    Very nice compact vlog camera

This is a nice small camera. It has a great lens and works nicely in low light. The device itself is so small you can fit it in a pocket like a cell phone. The battery life is good, and after a few hours of use, I found I still had plenty of juice left. This would make a great gift.

    Great Vlogging Camera

I’m actually super impressed with this camera! Its lightweight and easy to hold. The app is simple to use as well. The picture and sound quality are amazing! We’ve been using this camera for vlogging vacations, and it’s been so easy and fun! We used it walking around and, on a ride, and the picture came out clear and stable. It charges quickly too. I love how simple it is to use and how great the videos come out. I highly recommend!

Not bad but feel it’s a bit overpriced

The camera is super compact which makes it easy to take anywhere. The screen is small but is just enough for you to frame everything. Audio quality is decent, but an external mic (which can be added) is always going to be better. Battery life is good as well. I think it may be worth spending an extra 100 dollars and getting a higher end vlog camera but if the price was a bit lower it would be totally worth it.

Appears to be good for VLogging

I am new to using a camera such as this so I cannot go into deep detail on how it all works. The camera has a good solid feel when holding. It is fairly easy to get started filming once the SD card is inserted and the camera set-up. The film/picture quality and photo quality appears to be good. The audio seems to be acceptable as well. I am new at this so I really have nothing to compare this camera with but overall, I find it to be acceptable! I would definitely recommend this for early users/vloggers for its ease of use and quality build.

    Good, not great

The Canon PowerShot V10 marks Canon’s foray into the realm of vlogging cameras. It’s a compact and lightweight device equipped with features like a wide-angle lens, face-tracking autofocus, image stabilization, and the capability to record 4K video at up to 30fps (or 1080p video at up to 60fps).However, the challenge for the PowerShot V10 is to distinguish itself in a world where most aspiring vloggers already possess smartphones that offer similar attributes. Given that it’s still a notable investment, even as an entry-level product, it must demonstrate its superiority over a smartphone. Does it meet this challenge? Let’s delve into our findings after testing it for several days.Taking the PowerShot V10 out of its packaging left a strong initial impression. Its design is unusual yet clever, featuring a built-in kickstand that’s solid and convenient. This kickstand allows you to place the camera on a desk for to-camera pieces or as a webcam, adding versatility to its usage. The PowerShot V10 is highly portable, fitting comfortably in a trouser pocket, and it’s easy to handle with one hand. While it’s a bit bulkier than a smartphone, it’s notably more compact, making it an ideal on-the-go companion. It’s well-constructed, although not designed to be waterproof or rugged, it’s solid. However, the touchscreen is where the first drawback surfaces. Although it flips up 180 degrees to face forwards, backward, or anywhere in between, it’s relatively small at 2 inches. This size stands in stark contrast to the 3-inch displays commonly found on other cameras and the much larger screens of smartphones. As a result, you might struggle to see it clearly even at a short arm’s length, particularly in bright outdoor conditions, leading to issues like unfocused or poorly framed footage. In terms of controls, the layout is minimalist, featuring a single prominent record/shutter button on the front and several smaller buttons on the back for power and settings. The touchscreen provides numerous touch controls, and overall, operating the camera is a pleasant experience. However, the absence of a physical button for quick switching between still and video shooting is noticeable; the current method via the touchscreen is slower.Connectivity options are straightforward yet adequate. The PowerShot V10 offers 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 for wireless connections, and given its primary vlogging nature, these features are likely to be extensively used for transferring content to phones and social media. On the wired side, it boasts USB-C, which serves multiple functions including webcam streaming, charging, and data transfer. There’s also a micro HDMI port and a 3.5mm microphone input. A microSD card slot is essential, as there’s no built-in storage. For shooting 4K video, it’s advisable to use a fast microSD card (V30 or higher). For vloggers who often shoot while on the move, Canon has incorporated features tailored for this specific shooting style. The PowerShot V10 includes electronic image stabilization to counteract camera shake and an autofocus system that can recognize and track human faces. While these might seem like essential features, their performance is somewhat lacking. The stabilization works well for self-filming but becomes jerky when shooting ‘POV’ content while moving. Furthermore, at its most effective setting, it results in a significant crop of the frame, limiting your working space. The autofocus can be inconsistent, at times recognizing faces and at other times prioritizing the background, leaving the subject blurry.Despite not being flawless, these features do give the PowerShot V10 an edge over most smartphones in terms of serving the vlogging community. An added advantage is its ability to function effectively as a webcam. By connecting it to your computer via USB, you can easily use it for Zoom calls and Twitch streaming, making it a practical choice for remote work and content creators. The built-in rechargeable battery provides approximately an hour of continuous video recording. You also have the option to use the USB-C port for continuous power, which is beneficial for extended recording sessions. You can connect a high-capacity power bank or a similar power source for more extended shoots. With its 1-inch back-illuminated CMOS sensor, the PowerShot V10 holds a noticeable advantage in raw imaging capabilities compared to most smartphones. In ideal lighting conditions, both video and photos exhibit sharpness and richness. However, due to the lack of onboard lighting, careful consideration of when and where you film is necessary to maintain this quality.A built-in LED light could have been a valuable addition, as well as the ability to quickly shoot portrait content in 9:16 format without turning the camera 90 degrees. Considering the popularity of vlogging platforms like TikTok, this inclusion seems like a missed opportunity, hinting at a potential disconnect between Canon and its target audience. The wide-angle lens serves its purpose for selfies and vlogs, providing a broad field of view. However, it lacks versatility, making it less suitable for subjects beyond a meter or two. Smaller subjects tend to appear lost in the wide frame. Nevertheless, a built-in ND filter for outdoor filming in direct sunlight is a valuable feature. The dual top-mounted microphones perform reasonably well in most situations, particularly when capturing voices. They do suffer from wind noise when used outdoors, but the included fuzzy windshields help mitigate this issue, even though they aren’t as secure as some alternatives.

    Overpriced. Perfect for live-streaming.

(Item: Canon PowerShot V10 Vlog Camera for Content Creators, 19mm Wide-Angle Lens, 1″ CMOS Sensor, 4K Video, Face-Tracking, Built-in Microphone, Image Stabilization, Webcam, Live Streaming, Black)Simplicity is the key with this vlogging camera. But with simplicity comes sacrifice. There are point-and-shoot action cams/pocket cams from brands like GoPro, DJI and Insta360. Pricing for those starts at around $350. Benefits of those usually include smaller footprints, portability, digital or gimbal stabilization and (in some cases) extreme durability including water-resistance/waterproofing. Then, on the other end of the spectrum, there are prosumer vlogging cameras like the Sony ZV-1, Nikon Z 30 and Canon EOS R50. Pricing for those starts at around $650 and can go way up to over $2000 for some of the more professional models. Benefits of those usually include higher-end feature sets like picture profiles (Cine, S-Log, etc), interchangeable lens’, articulating screens, audio interface options, stabilization and higher shooting frame rates. This Canon V10 handpicks options from both of those categories of cameras. And in doing so, Canon created a decent vlogging camera almost in a category by itself.DESIGN & FEATURES:Design language is a little dated. More of a classic than updated look. They gave the camera a smaller footprint (it’s a little bigger than a pack of cigarettes). So between that and its rounded edges, it’s very pocketable. Like other action cams, it has a fixed lens. Highlights include stereo mics along with a mic input, a 1” CMOS sensor, built-in ND filters for overly bright days, an articulating screen, micro HDMI port, a USB-C port and a built-in stand (which I used a lot more than I thought I would). They also threw in a few extras like webcam support, fun filters (including Skin Smoothing) and 2 levels of image stabilization. Menu navigation is typical of Canon, Sony or Nikon cameras – it’s a bit confusing unless you’re already familiar with that brand. More like it was designed by an engineer rather than a consumer. The menu does support touch so, that was a nice plus.PROS:It powers up extremely quickly (one of the fastest startup times I’ve seen). So, you won’t miss much of whatever you’re filming. The built in mic does pick up much of the ambient sound. Something to keep in mind. But in general, the stereo mics are very good and the ability to add an external via the 3.5 jack is excellent. The articulating screen flips up (rather than to the side). So, it looks a bit more natural as your eyes are still centered to the lens when checking the screen. The built-in ND filters are a huge plus. Any serious photographer/videographer wouldn’t shoot without these to better control light. And though not marketed a lot, you can turn it sideways for vertical shooting. Perfect for uploads to TikTok/Instagram.CONS:There are some shortcomings. Even though it boasts a 1” sensor, overall video quality is just good rather than great. With perfect lighting, footage is great. But with anything less, it’s just ok. And while it shoots decently in low light, I would’ve definitely expected more from that size sensor. Plus, in a world where 4K@60 is the standard, this frame rate tops out at 4K@30. So not a lot of option for slow-mode shooting unless you drop to 1080p. Image stabilization (even on the highest setting) is just ok. Your iPhone is much better. And, no lens cap is included.OTHER MENTIONS:4K recording tops out at just about an hour. Just not continuous though as the camera will overheat before that (something common for almost all small cameras shooting at 4K). It’s not waterproof. But that should be expected as they had to sacrifice that to offer stereo mics. A fair tradeoff for much better audio. Photo format is JPEG only.PRICE:Ugh. Probably its biggest offense. While the features it offers are good, they’re not ‘$429 dollars’ good. If you’re able to pick it up on sale, $300-$350 would be spot-on for what this camera offers. I can only assume this camera is the starting point for this category for Canon – a platform to grow this line. And, that future iterations (Mark II, Mark III, etc) will kick in with 4K@60, better image stabilization, picture profiles, better low-light performance, etc. Because no other camera brand is directly in this space/category yet, bumping up the specs for future generations would do 2 things. It would define the camera as a better option to the lower-priced action cams. And at the same time, flirt with the higher quality specs of higher-priced vlogging cams. At which point its price would be justified.CONCLUSION:If you can objectively identify yourself as an amateur or beginner, you will enjoy this camera for what it is. If you’re a prosumer/professional, you’re likely to be disappointed with the offered feature set and may only end up using this as a backup to your backup camera. Having said that however, there is one exception. If you’re an amateur or professional and will be using this for web-camming or live-streaming, this camera is excellent. Positioned indoors with good lighting, you wouldn’t have to worry about stabilization. And the camera can be continuously powered via your laptop/computer. Plus, it’s plug-and-play. You don’t have to download any additional apps or software. Super simple and the footage is fantastic.Although this review might not reflect it at first glance, I really like this camera. But more so, I like the idea of this camera. I absolutely think it needs a design refresh and a better feature set. But the potential is there. I hope this is just the starting point for Canon.

quality is terrible definitely for new people vlogging, audio is ok but use an external source. Audio is more important than video. Know who they are targeting. If you can afford a little more i recommend sony zv-e10 or canon m50 instead.

    Perfect for 99% of people

No, this camera is not meant to compete with sony’s line of vlogging cameras. It is not meant for the 1% of people who *professionally* vlog or record video content for a living. Those comments are missing the point of this camera. This camera is meant for and perfect for the 99% of people who record with their phone or is new to vlogging/video recording. It is perfect for people who want to capture life’s moments without stressing over apertures and shutter speeds. It’s meant to be convenient. It’s designed to be welcoming and fun for the beginner which 99% of people are. The shape makes it easy to record horizontal videos compared to using two hands with a phone. The vertical shape takes away the need to carry a whole extra grip that is needed for other traditional shaped cameras. It does not have the HDR look of iphones and “action camera” look of GoPros that people dislike. It is perfect for parents who want to document family moments, people who want to record memories with their friends, the list goes on.I have many recording devices from iphones to sonys to gopros and insta360s, but whenever im in the moment and just want to record a memory – I gravitate towards the canon v10.

Wonderful camera, especially for actors who need to do self tapes!

I highly recommend this product, I’m an actor and I was looking to upgrade my setup from using an iPhone to an actual camera, bought this with low expectations (had cameras in the past that were not as good or better than what my iPhone could do), but I was pleasantly surprised — it’s a wonderful camera, with 4K capabilities, the sound is crisp and clear, which I was not expecting, you do not need a separate mic although it has a port for an external mic, the video quality is excellent. All in all a solid choice.

    Compact + Wide viewing

Loved the compact nature of the item. The lens was surprising quite wide and the videos taken definitely have that canon aesthetic but the camera itself would constantly overheat. This ranged anywhere from a few minutes to over 10 minutes. The camera didn’t even have to be recording either. Even though it’s marketed as a vlogging camera, the overheating is a serious problem.
