    Fit my Nikon D3300 perfectly

Fit, focus, sharpness all fantastic. Do not underestimate the weight of this lens, I did and after two sports games my wrist was hurting from holding up this thing. Immediately ordered a stick to rest the camera on. Other than weight I am extremely impressed with this lens and the quality.

So far a great lens. Will update.

Just got this lens today, will provide updates. So far, it is an awesome lens. Great build quality. I took it outside and got some nice bird pictures with it. I previously had a Sigma 400mm f5.6 lens but I upgraded to an M6 II which didn’t support that old lens so I had to switch lenses. I decided on this rather than the Canon 400mm f5.6l because from what I have seen online it is roughly the same IQ but with more reach and image stabilization. I can add a 1.4x teleconverter to the lens and not notice any degradation in autofocus on my M6 II. On my T3i adding a teleconverter made the autofocus almost unusable. So I have a 1250’ish mm lens for only $833. My sigma was used on my old T3i, if I crop 640mm to 1250mm I get a roughly 4.7 megapixel image but this lens on an M6 II with a teleconverter I get a 32.3 megapixel image at 1250mm. That is roughly 7 times more resolution. I haven’t done a side by side comparison yet, but it should be a notable difference. This lens is definitely heavier than the Sigma 400mm (which is about the same weight as the Canon 400mm f5.6l), so a monopod would make things easier. I might get that but it is not essential. The autofocus at 600mm with a teleconverter is definitely not as fast as the Sigma 400mm without one. I don’t have the dock yet so I’ll do more experimenting and update this sometime in the future. I don’t need to calibrate my lens to my camera cause I have a mirrorless camera, which is awesome. More to come.

    This lens is AWESOME!!!

My first true Wildlife Lens.Got a good deal, works better for me on 7D/7D Mark II than something like a T8i (balances better). It can be hand held. I’m not a young man, or a particularly big man, but I can manage it (it does cause some fatigue after a while).Weather has been horrid up my way. Will try to upload some additional pictures when I can get out of my driveway.IQ is terrific strait out of camera. I’m using on APS-C bodies so I get a maximum of 960mm effective reach.I’ve seen best results stopped down to F8/F9.I’ve not needed to do an “voodoo” with the USB Dock or anything like that.I’m working with a sample size of one, but for me, so far…this lens is AWESOME!!!

    Not good enough….

I bought this for my canon 80D, for more reach than I had with my 70-300L for wildlife. Inside my home I set it up on tripod and pixel peeped compared to the canon lens and found that only at 600mm did I get a bit more clarity than I did at 300mm with the canon when I zoomed in on the computer at images that were 15 ft away. Even on my heavy Benro tripod I found the weight of the lens super sensative to even a tap on the floor with my toe and very hard to manually focus because the slightest touch, in live view, caused the image to vibrate all over. In the field I found the only advantage would be if I had the setup on the tripod and the time to carefully zoom in and focus on a distant animal. But hand-holding for flying birds and such was of no advantage. Rarely would I get a clear image. The image quality was very good. Occasionally the auto focus would not work at all….I assume because it was so far out of focus it would, freeze up. But it acted like it was not even trying–just frozen. I would have to either find something else to autofocus on or manually focus to get it out of its lock up. Occasionally. Other than that the focus, most of the time, work well. Its heavy, and well built, and was not a problem for me to walk around with it hanging around my neck, and I think the weight would help with stabilizing during hand-holding. With the right tripod/head, and in good light, it would be a great lens for wildlife if you did not already have a quality 300/400mm lens–well worth the price. But only in good light, as with my 300L on the crop sensor. If I chose this lens I would consider a gimble style tripod head or whatever was stable enough to get solid shots at the 400mm+ range.I like the smooth but resistant focus and zoom rings and lock button to hold the zoom in any place that you want.

More Pros than Cons, overall happy with the product

I was impressed by this lens’ performance but I found some Cons that I wanted to share too.I should say that I’ve been shooting in bright day light so far and can’t tell how this lens performs otherwise.Pros:- autofocus speed is very good even at 600mm. I didn’t observe any “focus hunting” at all so far.- manual focus is pretty manageable. The manual focus ring is positioned conveniently enough- I found that the best results could be achieved in combining manual focus (focusing on the object initially using left hand) and auto focus (zeroing in by pressing the shutter button half way down).- a pleasant surprise was that this lens does come with a nice cushioned bag and straps (which is not among the pictures when you are buying this lensCons:- when I first found this item on Amazon, it was $835. While I was thinking and getting ready to buy, it went up to $840 and then to $855! That happened within 1 hour. Not cool, Amazon! I feel I overpaid $20 for this item for no reason.- beware, this lens is very heavy! I should say that you may get used to it and even may be able to shoot without a tripod (I did, with pretty good results) but at first it seemed to me impossible to use this lens without a tripod.- auto focus may not pick the object of your interest at first and instead focus on something near it. The workaround is (see my “Pros” above) to combine both manual and autofocus for best results

Awesome Lens for my Nikon D5000

Just received this amazing lens and can’t be more pleased. Took this picture of our neighbors cat Lucy from our 15′ high deck and she was about 50′ away. I’m looking forward to photographing the Eagles that live on our lake.

    Great reach!

Purchase for use with my Canon 80D and it never let me down. Image quality is great, contrast is spot on, and auto focus fast enough for sports or birds in flight.

    Not a reputable company

I bought this as a “very good” like new condition lens for my camera as per this seller. I had the lens for 2 days and it would connect and disconnect from the camera and say lens not found. I have owned cameras and lenses for years. The seller insisted that I wasn’t using the lens correctly, and gave excuses. I ended up paying nearly the same price for a brand new one, when I should have just bought new. I decided to have it inspected by a camera shop to professionally clean it and the sensors/pins were damaged because they were not cleaned properly when the lens was refurbished. Do not buy from this seller. I wish I bought a new one, but by the time I paid to have it cleaned and looked at, the cost was the same.Overall, the lens works now, but you’re better off buying new.

This is one VERY shiny object. 🙂

Update May 2016: Recent firmware patches have improved the autofocus performance.UPDATE Jan. 2016: I did indeed buy the docking station and there has been one firmware released that made auto-focus do a better job for me!This is one very shiny toy. It took a while for me to post this review because at first I was not sure if maybe it had a focus problem. After three weeks it is clear that it is operator error and learning curve. I will post some sample pics.My camera: Canon 70D – This is a cropped sensor camera although the lens is compatible with full frames – not sure how it performs on those. On a nice bright day you can indeed hand hold this although it is a bit of a beast. To demonstrate this, every picture I have uploaded were taken hand-held. If you are going to use a tripod you will need a real one, not one of the little plastic bargain brands. Picture of my camera with this lens (taken from my cell phone camera) included. This lens works great but you have to keep track of all the settings and remember which ones you have set. For example there are two types of optical stabilization and you have to remember to shut it OFF when on a tripod or it will mess things up a bit. To decrease your focus time you have a switch that can be set to 2.9-10m or 10m-infinity. Autofocus can go full auto, full manual, or auto with manual override. Many of my initial blown pics were because I had something set in the wrong place. One potentially awesome thing that I have not had time to try yet is that you can buy a $60 docking station that will let you burn custom settings and microfocus adjustments in to the lens as well as update its firmware. It lets you set priority on motor speed vs smoothness, Set custom focal range limits to speed up focus if you know the range you will be shooting at, make 16 separate microfocus adjustments to fine tune your autofocus…. 4 distances x 4 focal lengths. I will let you go look that up though as I have not tried it myself. It goes by the name of: Sigma 878101 USB Dock Lens Firmware for Canon Lenses (Black)So far this lens has done a great job for me. However I AM NOT A PIXEL PEEPER. Photoshop and Lightroom exist for a reason 🙂 If you are that kind of OCD photographer you need to wait for another person’s review.Yes it is not fully weather sealed like the $2000 “sport” model and yes it is made out of plastic (the “S” model is all metal I think). But it feels quite well made and solid, and there are many other things I would rather spend that extra $1000 on. The focus and the zoom feel very smooth and easy to control.Nice Things:They did not “nickel and dime” you on the extras. It comes with a nice padded case with a strap, a strap for the lens, and a lens hood.Technically, in spite of what Sigma says I was able to use my non-sigma (Tamron for Canon mounts) x1.4x tele-converter but regardless of lighting auto-foucs went down the pipes when I did. There is a hard lock at 150mm by means of a switch so when you are moving around gravity will not make the lens extend if it is pointing downwards. One weird thing. As of May 1 you can not just download the documentation for this thing from the web. So if you don’t do well at keeping track of flyers, you need to call Sigma tech support and they will e-mail you the PDF.I will try to add more details as I think of them, but for now here are some pictures I have managed (only post-processing is crop, image reduction, and enhancing exposure/color if light was low)

    Amazing Telephoto Lens

The performance of this lens is stellar! Super easy to set and use, the image stabilization is as equal if not better than my Nikons lens. Tonight I tested it in a hurry, made a quick video shoot and took some pictures of the moon, I was blown away! It is heavy but I can tell it is because of the quality hardware.

High quality lens at reasonable price

I bought this lens specifically for an African Safari. My longest lens previously was the excellent Canon 70-300 f4-5.6 L lens but I knew it wouldn’t have the necessary “reach” for wildlife photography. I used this lens over a 12 day period, in various lighting conditions, on just about every typical African animal as well as a variety of birds. I was thrilled with the results. All of my shots were hand held (!) and I found the auto focus and image stability to be excellent. Not perfect but excellent the vast majority of the time. The reach of 600mm was adequate 80-90% of the time and I occasionally found 100mm to be a bit too “telephotic” requiring me to change lenses. I would highly recommend this lens to someone looking for an excellent lens, that is hand holdable, and that will not completely break the bank…relatively speaking of course.

SAME QUALITY AS MY PREVIOUS CANON LENS, BUT 1/3 or 1/4 THE COST.

I really worried that going with other than an OEM Canon lens would sacrifice some aspect of my images. It didn’t sacrifice a thing. I’m glad I saved a whole lot of money.

Awesome lens, insane reach, terrible in low light

This lens is incredible for the price. I originally bought the 100-400mm Sigma, which I understand is pretty much the same as this lens other than size/reach, and that lens was really good, but I think this one is a bit sharper. The reason I upgraded was because I loved the 400mm reach and got addicted to it, and figured 600 was better than 400, right?? I will say that this is quite a bit bigger and heavier than the 100-400mm version (twice the weight). Your forearm WILL get tired of you handhold this for too long, but it’s bearable. The autofocus on this is a little slower than the 100-400mm, and it seems to hunt more – but it’s possible it’s because the extra reach compresses the scene more (that’s just a guess, I don’t know if that’s actually how it works). Costwise it’s not much more than the 100-400, so I would base your decision on whether you’re okay with the extra size and weight. I could fit the 100-400 in my camera bag just fine with the hood and camera attached, but I had to upgrade my bag for this. That said, the reach is AWESOME, coming from a 200mm. I’m using it on a Nikon D7500, giving an effective 900mm telephoto reach. The construction of the lens seems very high quality and solid. I couldn’t be happier. The one down side of this lens (and it is a big down side) is that it’s awful in low light. It’s completely fine in daylight, but in shade you’ll be using pretty high ISO to have even a chance at a good shot. On a cloudy day in the shade, you’ll have trouble even at high ISOs. Lastly, I tried this on my old Nikon D5000, which doesn’t do well at higher than 400 ISO, and it was unusable in anything other than bright daylight, so I might not buy this if you have an old camera. That said, if you want anything even close to this kind of reach in a faster lens, you’ll pay 10-20x the price of this, so take that for what it’s worth. There always trade offs. For the price this is an insanely great lens.

This lens is for the birds…..and any other critters that like to socially distance.

I had my eyes on this lens for quite sometime, and am so glad that I made the purchase. I mainly use this lens for wildlife photography, and at my kids baseball games (easy shooting from the stands or down the foul lines). The build quality is great by my standard, the durable heavy duty plastic used in the Contemporary version is certainly tough. While it is not as fast or as sharp as some of the top of the line prime or other mega zooms (i.e., Canon EF 600mm, 500mm or 400mm USM lenses, or the EF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS II USM, etc.), it is significantly cheaper, so for me the way lower price point more than makes up for the slight drop in speed/sharpness. I can’t comment on how it compares optically to the Tamron G2 150-600, but the Sigma it is cheaper by at least a few hundred so to me it was an easy choice.Pros:- IMO the best price point available;- Great image quality once you figure out how it jives with your camera (re: ISO, shutter speed [min 2x focal length]);- Durable and tough, the composite plastic is great.Cons:- It is “heavy” at 4.25 lbs, but what can be expected for a well built zoom lens. I haven’t tried a monopod or tripod with it, that would undoubtedly help, but I am mobile when I shoot wildlife so for me I prefer to shoot from the hip;- Sometimes focus hunts, especially with flying birds at full zoom (> 500mm);- Not great in low light, but at 600mm and F 6.3 what do you expect? If your camera can tolerate higher ISO then it shouldn’t really be a problem (re: owl shot). I mean how many of us are shooting for Nat Geo?- The lens focal lengths switch (full, 10-infinity, 2.8m – 10m) on the lens body is lose and I tend to bump it when I’m walking around with it, so that can be annoying.Overall, the lens is great optically (not perfect, but damn good) and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a mega zoom that doesn’t want to break the bank. All of the accompanying photos were taken by me, shooting handheld, on a Canon 80D (APS-C).

This is a really great telephoto zoom lens

This lens is great but it takes a little practice and getting used to. The lens weighs about 4-1/2 pounds, so it takes practice if you plan to hand hold it (especially for wildlife photos, which I like to do). The auto focus is pretty fast. The lens has image stabilization, but if you can use the lens without image stabilization, you can get sharper photos. It is a good idea to have a monopod handy. The autofocus has three ranges: full (2.8Meters to infinity), short, (2.8M to 10M), and 10M to infinity. These ranges let you get a little faster autofocus if you select a range. You should know this lens will run your camera battery down a little faster if you use autofocus and image stabilization all the time. I was able to get some nice results almost immediately. After a few weeks, I’ve gotten better with it. If you’re a serious photographer and feel you need a powerful telephoto lens, I would recommend this lens. My camera is a Nikon DL3400.The photos I included in this review were shot as RAW images and processed with Darktable before converting to JPG images.Update: I have noticed that it sometimes loses the electrical connection with the camera. After further testing and cleaning of electrical contacts, it appears the problem is with the camera body rather than the lens.

    Amazing telephoto lens

Probably my favorite lens of my kit. This thing is insane. Other than low light (like the 30m after the the sun has gone down), you can get great great shots. I took this to a safari in Kenya and was happy with every photo.

    Limited use for most

Most photographers know that most of the time longer lenses can effect picture quality. I used this one on a Canon 90D. I don’t have the strength to hand hold it and would recommend using this only on a tripod. Any issues with picture quality can be overcome by good processing. The only photographers in my world who use this length of lens are those standing onshore trying to capture water fowl at a distance. It’s a good quality lens, if that’s what you’re looking for but purchase it with both intent and the frequency of your expected use (unless you have money to burn). I do just fine using my 100-400mm and 75-300L series for my nature photography. But I’m not shooting water fowl from the shore. My brother is an awesome astrophotographer using his 100-400 mm lens. Big is not always better.I recommend if you plan to use it often.

    Thank You, Sigma

This is my first excursion into the world of long lenses, so I have nothing to compare it to. I bought it based on positive reviews and the fact that customization is possible with the optional docking system (which I also purchased). The limited bit of shooting I have done thus far has demonstrated that this lens was a great choice, as it puts the power and quality of a long lens in the hands of one who cannot justify purchasing pro-level equipment.I’m using a Canon 80D (also a new acquisition). My interest is birds and wildlife. After going on several practice excursions, I can easily see the exciting potential with this lens/camera combination. Downloading images after a shoot is like opening a present. What most passersby will barely see as a brief movement in a bush becomes a full-screen gift of nature. Even the common sparrow (good practice birds) sparks new interest. If your justification for purchasing this lens is a fascination with bringing distant objects into sharp imagery you can enjoy and share with others, I am certain you will be more than satisfied with this purchase. I find the quality this piece of equipment offers deepens my interest in understanding the art of photography. I have seen what other, more competent photographers can do with this lens and I enjoy the challenge of producing similar images, possibly even surpassing them. I have much to learn and this lens/camera combination presents a wide horizon that should stimulate my photographic aspirations for years to come. Thank you Sigma, for making available a quality lens that offers plenty of headroom for a novice like myself.

    Great Wildlife Lens

I have been using a Sigma 18mm – 300mm lens, mostly for shooting pictures of dragonflies and other insects. I love it, but, in the winter, when there are only birds around, that lens just wasn’t quite good enough. I was hesitant to buy a 600mm lens, because I feared the extra weight would wear this 5′-2″, 63-year-old woman out, and that I would need to start lugging a tripod around as well. My fears were ungrounded: the lens is a bit heavy, but not more than I can handle. I’m now getting great shots using it hand-held.

    So far so good!

Coming from a Canon 70-200 f2.8 (non-IS) i was a little skeptical. This is my first Sigma lens and it will fill the void beyond 200mm. My main concerns is the AV, f5 – f6.3 will take some practice being use to f2.8.I’m using a first gen Canon 7D and focal tracking on our dog was pretty good. lens hunts a little but i knew that going in. build quality feels good in hand. This “C” version is exactly what i was looking for as far as bang for the buck. view finder is dark at 600mm, i assume this is normal for crop body?although my copy seems to have been opened/used or returned from the seller, I will give it a solid 30 days and see if there are any issues with this lens.pics provided of the birds were handheld with resting the lens front on the window to steady. pics of the dog were handheld, no support.

    AMAZING FOR PRICE !!!

Received this lens today; attached it to the Nikon D 850 and took some test shots.Very impressive. All these images except for the wood fence were hand held at ISO 2000 @ f/7.1—–Aperture preferred. Shutter speeds 1/640th to 1/1200. All shot large RAW.No processing other than some exposure adj.Overcast day.Focuses well; fairly fast if one uses the focus limiter.May not be as fast as the D5, though if one is shooting sports, I feel confident it will not struggle with a little pre-planning.The geese image was approx 250 yds distant. The hill with truck approx 1/2 mile.Just can’t see the reason to purchase the 600mm Nikon priced 12x more $$$Did (Full Crop) in some of the photos; see insets.

    Wow. Love this thing.

This lens is fantastic. I used it to get some very detailed shots of the moon. I also got some very clear pictures of a suspicious vehicle’s license plates at a distance of probably 75-85 feet, through a window. I can’t wait to take it to a park and get some photos of wildlife. Background: I was extremely disappointed in a Canon 55-250mm Lens I bought years ago. It was absolutely awful at 250mm. I’m surprised Canon was willing to have their name on such a terrible lens. So I had no patience for low-quality zoom lens issues. I’m happy to say the Sigma 150-600mm completely blows that old lens out of the water. It’s much bigger, much heavier, and costs a lot more. But it’s so worth it.

Worked amazingly well straight out of the box!!

This lens arrived as I was leaving for the airport to watch my husband’s motorcycle race. I took it out of the box and brought it with me. I attached it to my Nikon D7200 and shot the race with the lens as is straight out of the box. I bought the lens dock to calibrate the autofocus, but these were shot before I’d even had a chance to use it (and obviously at high speeds). I am super impressed with the quality of this lens!!

Phenomenal lens and a great value

I have had this lens for 4 days now and I purchased it for celestial and wildlife photography. I took it out last night and photographed the waxing moon and was blown away by the image quality, sharpness of detail and the quality of the lens construction.Sigma offers a very high quality lens and excellent value compared to the Canon equivalent. With a lens of this size and weight, you absolutely need to use a tripod to mount the lens when at the 400-600mm range, to get the sharpest results. In daylight, you will still need a solid support or secure grip to ensure stability.I look forward to warmer weather and getting out to test this lens further, but so far, very impressed.

Very good lens, so far very pleased

It is a very good lens for the price and the images so far are better then my 70-300mm Canon lens. The extra focal length definitely comes in handy as well. Like that it comes with a case, cause you’ll need it for the lens size. Only downfall is it is quite heavy and your arm may get tired holding it up after a while.

TOP NOTCH! I rarely Guve 5 Star Reviews

I will start off by saying I only review items that I have gotten to use. I don’t review anything right after I took it out of the Box to say oh well this is amazing.. With that being said after using this lens for a couple of weeks I can honestly say it’s freaking incredible! With that being said this was my 1st serious lens purchase. Before this all I’ve been treating with have been kit lenses. I have this on a rebel T5I right now however I do plan to upgrade. The auto focus is sticky and tracks amazing.. Image civilization is Phenomenal. One problem I did have with it is it is when I had this attached to a shoulder sling when I walked the camera got switched and it’s auto focus length from 10 Meters to infinity down to 2 m to 10 m. For 2 days I could not get any sports photos that we’re coming out clear and was thinking I would have to send this back to Sigma. However the one day it just dawned on me to check that setting and I found that it had gotten switched perand switched. After doing something about it that’s what I had realized what it that while I was walking with the camera at my side it probably just got bumped. After switching it back to The infinity setting the the lens works perfectly. Images are extremely sharp and crisp. The background Boca is amazing even at F 6.3. This lens is a terrific investment. I really wanted to get the sport model however the extra $500 was kind of hard to justify especially on my budget however the contemporary lens truly is an incredible lens. If you’re looking for or a good sportsman or a lens to take photos of the moon or anything like that I would not not hesitate to get this once again

Excellent lens at a reasonable price

I bought this primarily for the two upcoming eclipse’s (with the appropriate solar filter, of course) It couples perfectly with my Canon D70. Focus is fast and silent with a sharp image. Zoom is excellent too. I also added the Sigma 2X teleconverter to double the focal length. It also couples to my camera and both items work flawlessly together. The lens IS heavy and a tripod is recommended. In a pinch you can shoot handheld. I would buy this item again.

    Really Heavy

Works well with my Nikon D850 camera. I appreciate the lock feature if I want to keep the lens set at a particular focal length. When comparing the zoom lens built onto my Nikon Coolpix P1000 with this lens when I photograph birds on the water (ducks, geese and so forth), this lens is far superior at 600 mm to my P1000’s lens set at 600 mm. Only problem is that this lens is very heavy.

    Very Nice Lens!

This lens is sharp all the way to 600mm. I had read some reviews saying it was soft at 600mm, so I had to test it out. I do plane spotting and use a Canon 7D Camera. Auto focus is fast and accurate, the IS is also very well done. I also tested it on my R7 with the EF Converter, no issues at all with it either. I have a 100-400 IS USM L lens to compare it to, and that lens stays on the R7 due to weight. The wife likes to use the lighter setup. I am very impressed with the lens. Time will tell, but the savings are worth it to me. It’s very well built, it’s tight, and the zoom is perfect. YMMV but I am happy!

Sigma super tele for Nikon body

Well, over a year using this lens and I can’t complain…To me this was the perfect super lens for wildlife, is not that heavy, works good and has great sharpness. This lens has been on my nikon body for almost a year… is the only lens I’ve been using in 95% of the situations.I try focusing in really dark situations and I got very sharp images. Auto focus is fast and accurate, probably not the faster on the market but is the faster on my bag so is enough for me.I preffer this version than the new one (60-600mm) When you are shooting wildlife, in general this is the perfect range for every situation. There’s only few things that I found that are not great and can be better SIGMAColor rendition is not as good as the other zoom lens I use, because I found this SIGMA lens model has a blue shift, not a big problem because can be fixed on body or in post, but is an extra that I have to do. (I recomend do this on post because I notice is not the same quantity and quality in every light situation)Compared with the other zoom lens this one has 600mm and that has been really great.IS is really helpful, I can shoot 1/125 handheld at 600mm and that is great, with my previous 500mm with out IS I have to be around 1/320This lens is not perfect, but for wildlife photography has been amazing to have it, probably a 12K 600mm lens has less aberrations and chromatic shifts but for this price and with the few issues If I have to, I will buy it again.I love this SIGMA lens.

    Great Value and Impressive Quality

For a “cheap” telephoto lens, this Sigma really blew my expectations out of the water. It is relatively lightweight, maybe only weighing 7 lbs. when paired with my Canon Rebel T7 camera body, so it is great to carry, even on long hikes or birdwatching trips. The AF feature is fairly decent, getting a nice clear focus within the 100-400mm focal length, in my experience. Beyond 400mm, the focus is less accurate, but the option for manual override helps in those instances. The AF feature is also on the slow side, so getting yourself acquainted with the manual focus may be helpful for capturing flighty birds or other fast moving objects. The optical stabilization feature also works great, allowing for smooth viewing even in high movement shots. There are two options: full stabilization, or isolated horizontal/vertical stabilization for tripod viewing. Occasionally, there can be a slight jump or “jitteriness” in the stabilization, but this is typically minor and does not last long.Lastly, this lens seems to do well in a variety of lighting situations. Attached to this review are pictures taken by myself in everything from the beating summer sun to cloudy skies. The lens performed well in all situations! I find many of the limitations in picture quality may be stemming from me using an entry-level camera body, and aren’t the lens itself.All-in-all, I strongly recommend this lens. It is well worth the money, and is probably one of the best values for a telephoto lens out there.

You will definitely feel the 4.2 lbs, made me start working out again, lol, but with a lens of this type you’re probably using a tripod. Bought for taking photos of birds and attached to my cannon 60D, had this body for years and would rather spend money on lens than a new body.

This zoom lens is exactly what I was looking for. It fits on my DSLR cannon rebel t6. The range of this camera is great for sports photography. The down side is it is very heavy. I purchased a mono pod that attaches to the bottom of the lens which is a game changer. The automatic stability control allow for clear photos. I have enjoyed this lens and have been happy with my purchase so far.

This lens can’t be beat for the price!

First off, I’ll say I’m an advanced enthusiast not into pixel peeping. But this lens is great! I got it primarily for some random nature walks and the 2 airshows I attend each year. Optically, it’s very sharp in the middle all focal lengths but definitely visibly falls off in the corners as I’m using it on a full-frame Canon 6D. Not deal breaking but the outer edges are noticeably less sharp without pixel peeping. Color rendition is very good, similar to my Canon L lenses, but probably just a bit less saturated/dull. Focus speed is very good, I haven’t missed any shots because of it yet. If you use the focus distance limiting switches, it’s even faster because it limits the focus hunting. I haven’t done any high speed tracking/panning with it yet, but that’s not a super strength of the Canon 6D to begin with. Build quality is excellent for the price. Zoom and focus rings have good tension, no rough spots throughout the range. All the parts fit together nicely, no play or wiggle while zooming. The first part of the body (last 2″ near the mount) is metal, the rest is thermally stable plastic as is pretty much the norm these days for non-professional grade lenses. The tripod foot is also removeable and the lens includes a nice silicone ring to protect the foot mounts when removed. It’s also worth noting the lens comes with a nice padded, Sigma labeled bag with a strap to store/transport the lens. This is a nice touch and saved me a few bucks since any third party lens case big enough to hold this size lens is at least $40. Weight could definitely be an issue for some. At 4.25lbs its my heaviest lens by far. I use a Black Rapid RS-5 sling strap and it makes it relatively easy to carry, but a standard neck strap wouldn’t work for anything more than a short stint. For days at the airshow, I plan on using my monopod. As a matter of habit and good practice I always put a B+W UV MRC filter on all my lenses. So just a warning that at 95mm, that size filter cost more than 10% of the lens’ cost! I waffled between this lens and the twice as expensive Sport model. From the few online reviews available, the only real “cons” to this lens verses the sport is slightly lower optical clarity (but I’m not a pixel peeper as previously noted), slightly slower focus (could be an issue, but I’m no pro to begin with), and lack of the tank-like build quality and weather sealing. So given these 3 cons, the only one that would really affect my personal use is build quality and I couldn’t justify another thousand dollars for that. The other obvious comparison for this lens is the similarly priced Tamron 150-600. So the following is what swayed me to the Sigma: I’ll say that I generally prefer Sigma to Tamron for third party lenses (though I do own Tamron’s excellent new SP 15-30mm F2.8), I really like the look of Sigma’s new Global Vision lens line (personal preference), the Sigma included a nice padded case, and the final one up over the Tamron is Sigma’s USB dock. And lastly, to cover the USB dock. This lens has two “Custom” mode positions, and I made C1 a setting to prioritize speed in it’s focus and OS and C2 a setting to prioritize accuracy in its focus and OS.Update 11-16-2015: I still stand by this lens, it really is great. Added some pics from the Great New England Airshow. It was a cloudy, hazy, summer day and the lens still captured some pretty good color saturation. Pics taken with my Canon 6D, all handheld, really shows off the len’s OS. Most pics were keepers (or at least good enough) given the fairly high-speed tracking.

Fantastic lens for both wildlife and astrophotography…

I’m totally amazed with the way this lens shoots, both with the matched Sigma 1.4 Teleconverter and without… The highly rated 1.4 Teleconverter is also worth every penny, and takes ‘No’ sharpness away, I also believe only adds to it. Auto focus worked perfect also with the TC and is so fast.I’m using this wonderful lens mounted on my new beloved Nikon Z6 Mk2 full frame Mirrorless camera for both wildlife and astrophotography, including quite a bit of deep-sky work… The lens and camera are mounted on a gimbal equipped heavy-duty tripod I used in my Photography business for 14 years. After reading everything I could on this Sigma 150-600 Contemporary lens, I also read so many who compared the sharpness of this C lens very close, and even equal in several cases to the 1lb heavier Sport lens which also costs $1k more… The S lens is probably a tiny bit sharper with it’s extra glass group but for a grand more and a pound heavier this Lens has totally amazed me.I’ve intended for 2 years to finally purchase a high-quality Telescope and GoTo Equatorial tracking mount but simply haven’t been able to chose which type, so this Samsung 150210mm to 600850mm (with 1.4 Teleconverter) lens has been perfect for the interim.Zooms traditionally being a bit soft wide open, as well as at the full zoom position are well known compared to Prime lenses and individual lenses each have their own personality for sweet spots… With this in mind I truly believe I’ve purchased a very fine piece… I can only pray they are all coming out of manufacturing with this great quality. As many have attested my lens is a tiny bit soft at 150mm yet still very acceptable, but from there out to 600850mm its razor sharp… I’ve found f9 to be it’s sweet spot, but f11 out to f40 are almost just as sharp, it’s very close all the way including out to 850mm.One of the images I’ll add shows two bucks measured on Google Earth at 34 mile and was shot at 850mm with the matching 1.4 Sigma Teleconverter.. The heat distortion was huge considering it was shot off my car hood last week at our record 16°.  The image is a bit fuzzy but considering it was shot hand held off my car hood at 34 mile with so much heat distortion and 850mm I was impressed.  I’ll add a couple others as well. This lens is an amazing accomplishment for Sigma and is well worth every penny.

and frankly have been disappointed lately on the lack of shock proof of the …

The price to value ratio is incredible for this lens, I had broken an older 80-400 Nikkor, and just could not seebuying the more expensive version, and frankly have been disappointed lately on the lack of shock proofof the newer complex Nikkor lens, so, I decided to try Sigma for a change. I will say the build qualityof this consumer level lens is actually quite high. I would not call it a tank, but as tough of what I haveseen out of Nikkor lately, I also got the USB adjuster, but so far, I have not used, because my copyseems to be sharp out of the box. I have noticed some focus issues for my D800 at the 600 point, if Ipull back a hair, it snaps into focus,The focus is fast, but you have to be careful, it can get into a hunting mode, and once in that state, seemsto have some issues settling down. but overall, it seems ot focus well, and I have gotten amazing shotsalready at the 500 to close to 600 range.I have been able to get hand held shots at the 150th of a second zoomed at 600, which is pretty amazingfor such a large lens. It is large, I am able to walk about but, it is not as compact as my older Nikkor80-400, but then again the newer Nikkor 80-400 is a huge beast too. People will definitely notice this lens.so,, I would recommend this lens for the best reach per dollar out there.

Absolutely love this lens! I cannot love this lens more.

I have the EF mount version and I cannot be more happy with this lens. Auto focus is fast and accurate. I love this lens for wildlife photography and for moon shots as well. The lens is heavy so you will need a very sturdy tripod. I ended up ordering a Cotton Carrier camera harness to carry the camera with me and it helps a lot with the weight. I don’t normally leave detailed reviews but I have been so happy with this lens I just wanted to give them props for a great product. Oh and here are a few pics I took with it. I was using the sigma 1.5 teleconverter as well with the moon shot.

It’s an amazing lens. It was used with a Canon RP (with the Canon adapter) and a Canon 1D Mark IV. It works a whole lot better with a cropped sensor dslr because of the 1.6x crop. So it’s really good for bird watching. It can take some time getting use to the zooming since it’s quite hefty and heavy.

    Finish rubs off

As far as image quality is concerned, you cannot beat this lens. The only issue is that the black finish rubs off the lens and onto my pants … and I cannot wash it out. This has trashed 2 pairs of pants. A strange problem, but if you put the lens on a side mount sling strap, watch out for your clothes.

    Better than the Tamron 150-600

I purchased and returned two copies of the Tamron 150-600 because I was unable to obtain sharp handheld images on any consistent level, particularly above 500mm. I’m honestly not sure what the issue/s were, maybe the Vibration Compensation, maybe the AF, maybe the glass, maybe a combination of issues…but, all I know is that this Sigma 150-600 C was consistently tack sharp as a handheld right out of the box! The Optical Stabilization is fast, solid and dependable, and when coupled with the compact size and relative light weight, it becomes an exceptional handheld super telephoto lens…the best I have ever used. At f/8, this lens truly competes with the image quality of much more expensive lenses. Sigma has found a way to offer nature photographers excellence in form, function and price! Here’s a completely unedited crop of one of the first images I took from my back porch while testing the lens. Here’s some photos I’ve taken so far with this lens. It’s coupled with a Canon 70D and all shots are handheld except for the moon.

Takes beautiful, sharp photos at 600mm!

Have four fledging White-tailed Kites nesting in a 100’ pine tree near my home and my Canon 100-400mm L IS II wasn’t quite cutting it, even with an extender, so I ordered this lens spur of the moment. I really wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I do, but the photos speak for themselves. Worked great right out of the box with my Canon 80D. The seller, The Pixel Connection, shipped VERY quickly, faster than I was expecting which was a nice surprise! I literally unboxed it, attached to camera and ran outside to grab these shots. Very excited to have the extra range without paying $13K for a Canon 600mm L lens. This Sigma is a nice addition to my lens collection and I’m glad to have it. Feels very balanced and easy to hand hold & maneuver while shooting wildlife. I mostly hand hold to shoot. Great lens!
