Wonderfully Fast
Seems plenty durable, not that it’s moved from my desk. But it is wonderfully fast and a cost effective extension to my desktop’s storage capacity. Handles 4k raw footage just fine.

High reliability and performance at a good price.
This type of external SSD (1TB here) is used for portable project file backup and transfer between computers.Factors for why I selected the Samsung T9 Pro:* Physically robust construction. Very protective shock shell around the main drive body for absorbing drops,* Thermally robust operation- good internal heat sinking, to safely support high speed USB3 file transfers on USBC- some other brands of SSD, like the standard SanDisk drives I have bought through Amazon have literally burned out transferring large blocks of files. The Samsung Thermal guard works in action as claimed, in my experience with high speed connections and large data sets.* The speed claims seem quite real; this is the fastest external drive I have tested. It’s used mainly on a Mac Studio Max computer.

It’s small and fast
Got this to make around 1TB of data available from my old iMac on my new MacBook pro but didn’t want to fill up my new HD. I wanted something that I could use to move stuff, back it up, and also just use the portable HD directly and not have to worry about transferring stuff unless I wanted to. This HD is perfect. I was able to transfer about 1.2TB of data over from a ten year old iMac that only has USB-B support in less than 90 min. Now I just plug it in with USB-C to my new MacBook Pro and can use it like a normal HD and it’s super fast just like the localdisk.

Small and powerful drive.
Use mine as an external drive to store photos for my Adobe light room. Small and fast for up and downloading. Drive is protected by a hard rubber coating and makes the drive easy to grip. This is the best external drive I have ever used and I have many for my photo work!

So far it’s been reliable and has decent speed
As a photographer, I can’t seem to have enough large capacity SSDs. I bought this when it was on sale and because the brand has proven to be reliable to me. It doesn’t seems to be quite as fast as advertised but it does the job for me. The rubber coating is good in case not gets dropped, but it is a dust a dog hair magnet.

Super-Fast & Compact
Very happy with this 4TB drive – supper fast, armored and smaller than a deck of cards. My Seagate One Touch 5TB drive ran out of capacity and it was a good drive but took “forever” (many hours) to back up my 250GB of data. I have a 2TB Samsung Touch T7 with fingerprint security that is more than 5 times faster at 1050MBS using my TBolt 4 Dell XPS 13 and the supplied TBolt 4 cable (also very happy with the T7 Touch).I decided to pay more than double the Seagate price for the 4TB Samsung T9 with advertised speeds of 2,000MBS. I didn’t expect to actually gain any speed over the T7 because reviews I have read suggest more than 1,000MBS is problematic even with end-to-end TB4 hardware. However, this drive is notably faster, probably at least 50% if not more. Very happy I am not wasting more than half a day to do backups anymore. I reformatted the drive from eFat to NTFS prior to using it. I wish they made a touch version of this drive also to provide more security – I keep this one locked in a safe.

Great Little SSD Very impressed with this drive. Very fast for starters. password support, quick response, window’s 11 recognized it instantly. Absolutely no issues. Recommend this drive for sure. Got it for the same price as the T7 drive at1TB. So it was a no brainer for me. Hope this helps someone.

Love these external SSD’s
I owned the T-7 with fingerprint recognition confirmation & I filled it full of my photography & moon/astronomy video shots, Also numerous pics of my daughter’s piano recitals & her memorable moments & so I decided to get another since the previous worked so well with my laptop but exceptionally well with my phone as well. I’ve noticed the same with this new one even only owning this new one a few weeks but I can notice the speed & number of pics/vids are exceptionally faster.

Works well. Fast.
I had done a fair bit of research on external HDs and this is my new go-to external hard drive and I’m enjoying how fast it is.Of course the 4 TB of space is nice too.The only issue I have is it’s price. I wish it could have been less expensive. But value wise, I would highly recommend it after two months of use.

Definitely a step up from the T7s
I have T5s, T7s and now T9s. The T9’s running in the same Dell XPS 17 ports and significantly faster than the T7s they replaced. I was really after the 4TB of space in the T9, but I got a nice improvement in speed. I have not clocked it to get precise, but jobs run about a third faster when accessing the T9s. I regret that my T7s will get effectively retired now that the T9s are in their same ports but give twice the space and faster access, it was a good upgrade.

Incredibly Fast Hard Drive | Using It For Music Composition w/FL Studio
This is best hard drive I have ever owned and I wasn’t expecting it to be this fast. I mean, blazing fast! You will be very pleased if you decide to get it. I purchased the 4TB drive and it is a little over half full. I’m not sure if capacity matters as much with SSD drives as it does with mechanical drives. I doubt that it does. ~Timothy G. Slazyk

Fast and reliable..
I’ve been using this as a local backup drive direct connected to Thunderbolt 4.. It’s able to keep up with my new i9 laptop with no problem..I’m getting SUSTAINED write performance on this drive, around 700Megabytes per second. Out of the gate it’ll burst a bit higher, but usually levels out to 699 or 700MBps..Plenty fast and no issues yet.

This drive performs better than an internal SATA drive
Samsung products work as advertised period. I am very happy with the performance and size of this drive. I am fortunate to have a native USB-C 3.2 2X2 port on motherboard. I see the full performance of the drive. To show how this drive compares I have included benchmarks from an internal SATA SSD and a Samsung external USB 3.1 thumb drive.

More shock proof. Faster.
For the standard person, the fastness will not matter. You won’t really see it untill you have something that needs it. Most people don’t. The rubber outing protects it more from fall damage than the non rubber ones.Overall, I love it. Hooked it up to 2 pcs, and worked fine. Video worked fine. Hooked it up to a Steamdeck and gaming worked fine.

Fast, Reliable, Durable, but visually labeling the drives is a challenge.
This is a must-have for anyone wanting fast backups or photographers/videographers who want capacity + speed + reliability + durability! The textured surface and rubberized exterior ensure an iron-clad defense against drops and shocks. The only downside? The tactile finish that safeguards the drive makes labeling very tricky.Professionals that have several of these will have an unexpected challenge. Samsung or someone needs to offer an easy labeling solution for these otherwise amazing drives.

Samsung T9 4TB external SSD was disconnecting – now fixed!
Update (12/15): I read more reviews of about the disconnecting Samsung T7 drives and learned that Sleep (under Power settings) was set to 1 minute. So the drive was continually going to sleep. I turned that off and now the drive works fine. Very fast on a Thunderbolt connection. Am changing my rating and now recommending the drive. I also downloaded the new Samsung Magician software from the Samsung website and will see how that works. It monitors all of my Samsung drives.I bought two of these new T9 SSD 4 TB drives, planning to move all my files from my old WD external drives to these new smaller, faster ones. They use a USB-C connection. Regardless of whether I attach the drive to a USB-C port on my Caldigit docking station or directly to the USB-C port on my Dell XPS13 laptop, the new Samsung drive turns off after a minute or two. I have disabled SLEEP for the drive (as recommended in the chat forum on the Samsung website) but didn’t help. The little blue light that says the drive is working turns off right away and any file transfers just get frozen. The Samsung T7 SSD external drive apparently has the same problem. Looking for a solution or will have to return both of these drives.

Fantastic purchase
I have multiple 4K video files of drone racing footage, which take a lot of space on my laptop hard drive, and take a long time to transfer to USB drives. I was looking for a better solution. I own a 1TB T5, which is great but is limited in size. I also own a 2TB T7, which has been a major disappointment as you cannot transfer large amount of data to it (eg backup of a full hard drive) because of overheating issues. You can only transfer small amounts of data at a time. I never use it. The 4TB T9 was more expensive than either 1TB T5 and 2TB T7 because of the larger size and novelty. And I feared that it would have the same shortcomings as the T7. It did not. I can backup the full content of my laptop hard drive without any overheating issues, in just a few minutes. And transferring smaller files is a breeze. And 4TB is more than I will ever need for my needs, so I do not have to worry about this SSD becoming full anytime soon. So although I hesitated with the purchase initially and was ready to return it if it behaved like the T7, it ended up being one of the best computer equipment purchases I have ever made.

Not Faster On Mac – Just More Expensive
Macs do not have the ability to take full advantage of this drive – Macs don’t support USB 3.2 Gen 2 2×2. And, it only copies faster for extremely large files. The largest file on my and likely your computer is ~8 GB or smaller. At these sizes even if your computer does support USB 3.2 Gen 2 2×2, you won’t see a speed improvement. Also, with older Macs like the 2015 Retina, the EVO line is just as fast. All external Samsung SSDs run at around 350 MB/s read/write or slower if they’re getting full. The smaller size and durability of the Samsung T7 drives make them a great choice. Skip the T9 if you have a Mac – even an M2, because you won’t see faster speeds than T7, you just pay more for T9.I just did a write test for 4TB T9, T7, and Evo drives on an 8.58 GB file (my largest file). Time to copy for the drives were 20 sec., 20 sec., and 25 seconds. T9 and T7 wrote at the same speed, Evo was a little slower. Black Magic Disk Speed Test indicates that the T9 is a little slower than the T7 – why pay more for less speed?

Amazing piece of technology!
I purchased this to connect it to my Synology NAS to run Roon. They highly recommended it be run on an SSD instead of a HDD so I caved and bought it. I could have gotten something half or a quarter the capacity for a lot less and it would have worked fine, but this was a quick no-brainer.My only complaint is with Amazon and their shipping practice. They shipped this via USPS with simply a shipping label stuck to the box this device came in!!! NO anonymity or security whatsoever!! Somebody along the line could have simply grabbed this for their own use and nobody would be wiser.Thankfully the box DID arrive and it was easy to unpack. It came with two USB-C cables – one with a USB-A connector on one end, and one with a USB-C connector on the other end. A nice touch!I plugged the drive into the NAS, it found it and reformatted it in a matter of a couple seconds. My 20 TB HDD took roughly 18 hours to format in comparison! Everything is working well a day into it and I have hopes for much more enjoyment in the future! In fact, I’m eyeing that 4TB version for my portable music library so that I don’t have to worry about the 5TB HDD I’m currently using getting all beat up with file errors…Prices have sure come down since I started looking at these and I’m sure, it will keep falling as capacities keep increasing!

Consider carefully how you connect it
great drive, never an issue with Samsung, but unless you have USB4/Thunderbolt, it isn’t any faster than the T7, which I also have. You could save yourself a few dollars if that one works for you. Either way, I am a fan of Samsung’s SSDs. I have had nothing but good results with them over te years.

High capacity Samsung SSDs are expensive, but I caught a nice sale, about the same price per TB as the 2TB. If you can find it at this price go for it. It’s lightning fast. I also have two 2TB versions, a T5 and a T7.No pictures, but mine looks just like the ad copy.

Very fast
I have the SanDisk 2TB Extreme Pro, which is comparably priced. This is over 3x faster transferring files.Side note: If you use Adobe Lightroom with your Catalog on an HDD, it’s a complete game-changer to move it to this or a similar SSD. Previews load instantly rather than with a significant delay or not loading at all.

Made my backups three times faster
I used to use a WD Easystore 5TB for my backups and after testing it with one of my internal 3,300 MB/s M.2 SSDs I found out that my backup software can go even faster. So I decided to buy the 4TB since there’s an awesome 44% discount at the time that I bought this. I did a full 1.2TB backup with this and instead of taking 3 hours and 20 minutes it took 1 hour and 20 minutes and it’s not even plugged into the USB3.2 Gen 2×2 20Gbps, just a regular USB3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps. And yeah the backup only uses 40-50% of its speed unlike my WD Easystore which was using 98-100% of its transfer speed. It also doesn’t run hot at all and stays pretty cool. I also love how much storage it has for such a small form factor, especially when compared to the bigger and heavier WD easy store. Even though it’s lighter you can feel how well built it is. I also love that it has a rubber coating which feels really nice and keeps the drive in place really well and it also gives really good grip. And finally it’s amazing how much space it has for current day SSDs. Now I got another one for non backup purposes and will soon test it out on USB3.2 Gen 2×2 20Gbps.Edit: Tested it and it transferred my larger video files at almost 2GB/s, although it drops way below 500MB/s per second when transferring a bunch of smaller files.

Just started taking a bunch of photos and wanted to get an external SSD. Based on many rave reviews, I bought this drive at a good discount during Black Friday Sale.I am impressed by the speed. I just use the cable that came with the drive. My files are pretty large (80+mb) but the transfer from a fast SD cart to this drive via my MBP M3 is super smooth.T7 might be good enough for my use. And I do not use Samsung’s software.

Could be a 5 star, but…
In early testing this drive performs well just as the T5 & T7s have in the past. The T9 is faster than previous drives. Happy to see replacement for the T7 shield since that was the first 4tb model I had multiple failures. The 4tb T9 is a great improvement. So far the only downside is that I use many of them as back ups and you can’t label them (no labels stick to the silicone outer shell) and you can’t write (permanent marker) on them or use paint to mark them individually.

Ok. So the speed diff won’t show until you deal w large files. Also if your machine isn’t a usbc the latest spec then you won’t see the speeds. But it’s still fast, especially with larger files. Time Machine is like a jet now where it used to be a bicycle. The t7 is almost as good, but the 9 shines with big files.
