So far so good… **Update!** Now 1 star, please read.
This lens vignettes horribly at wide angle but you won’t see it if you shoot only jpegs because they are stretched, in camera, to cut out the vignetting! The raw file reveals the vignetting and how much you’re losing, effectively making this lens a lot less wide angle than 24mm – the vignetting doesn’t go away until somewhere around 32mm! Horrible design, Canon, shame on you! Back goes the lens…Original review: The image quality is really decent for a 10x zoom lens. Only pixel peepers might be disappointed. Super versatile. I am a professional with several kits, this one is perfect for my lightweight, all in one kit – RP and this are a great fit. I think this as good as can be accomplished for such a lens, given the physics. Very happy!

Great for every day
I have had this for two months now. It’s not perfect but you get a LOT of bang for you buck. I’ve mainly used this outside for taking pictures of my kids. I LOVE a prime… but prime and kids creates difficulties getting the shot for me. I took this picture of my kids green anole lizard through a very smudgy cage and it really did a superb job considering the conditions. That’s really sold me.This lens is a little heavy but much less heavy and much more accessible than multiple primes. It’s definitely going to be my travel lens and so so so perfect for snagging fast kids who don’t stay still!I have several bucket list lenses but this one will do GREAT until I’m able to get them. For the casual photographer who wants an above average multipurpose lens this is a winner. The simplicity is the best part.

Great 24-240mm RF Full Frame General Purpose/ Travel Lens
As noted by the more knowledgeable users’ reviews as to distortions, heavy vignetting, etc. must be viewing the RAW images. Yes one will see all those things because Canon “designed” the lens to be used with (DLO; Digital Lens Optimizer) to keep lens size and price down; e.g., compare RF 24-240mm to the older Canon 28-300mm lens’ size and price. If you want to read reviews on the RF 24-240mm by EXPERIENCED/ PRO users search for the Dustin Abbott “Canon RF 24-240mm F4-6.3 IS Review”, and the Scott Kelby “Field Report: The New Canon 24-240mm RF-Mount Lens for Mirrorless” reviews. Been using the RF 24-200mm on my EOS R camera and have been very satisfied with the quality of the images. BTW it’s ludicrous to be comparing a 10X zoom image quality to single focal length (prime) lenses or Canon EF “L” lenses. I’ve 24mm attached a out-of- camera shot; no extreme vignetting in corners.

If you have never used a Canon “L” lens, you will probably think this is a good lens
This lens has a very wide range going from 24-240mm using a full frame “R” series Canon Camera. If all you are shooting is static or slow moving subjects, or using it as a “walk around” lens it is probably acceptable.I took my lens out attached to an R5 and was very disappointed. The face recognition and Tracking capability of the R5 is one of the big pluses of the R5. I was disappointed in the ability to track moving subjects or find and focus on animal faces using this kit. Focus lock was very poor.I know the R5 with an Adapted EF-70-200 III L lens can handle it. I know this is not an “L” lens however it is a native “R” series lens.Frankly, I was very disappointed with the lens.IMHO, too many sacrifices are made for the sake of convenience. The reviews I have seen show static subjects. One suggested it would be good for taking pictures of your kids soccer game, frankly I don’t agree. There are better EF lens options, even if you have to adapt the lens, such as the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM Lens currently on Amazon for 519.95 renewed or 599.00 new. IMHO, this lens is the Canon Sleeper zoom lens.

Very clear and versatile lens when in camera corrections used
I bought it to have one lens to carry around that will go wide or long. The shots I am getting with my R5 are surprisingly clear and detailed. Attached are three shots converted from the raw files as they came out of the camera. No sharpening or other adjustments applied. The day time telephoto shot was hand held at 240 mm wide open at f6.3. The IS works great. The night shot was a 4 second exposure on a tripod again at 240 mm at f6.3. For comparison the last shot is at 24 mm from the same position as the others. I have not seen the distortion and vignetting mentioned by others. As these images show, the R5, at least, does a good job of correcting those conditions and you never see them. As it is, these shots are about as good as I could get from even L lenses in the past. They are about as good as the new RF L lenses but this lens works fine if you are not shooting possible exhibition shots or want strong depth-of-field effects. The only drawback I have noticed is the small apertures at the telephoto end but that is unavoidable to keep the size down. Overall, highly recommended.

Great Lens! Update your camera!
Ok first, unlike the other review here (at this time), you NEED to update the firmware on your camera (EOS R/RP) via Canon’s website otherwise you’ll get an error. Once the firmware updates you’ll be up and running to use this lens!Great focal range and pretty much the ideal travel lens. It’s bigger then the 24-105 RF lens tho and isn’t an L lens. I’ll be curious to see the value of this on the used market in the future. Overall pics are sharp, great IS for video and photos but sucks it isn’t a 5.6 aperture on the long end. It’s also only F4 for like maybe 15mm before going to F5.0.I’d say this is only for travel or family photos. I wouldn’t use this professionally because there’s just better options ether RF or EF to use depending on your photography.

Excels as walkaround jpeg lens
You have to promise yourself two things right off the bat: 1) this will be my walk-around lens, and 2) I will not shoot raw with it. If you can easily work with those assumptions, this is a magnificent lens for you.Its competition is a handful of APS-C 18-200 jack-of-all-trades lenses. Unlike its competitors, RF 24-240 is incredibly sharp and about a stop faster across most of the range. The IS works well. f/4 @ 24mm is nice to have and allows this lens to be used effectively indoors. It sets a new standard for do-it-all lenses by a long shot. There isn’t a single lens on this market that comes close to this range, size and image quality in one package. One major drawback is its size. It’s on the larger side and weighs down on your if carrying around all day. But, you’re also not carrying around extra gear!

A great vacation zoom 🙂
I really like this zoom on my R, its great. The lake is Crater Lake, the Lyon from Wildlife Safari. Crater Lake was at 24mm and the Lyon was at 240mm. I compared it to the RF 24-105 f4 L and the EF 70-200 f4 L IS.At 50′ and 200mm the 70-200 was a bit sharper, as expected but at 70mm I could not tell the difference. Comparing the 24-240 to RF 24-105 at 8′ the 24-240 was a hair sharper at 100mm. Its not small and lite and it does zoom creep when pointed down on a belt clip.

dark corners are intentional and OK!!! Let me explain
Just wanted to add that on this lens and the 16mm canon is doing an interesting thing and confusing people by not explaining it. Pretty typical of canon/nikon marketing… Both lenses are actually wider than marked with the intention of always using lens profile correction. after correction the lenses then become a 16mm and a 24mm respectively. In the day of powerful processors this is actually smart approach, but a new and confusing one. Even in raw this works if Lightroom has the proper profiles.

Decent enough, with some issues
Decent enough lens. It’s slow, as all superzooms are, but you can work around this. Sharpness is good, range is excellent. Spoiled by the “control ring”. A stupidly placed ring around the lens supposedly so you can adjust your camera settings instead of using a button. On some cameras it also acts as a focus, which would actually be a bonus, but on the RP it’s so fiddly no-one does. Instead, you’re constantly twisting this very conveniently placed, but useless dial, instead of the incredibly inconveniently placed zoom ring.I use the lens for its convenience when travelling, but much prefer the EF 24-70 and 70-200mm combo for shooting where quality matters over convenience.

Wonderful multi purpose lens
This is a wonderful lens. It solves having to buy too many other lenses for the new R series. If you use this and then the 100 – 500 mm Telephoto Zoom you have much of the sizes of the pictures you’ll want to take. Only drawback is very low light won’t work and you’ll need to find something for that.

Met expectations
A very useful and convenient general purpose lens – avoids the need to deal with multiple lenses for the EOS R series cameras. Some reviewers complain that this lens has excessive vignetting at 24mm wide angle in RAW. This lens was certainly designed to use post-processing software lens correction. With this in mind, Canon was able to provide an extremely versatile lens at a fairly reasonable price. Of course, it’s not an L lens but I’ve found its sharpness to be much better than acceptable and its image quality very good when used with the lens corrections function in Lightroom. It compares favorably with my other high quality lenses.

Great accessory
This is a great accessory for an EOS mirrorless camera. It brings much more focus and clarity to my photographs. I have a longer field of depth range than I do with the lens that came with the camera. Easy to handle. Thank you!

To me, the zoom ring is too stiff
I only used it once and that was for a live music performance. I had been using the wonderful EF 18-135 on my 90D with the power zoom attachment which is wonderful. BUT I decided to switch to two RF bodies (R6’s) and try pulling zoom manually with one of those rubber band attached handles and that did NOT work out too well! The darned zoom ring is SO tight that there was no way to make a smooth zoom pull. I think the whole RF line is great for stills but for video we are simply not there yet. If you are just shooting stills, this should serve you well but that darned zoom ring is WAY too stiff. I would much prefer something easier to turn that this one. IQ seemed to be OK on the one day that I tried it before returning the lens. Way, way, way too stiff IMHO. Happy shooting out there!

Better than hoped for.
This is my 3rd Rf lens so far. Price was excellent and I was hoping the 240 end would be worth switching from 24-105 L that has been used for 85% of my images.Excellent walk-around lens. On first use I noticed the difference in sharpness (usually used a 24-105 L ) and the range is excellent. Able to get close to some wildlife. Stabilization is very good. Weight is Ok.

Excellent all-around lens!
This lens covers from wide (24mm) to tele (240mm) with excellent sharpness and color rendition. I know some reviewers have commented on vignetting at wide angles. This should be expected with a lens barrel as long as it needs to be for the 240mm end of the scale, but it is not as bad as they say. If you import into Lightroom, for example, and apply the standard Adobe lens correction for the lens, the vignetting almost disappears, and without losing much of the frame – due to the correction being applied for wide angle distortion. Is this a “real” 24 mm wide angle lens? Of course not! It is really good, but if you need edge-to-edge sharpness without vignetting, you’ll need a serious wide-angle prime or zoom lens. There aren’t many available for the RF mount at this time, and most will set you back a lot more than this lens costs. For what it is, a not-inexpensive zoom that covers the full range well, it is a great lens. It is not everything for every purpose. I still give it 5 stars, as I think it is an excellent buy for most enthusiasts. A pro would naturally want to add other lenses depending on needs, such as a true wide angle, a portrait lens, and/or a serious super-telephoto.

Stellar lens for all but (maybe?) the pros
Long story short: If you’re the kind of person who just doesn’t want to miss a shot and will use the camera’s JPG 90% or more of the time, this lens is an absolute joy. The versatility is marvelous, the quality is fantastic, and you will capture so many moments perfectly that might otherwise simply be missed. I picked this up in lieu of a more traditional 24-105mm lens, so despite my primes and more dark/bokeh-oriented 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, this is often my daily walkaround choice with the 35mm f/1.8 in my pocket for darker scenes. And the pictures speak for themselves; it captures nearly every moment beautifully. Highly, highly recommended!

I LOVE this lens!!
For what it’s worth, I dropped my EOS R camera on a concrete floor a couple of weeks ago. (That will teach me to not carry the camera mounted on the tripod.) Luckily, the camera itself suffered no damage, but my 24-105 kit lens stopped working on manual focus, the stabilizer no longer worked, and it didn’t fit on the camera as tight as it should. I’m retired and live on SS so these multi thousand dollar RF lenses are out of my reach. I saw the Canon 24-240 RF lens for $699. That would stretch my budget to the breaking point, but doable. I spent hours on Utube studying the lens, and was mixed in my feelings between the nay sayers complaining about the lens and sending it back, VS others saying it made a good all round lens. I finally bit the bullet and bought it. I couldn’t be happier. The range is insane, and I couldn’t ask for better quality in the images. Not only that, it’s pretty light weight, and not bulky on my camera at all.

What the fringe?! This should not be an issue at $900.
I was looking for a good all in one lens which this certainly fit the purpose. Except the image quality was quite disappointing for a $900 lens. On average the images were sharp in the center. Many people mentioned having issues with barrel vignetting when zoomed out to 24mm with RAW files. I did not have that issue. They must have placed a lens hood on it?My biggest issue was around the outer edges of the shot. In high contrast areas, the amount of purple fringing was alarming. Something I typically experienced with cheaper lens. I double checked my camera settings and default aberration settings and lens distortion corrections but to no avail, nothing resolved the horrid image quality. Needless to say, I can not recommend this lens for architectural exterior or interior shooting where lights and high contrast areas are common. Fringing almost always shots up along the edges and even LightRoom could not easily remove them. I am in search of a new solution to meet the all-in-one needs beyond my faithful Canon RF 24-105 f4 lens.

A good lens with a bad flaw
Needed a walk around lens for my R6. I was overall very pleased with this one as it was reasonably sharp, provided a good bit of focal range, and reasonably fast focusing. You cannot ignore the RAW image vignetting on the corners at its widest though. As I was using it touristy and not for work I just switched to JPEG and it was fine but I hated not getting the full images I would have with RAW. At a cost point near $900 Canon should do better

Excellent FV lense
First three shots with the lense. I wish it was weather sealed and went to 300 or more mm, but it is a big improvement over the 24 – 105mm lense. It works well with the Canon R5, but that’s to be expected.

Ok for when you can’t bring real glass.
Bought this for a vacation lens. Just couldn’t bring the good glass. It works good for snapshots of people and stuff like that. Great Single-lens Solution
I have the Cannon EOS RP with firmware v1.2 and this lens works very well. The focus is almost instant and silent, and the zoom range just what you need for the single lens, use anytime solution. Of course it would be nice if it was optically faster, had weather seals, and was smaller (it was a bit larger than I had expected), but the laws of physics and economics have to apply, and for a day-to-day carry all the time system this lens and the RP are just about perfect for me.

A wonderful lens, but…
I purchased this lens especially to take advantage of the EOS R’s multiple exposure settings. Inexplicably, this lens does not support multiple exposure. This is really odd given that the lens is a brand new RF lens for an R camera. This is a real issue for ME photographers, and is not widely advertised by Canon. My workaround has been to use the EF-to-R adaptor and a Tamron 24-300mm lens. It’s a shame because other than this issue, the Canon RF 24-240mm lens is really quite nice. I’ve actually had to settle for a piece of glass that probably isn’t technically as good.

Don’t buy if you don’t have lightroom.
Fantastic lens for it’s convenience, but don’t buy this if you don’t have lightroom. I can spend an entire day at the park without having to change my lense I can go from taking wide angle landscape photos to capturing a bird in a tree with ease. That being said this lense has some hilariously bad vignetting and chromatic aberration, possibly the worst I have ever seen since I started shooting. This lense should come with a lightroom subscription…. Or at least a lens hood…

Great travel lens
This is a great travel lens! It was the only lens I look on a recent international trip, and it didn’t let me down. I was able to get shots I would have missed if I’d had to stop and change lenses. It’s not always my first choice near home but great for a walk-around lens.

Vignetting & cutting corners
I am devastated. This lens seemed to be perfect for me because of its versatility, especially while travelling. The first time I do a photo shoot I find out that the corners on many RAW files are cut out. To crop them out means losing a significant amount of photo. I returned it after 1 day! There is no excuse for this flaw. This lens was one of the main reasons I opted for Canon. I wish I had chosen Nikon.

The lens itself is very good as a travel lens, and I feel it would not show vignetting on a cropped sensor, but since there are no cropped sensor cameras with the RF mount, this would not be possible. I used this lens on a Canon RP and the sharpness is very good, it allowed me to take good pictures of the blue angels. But as you can see in the pictures (not edited) the vignetting is very pronounced at 24mm. At 240mm is not as pronounced but against a light background is noticeable. returning this one and keeping my EF 24-105mm f.4.

Great versatile lens.
An all purpose lens that will give you close-up shots, landscape, family and distant photos that are very sharp.

Dark corners in 24 mm range
With my Canon EOS R camera this lens does not fill the sensor in 24mm. The corners are dark. Not that bad but I have to crop the pic to publish. Anything above 24 mm is good.

Wonderful all-purpose lens!
For the price, this is an extraordinary lens. Solid build and super crisp images across an extremely wide range of focus lengths. Some have critiqued the vignetting (dark corners) at the wide-angle part of the lens (24mm). Yes, you will notice this with the raw files. The camera compensates by cropping the image slightly with the JPEG files–which you can also do with the raw files to eliminate the vignetting (Canon’s DPP 4 software also does this automatically to raw files). So yes, you’re getting a little narrower than 24mm. Overall, this is a small compromise to get an extremely versatile 10x superzoom.

Ignore the negative comments here – this is a great lens
Excellent for a single, walkabout lens. Ignore the comments here that say the vignetting / distortion means you have to crop. The camera automatically corrects for distortion / vignetting in jpegs, and if you shoot RAW then all of the raw processing programs have lens correction profiles. I was concerned as to whether this correction lost some of the wide field of view at 24mm but a series of tests showed that even after distortion correction it was still wider than my Canon EF 24mm prime lens. Do make sure your camera has the latest firmware updates.

Excellent All-In-One Travel Lens
Install the latest firmware upgrade in the Canon EOS RP, and you will have in-body lens corrections for the 24-240mm lens. Learn how to use this lens and how to do photography and you won’t be disappointed. Fine lens.

Great General purpose Vacation and travel lense for Canon R-series
I have this lens and a Tamron 150-600 big heavy zoom for closeups but on two recent long trips to national parks out west I found I pretty much only used this 24-240 mm lens which when paired with the R6 gets great results on scenery and wildlife that is reasonable near especially large creatures and or birds and squirrels etc that you can approach relatively closely so I was pleasantly surprised by this lenses sharpness and brightness although I was an early buyer so the price dropped by like 100 bucks after I bought so it is an even better deal now.

Great lens.
Great lens on a Canon RP. Seems made for it. Sharp images. Very convenient range. Used 24-105 L and 70-200 L on Canon 5D II professionally. Now have the little RP with this lens and perfect replacement. Same quality using photoshop and Lightroom. Casual bring into iPhone and use Snapseed App. More versatile. Little front heavy. But with a SmallRig cage on RP just about perfect. After hauling around big cameras with multiple lenses this combo just right for getting job done.Shot a few photos with the lens now. And perhaps this happened to be a real good one. Photos are just exquisite. Find don’t have to color shift at all. Very little post processing. Rather amazing.

A perfect walk around lens for EOS R owners.
Because I just bought a Canon EOS RP, I was considering between the RF 24 – 105 lens(but the redline one) and this 24 – 240. I knew that 24 – 105 is more expensive and it’s a redline lens. We all know Canon’s redline lenses are great. But I thought that I can’t shoot objects from a little farther away, so I chose the 24 – 240 one. I’ve used it for traveling, and it worked absolutely great. You can shoot almost everything in your daily use. And the image quality was great too and it surprised me. At last, if you are a Canon’s mirrorless camera’s owner and you want a lens that’s for walk around every day, this is the perfect one you should choose!

Best travelling lens
This is the best travelling lens in my opinion. The range it provides is good enough for travel photography and the sharpness is produces is excellent.
