    Sounds good.

Sounds good. I only have the sound bar, no extras. Not sure it is worth $1400.It does sound excellent. Sometimes I have to hit mute because I can’t tell the sound is actually coming from the speaker.Definitely recommend if you have the cash to drop.

Awesome soundbar if you get it at the “used” price.

    Pat myself on the back!

Why, because it is future compatible with newer 120hz tv’s for one. Sounds great and is expandable. Easy setup and works great with my Roku tv. Voice is very clear and well built. The multiple hdmi ports can be hard to plug in though because of the recessed area, make sure you push them 8n all the way. 4/23/2023 update, still as expected. BTW I recommend getting some protection for it and your TV like an inexpensive UPS battery backup to condition the AC.

Center channel mode may not work properly with your Bravia

As has been widely discussed online, there seems to be a compatibility problem this sound bar with certain Bravia tvs. This was certainly the case with my A80k purchased the summer of 2023. Connecting the cable results in a constant hiss from the tv. I’ll let you google the rest. Additionally, I didn’t care for the sound of the sound bar alone. Kind of like an old fashioned boom box from back in the day. It made me appreciate just how good the acoustic panel system on the tv itself is. The picture and sound are very tightly integrated, unlike the disjointed combination of the tv and sound bar. It has more bass for sure but, to me, it’s a mess. I don’t watch many spectacular movies so it’s not a big loss for me. Tv speakers for tv and hooked up to the stereo via optical out for music seems to be the solution for my use case.

Bought more than 1, sound is amazing, I’m now a Sony fan boy.

Love the sound coming from this sound bar. I originally bought one for my living room, along with the rear RS5 speakers. The sound is incredible and well worth the money (I hesitated a couple weeks because of the price). I ended up buying a 2nd one for my bedroom TV and just ordered a 3rd one for my exercise room to pair with my Peloton bike and row machine. The sound is just too good. If I could fit one in my car, I’d buy a 4th.

    Not enough settings

Unless you download the user manual before you buy, theres no way you’ll know that this bar absolutely requires a tv to use. Sure, you can connect your phone to the soundbar easily, but you’ll only have access to one or two settings in the form of bass and volume levels, with no sound-field-360-space-mapping optimization options whatsoever; this is entirely impossible without connecting it to a television. At this price, I would expect bluetooth to do more than simply “play music”

    Sounds great but….

It still needs a sub to really sound great and the voice button almost always needs to be engaged for proper dialog audio.

    Great speaker, damaged in shipping.

First of all, I love this sound bar. I got the additional 500w woofer and man does it kick. It can and will easily get uncomfortably loud, probably not good if you live in an apartment and want to keep your neighbors happy!I’m only giving it 4 stars because it arrived slightly damaged, but since the &$#%’in thing took 3 WEEKS to get here, no way am I returning it. The styrophome was all busted up and the front grill is slightly dented (again, not a HUGE deal but still disappointing). You’d think as long as it took to get here they would have taken better care of it.

    WORTH EVERY.SINGLE.PENNY.

I hesitated on buying this for a bit because of the price and finally bit the bullet and purchased the 7000 soundbar, the rear speakers and the subwoofer. We are a movie loving family and I figure we will get years of good use from it. The set arrived today, and although I was nervous on how difficult it would be, set up was incredibly easy. Plugged in the cords, we have a SONY tv), hit enter twice on the soundbar remote and it took care of the rest. We have our tv room upstairs in a loft and the sound that this set delivered blew our minds. We felt more immersed in the sound than we have ever felt at the movie theater. I’ve had other surround sound sets before but they don’t come close to this setup. We watched the newest Top Gun and it was like a new movie for me! I couldn’t get to the theater for the experience and my husband said it sounded better here than when he watched it in theaters. Sony has done an outstanding job, spoiling us rotten as we can’t imagine how we watched movies without this thing. We turned the surround sound on and off for comparison a few times between only our tv audio (which is impressive for a tv) and the SONY soundbar and rear speakers/sub. How can I explain it-it’s like drinking hot, mud water vs crisp clear water lol. You won’t regret the investment. Excellent job Sony! Loyal customers here for sure.

    Be Aware!

I initially bought this without the sub woofer. Seems well made, paired with my Sony Tv as you’d expect but I found the sound quality on some shows muddled and lacking clarity, even switching to all voice settings on the sound bar and the TV. I was considering returning the product but I took a chance and ordered the SW5 sub. Clarity of dialogue has greatly improved and the big sub has boom to spare. In music mode you can crank it up to 11 with perfect clarity. My take away is don’t buy this without committing to the sub purchase as well.

Sony makes good stuff but sometimes they do crazy things

I have one of these attached to a Sony A95L TV, along with the SA-SW5 subwoofer and rear SA-RS5 speakers. The whole setup sounds great. Lots of people here will attest to that. But Sony builds things in a strange way sometimes that makes you wonder how much they think about the consumer who has to use it.One of the weirdest things about this is the fact that it can act as a streaming box (for a limited number of streaming services). Apparently this is if you don’t have a smart TV nor do you wish to buy a streaming box for $100. Instead, use the awkward controls on the soundbar remote to stream your programs! What could be awkward or silly or useless about that. Geez Sony, I want my soundbar to be a SOUND bar. I cannot comment on how well it works as a streaming box because a) it’s guaranteed to be awful and b) I don’t even care to try.Other things:1. The top of the unit is, with the exception of the up-firing speakers at either end, completely covered in dark SHINY black glass. They are proud of this idea as I saw the designers talking about it on a Sony-produced video as something to help the acoustics. But they apparently never put this thing in front of an actual TV because if they had, they would discover that the long slab of glass reflects the TV perfectly and is highly distracting and annoying to the viewer. It’s hard to believe no one noticed this during development. I fixed the problem by using some of this material: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002AS9N58which is a matte black rubberized mesh shelf liner. I cut it to size to cover the glass (no adhesive, just laid it on flat) and now the soundbar disappears into the dark when playing the TV. Like it should have to begin with. Glass is fine Sony, just don’t make it shiny.2. The HDMI sockets for the two pass-through ports are covered with a temporary label, while the eArc connection is left open, just to make sure you don’t plug things into the wrong place during initial installation. This is a nice touch. But each different cable for this thing (power, HDMI, center channel audio) comes out from a different spot on the back and at a slightly different angle, meaning that the cables come out of the back of the unit in slightly different directions, making a neat and cable-invisible installation tricky. At least the power cable is detachable (IEC C7 connector) so you can use the length you need (unlike the A95L which has a non-detachable 5 foot power cable).3. The wall-mounting holes are located underneath the unit and are a rather bizarre 30.5 inches apart, a measurement that doesn’t line up very well with the most common 16″ stud spacing. Even if not for the US market, what country has standardized on 30.5 inch stud spacing? And you’ll want to mount this on studs as it weighs nearly 20 pounds.4. Compared to the A95L remote, the remote for this unit feels cheap and plastic-y. It is not backlit and does not light up when you move it. Boo, hiss, Sony, you cheaped out on the highest-end soundbar you sell. But at least it’s not festooned with dedicated buttons for streaming services I will never use and it’s not huge like older Sony remotes used to be.5. Kudos to Sony for supporting the LDAC codec on Bluetooth output to allow listening to high-quality audio with headphones. The A95L itself only supports SBC which is not the same quality or latency. However, I’ve had mixed success with different BT receivers using this soundbar – some work and some don’t.6. The price of this unit has gone up recently from $998 to $1398, a rather stunning 40% price increase. The Sony tax is heavy with this one.7. Pairing this unit with the Sony SA-SW5 subwoofer (which has also increased in price by 40%) and the rear SA-RS5 rear speakers was instant and has worked flawlessly since setup. I was worried at first but it sounds great and sure beats having to run speaker wire all over the room. But of course you’re paying for it.8. The control buttons on the top of the unit are not backlit and are hard to see in the dark. But mostly you can just use the remote or let the TV take care of powering it on/off when the TV goes on/off so it’s not a major problem.9. There is no ethernet Internet access – you have to use WiFi if you want to upgrade the firmware (or, heaven forfend, stream programs). C’mon Sony, put an Ethernet jack on it.

    What great sound this produces

I really can’t tell you how much I love the sound of this speaker bar It is definitely top of the line. This is the one I’ve been waiting for to go with my two back speakers and my new base of the way you put all three of them together. This one was easy to set up because the instructions were clear and precise. Easy to use and the way it maps your room for the best sound experience is so excellent. I’m really glad I got this

    Constant audio problems error

I got this many months ago. I used digital optical cables and tried two different cables. Both worked fine on other devices and we’re good quality cords however in this sound bar after a few minutes the audio would stop entirely and to get it working again I had to toggle between different modes to wake it up. I read about there not being enough signal which may cause it to shut off but this wasn’t the case. I returned my first one to get another hoping it was a defective bar. The second bar also had this defect which was annoying to say the least. I opted to send all HDMI cables into the sound bar instead of going the optical cable route… And with this setup the audio drops every few minutes on average where it’s just silent for a few seconds. I haven’t returned it because of the massive inconvenience and pure stubbornness on my part. I’ve tried all sorts of system settings and different modes, it just seems like a defective piece of hardware. For the expense it’s extremely dissapointing. It sounds great when it is working, especially with the bass I got with it. I wouldn’t recommend to any sane person for the price they’re asking.

Excellent replacement for my AV system.

No, not as good as my Klipsch system on music, but still very good. TV and movies are better. A plus was that I could use my old wireless Klipsch sub to help the low end. Works seamlessly with my Sony TV.

    Well, I’m broke.

Well, allow me to say this. This is my second sound bar that I’ve owned. My first one I bought 8 months ago, which was the Sony HT-S350. It was a 2.1 channel soundbar system. And it was great for what it was. Wound up giving it to a friend. And then I picked up this bad boy.For starters, this is a very expensive investment. However I felt that it was worth it. I love watching apps through my TV and I am a huge gamer. Real huge gamer. If you have the money. And you’re looking for a home theater system without all the wires and speaker channels lying all over the place. This is hands down the best I’ve heard and witnessed.I recommend getting the rear speakers that are optional. To get the full immersive effect. But really, you can get away without them. Because the sound bar itself does produce 7.1.2 channels. As far as the subwoofers concerned. Completely overpriced. I had to literally force myself to purchase the 200 w subwoofer, knowing that a home theater system cannot be without a subwoofer. But is $400. The 300 w subwoofer will cost you $700. I will not pay that.My recommendation, soundbar, 200 watt subwoofer and the rear speakers. And once you get through the instructions and the manual. Which you should keep by your side starting up. You will go into the audio settings. Keep the “sound on mode”set to on. This way you will take advantage of the vertical surround engine which produces Dolby Atmos and DTS X. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.Edit: for those who are not aware. I came across information, that will make this sound bar into 11.3.4. I got wind of this about a week ago. Sony is releasing a brand new pair of SA-RS5 wireless rear speakers, which are completely wireless with no power cord. And a battery to charge. They said it will get you up to 10 hours of use. And with a new update for the soundbar. The rear speakers are coming out in spring of 2022. And they are going to have up firing speakers, just like the sound bar. And the whole system will utilize the 360 reality audio. Pretty much, it’s the “tempest engine” found in the PS5. But Sony wants to call it 360 reality audio for the sound bar system. Plus, the rear speakers that are available right now. Will also be compatible with the 360 reality audio. Except the newer ones in spring. Are going to be a bit more fancier with up driving speakers. The new speakers will call $600. And is due out this spring along with an update for the soundbar system. So yeah, 11.3.4 Dolby Atmos and Dts-X Plus 3D reality audio. No need to say more.

    Sony’s walled garden

Update Oct 2022:LG software update 05.30.10 seems to resolve the incompatibility. Now, when TV turned off and back on later, it starts the soundbar on the last input setting, as expected. And, using an LG app, such as Netflix or Amazon, flips the soundbar to TV for the HDMI sound thru the cable back to soundbar. All good.HT-A7000 is connects to LG 8600PUA tv (on HDMI out/ ARC), anAmazon 4K Firestick (on HDMI2 – dongle required as stick is wider than the opening) and the HDMI1 from the output of Xfinity cable box . LG tv is ARC nor eARC. The ARC “CEC” connection is not compatible between Sony and LG. Turning off the tv will turn off (standby) the soundbar but turning on the soundbar does not turn on the tv. Further turning on the tv first causes the soundbar to revert to tv (which has no input other than the HDMI out from the soundbar). After a delay, the soundbar displays the Home Screen on the tv to require a fresh choice of input. The HDMI1 is active as the cable box is always on.Workaround: turn on the soundbar first. It will default to HDMI1. Then turn on the tv. It will be fed the HDMI1 signal. It may also revert to Home Screen, but the HDMI1 input is selected and a straight press of the center button on the remote will kick back to displaying the HDMI1 signal. For audio, we are getting Apple Airplay thru the TV down to the soundbar via screen share. Sounds great. For chrome cast and Bluetooth, must start that on the soundbar with the selected radio method before any device can find the soundbar. Interestingly, Amazon music is not working thru chrome cast, does work via Bluetooth. YouTube music works via chrome cast.Overall, sound is great. Usability suffers from not playing well with others. Three remotes are required for our set up.

    Great Sound, Strange Mounting Requirements…

Love this sound bar so far. The whole system (HT-A7000l, 300w subwoofer, rear speakers) was incredibly easy to set up. Simply plug in the power to each and they all synced up automatically with each other and my Sony Bravia TV. Unlike many other Stereo systems I’ve owned over the years this one is very “transparent”. Turn on the tv, sound bar/system is on and in use. Turn off tv, sound bar/system is off. There’s no need to turn on multiple devices, it all syncs automatically.Mounting the bar to the wall is a bit strange. Most TV mounts you purchase have you mount in the studs, which is almost never exactly square to the room or wall you want to mount the tv on. To compensate for this, the mount will multiple holes so that you can mount it “off center”, to the left, matched up with the studs, but then hang the tv over to the right a little bit such that although the mount is not centered, the TV itself ends up being just where you want it.The mounting bar has two(2) screw holes in the bottom only and the instructions ask you to mount the brackets to the studs. Well, this means there’s no possible way (in most cases) line the sound bar up with your tv because your tv mount is not necessarily centered behind the tv, because the studs are where they are. So you either have to mount the sound bar off center and drive yourself crazy, or opt to use wall anchors and mount it where you want. They don’t mention that as an option in the instructions, however.

    A BIG letdown.

I’m coming from my old Sonos setup complete with sub and rear speakers. I read and watched all the YouTube reviews before pulling the trigger on this. I paired it with my 85″ Samsung QN90A. Needless to say, I was expecting it to blow me off my feet especially considering the price just for the soundbar! BIG letdown is probably an understatement. Aside from the setup, Dolby Atmos was pretty much non-existent. You’ll have to crank the volume up to appreciate and actually enjoy it- something I can’t really do living in an apartment. But when I do, although it was more enjoyable, I didn’t get any sound coming from above me even when watching Dolby Atmos contents.I got it as an open box for a huge discount and it looked practically new so I’m not going to gripe too much. I think there’s potential if you get the whole setup but if you’re just looking for a soundbar, this will be a huge disappointment so opt for something cheaper. I’m going to complete the system starting with the rears so I can at least get the full immersive 3-D effect.

    Best Soundbar Ever

Love everything about sounbar except for clothe covering sony put on up firing speakers, wished it was a metal grill like the other speaker coverings. That’s the only reason I rate this soundbar a 4.5 star. The sound quality out the box is incredible. All connectivity options are available. The bass that comes out this sounbar put other sounbar subwoofers to shame. If you are uncompromising when it comes to sound then you want this soundbar.

This is the second faulty unit that we received. Won’t connect

Bought this for a gift for my dad. All the reviews said it was pretty much plug and play, but I’m thinking not. He also has last years model (2021) of a 75″ Sony TV with the ARC control. On setup it displays “HOME” then allows you to chose setup. When we selected the setup option the soundbar would just cycle between home and setup continuously. It wouldn’t allow us to select any other options and would continue until we pulled the power out. We tried a factory reset and called Sony to speak with a technician. He confirmed that the unit was faulty. For some reason Amazon’s return window was really short for this product. Maybe only 6 days, so we had to deal with Sony directly. Sent it to their repair department only to get called that they can’t find anything wrong with it. After we told the repair person the problem again they said they would look into it. The next day we got an email that they did indeed find a problem and would need to order a part that would take three weeks to get .They finally agreed to send us a new soundbar. 3 weeks later we finally received the soundbar back, and same issue as the first. Was told by Sony to send it in again but at this point we are just going to ask for a refund. My dad was really looking forwards to using his new soundbar but now we’re questioning Sony’s reliability.

Sounds good but not 1k good

For a 1k soundbar it should have included a sound bar, and the sound without the sound bar lacks some oomph for movies. Similar priced bars from the likes of Samsung and LG offer much more value for cost. It sounds good but not 1k good without a subwoofer and satellite speakers. I would be okay if it cost 500 to 700

Spatial 360 feature limits volume. The volume / bass are inadequate.

Spatial 360 feature limits volume. The volume / bass are inadequate. Output doesn’t match wattage claimed. The sound is very disappointing given this product’s price point. The sound output/experience of the bar by itself is marginal and requires the very expensive subwoofer to improve the theater experience to average quality. All in all, I’d say this product price point is excessive for what you get.

Lowest grade for a top tier sound bar

I had extremely high hopes for this sound bar paired with the SA-SW5 subwoofer and my sony a80k.Setup and everything was super easy, especially with having a sony TV.After first week of using I started noticing cut outs in one of the speakers. Subwoofer started cutting out as well and sounded almost blown at mid volume. Center channel did not work and had to get motherboard replaced twice on TV but even that didn’t allow me to use the tv as center. After about 3 weeks of having I returned it. Cut outs got worse, sub sounded completely blown at even low volumes.Compared to other sound bars in this tier I would get bose or samsung q990

Incredibly easy to set up, works as advertised with far more power than I originally expected and a clarity unheard of. It effortlessly pairs with the compatible satellite speakers and subwoofer, it also connects to the Wi-Fi to ensure it has the latest firmware update further improving the system and optional ecosystem.

Not what I expected for surround sound – very limited in sound.

First, with all the positive reviews with the Sony HT-A7000 sound bar – including the rear Wi-Fi speakers, I expected more. This is a mid-entry level system, if that. If you’re moving from a stereo receiver to this because of aesthetics; be warned, the sound will not be the same. The rear speakers do not achieve what is needed to make the surround pop and the bass doesn’t thump. Not happy and I’d return it if possible.

Solid speaker offering, thoughtfully crafted and goes great with our bravia tv.

Unboxing: It came in a nice long box, well packaged. It comes with a fat instruction booklet. I was absolutely shocked to find out it wasn’t just useless legal drivel. There’s 70 pages of useful, illustrated, and well written text. There’s also a paper wall mount template so you can get your holes easily drilled in the right place. They’ve included an HDMI cable. I try to use the cables that come with things first lately instead of what I already had. The cords themselves are often only rated up to a certain level of capability. There’s also a headphone style audio cord, a power cord, two very solid mounting brackets, a remote control with batteries, and a quick start guide. The speaker itself is impressive. It’s big, long, and heavy. Looks and feels like a high quality piece of equipment. I’m putting it on my mantle rather than wall mounting it. The power cord is a bit short. That’s fair I guess. extension cords can make it longer, but extra loops of cord can be hard to deal with. The cord is a fairly standard two prong with 8 shaped end. Unfortunately, there is no real thought put towards cable management. There’s a notch in back where the cords plug in, but no channel they can run in, so the speaker needs to be a cord’s width away from the wall unless you’re going to drill a hole right there or something. At least the end of the cord is smallish, so that’s viable.I do have a Sony Bravia television with a center (behind the screen) speaker, which this soundbar is designed to take advantage of. I wired things up as described in the instructions, and was getting video but not audio. What I ended up figuring out is that I needed to have my devices hooked up to the speaker inputs and then it would send the video signal to the television, which is the opposite of the old days when the television cords went out to the speakers. There are only three HDMI jacks on this, and one may be needed for the ARC channel to a television. Just enough for my needs, but I think splitters should work though if you have more devices. It does a very quick and inoffensive sound check to analyze the room acoustics and adjust accordingly. The remote is refreshingly extensive, with things like separate volume buttons for rear speakers and subwoofer. So many speakers these days either don’t give you the options, or have them deep in the menus somewhere. Sometimes I just want to crank up the bass for a rocket launch or something. Doesn’t mean I want to listen to it rumble through a financial report. I don’t have the rear speakers or the subwoofer yet, but I think I’m going to have to pick them up.I’ve tried a lot of speakers over the years, including some recent ones just below this price range, and this one is a keeper. It’s got great sound. Very immersive, not tinny. It sounds like a lot of good sized speakers. I’m so glad to see companies starting to put out surround sound systems with wireless rear/subwoofers. The big soundbar too. It’s such a relief to be able to do this without having to run wires everywhere, and to have it automatically adjust to room acoustics. It handles bluetooth as well, USB, hooks up to wifi, and works with smart assistants.

    Top of the line…

This is a powerful and sophisticated sound bar with superb 7.1 sound. It’s Sony’s top-of-the-line sound bar, released just a few months ago, and not only is it Sony’s best, but you won’t find better elsewhere: not the Sonos Arc, nor the Bose 700, nor the LG SN11RG, nor the Samsung HW-Q950A…Honestly, I’ve not listened to all these soundbars. I’ve heard some of them and can compare this Sony A7000 to several, not to all. But I’ve been reading reviews on various hifi and computer hardware sites, and the consensus is that this is the best soundbar made right now against the above competition. I have not heard the Sennheiser Ambeo soundbar, nor have I read any comparison between the Ambeo and the Sony A7000. The Ambeo looks like a monster–and is priced accordingly. I have great respect for Sennheiser and the Ambeo may be the one soundbar to have clearly better sound than this Sony. But it’s a 5.1 soundbar and lacks a number of the hardware features of the Sony even as it is filled with huge speakers. Some of what distinguishes this soundbar from the competition has nothing to do with sound–not that the sound is deficient, it’s brilliant, powerful and clear. But the A7000 is top-of-the-line not just in sound, but in hardware abilities as well. The A7000 has dual HDMI input ports and one output HDMI. You can use the soundbar as the first step in your chain from the HDMI source, feeding your TV set from the output via passthrough in the soundbar, or you can run your HDMI into the TV and then from the TV output via eARC to the soundbar. One problem you may run into if you have one of the latest Xboxes is that the soundbar doesn’t handle variable refresh rate (VRR) in passthrough mode, so you will need to connect to the TV first from your Xbox and then run from the eARC output in your TV to the the soundbar. In addition, the soundbar is capable of playing and analyzing specific noises to determine acoustic characteristics of your room and auto-adjust the sound for your room’s character. An LED display in the middle of the soundbar displays source information, and the soundbar’s setup is easily accomplished via direction on the TV once it’s plugged in and attached via HDMI.You can attach a USB source to the speaker via the USB-A port to play MP3 or lossless audio files. The soundbar can also work with Spotify Connect, AirPlay, Chromecast, it can receive Bluetooth and it works with Google Home and Amazon Alexa. The A7000’s surround abilities make it a good speaker for Apple Music’s Spatial Audio and for 360 Reality and Dolby Atmos audio systems.Further hardware inputs include optical, 3.5mm analogue (not RCA, just stereo mini-plug) and USB-A. Also included in the box are an HDMI cable, a remote and wall-mount brackets and screws. Finally, the matching woofer and wireless back speakers from Sony would make this an even more awesome addition to your living room. If you’re using this primarily for audio rather than gaming or moves, you can forego the back speakers but you will still want the woofer. The soundbar automatically recognizes woofer and back speakers and configures itself accordingly.

Pricey, but unparalleled performance. Still prefer my Sonos smart speaker setup

The media could not be loaded.

Dad retired a couple months ago and recently completed his move close to my home. With that, my brothers and I surprised him with a heavy retirement gift: a 65″ Sony A90J top-of-the-line TV and this HT-A7000 soundbar. He worked very hard for us his entire life, and it was only fair to give him something to enjoy retirement with at his new home. The Sony TV itself is a technological marvel — and frankly, I am quite jealous that he got one as it leaves my Samsung TV in the dust. Its screen itself is the speaker and sounds amazingly good, but having a dedicated soundbar and surround sound system just kicks it up a large notch. That is exactly why I had added a Sonos system to my home with the Soundbar (later replaced by the Arc), Sub, and two rear speakers. How did the Sony HT-A7000 compare?PROS- Easy installation and hookup– Be sure to connect the eARC from the soundbar to the TV’s eARC port (if supported)— Sony’s TV detected the soundbar and seamlessly switched between TV speaker and soundbar output— Connect XBox or Playstation to one or both HDMI In ports on the soundbar- 7.1.2 channel output is amazing and surprisingly sounds realistic (be sure to have the soundbar go through an environmental calibration first so it is set up right for the room)– Bass was deep (neighbor actually came by as he wanted to see the cool setup)– Voices were clear– Music felt immersive– Gaming performance was lag free with a couple games I tested. Honestly, I was floored while running and driving around!- Could easily handle 8K 120Hz- Multiple voice assistant and input options- Direct connection to the Internet to stream Spotify, etc.- Touch-sensitive controls (Power, Volume, etc)- Messages displayed via LED lights at the front of the soundbarCONS- Top glass surface is a fingerprint magnet- Very expensive- Very wide footprint- Remote control seemed a bit laggy- Built-in subwoofer does not compare to my Sonos Sub- Does not connect to other components (ie. rear sub or speakers) wirelessly like Sonos does- Does not come with an app to play various sound sources like Sonos doesIn the end, the sound is AMAZINGLY good. Seriously good. Worth the price? Not for me. I prefer the Sonos ecosystem for a whole-house setup, app control, and other smart functions. Could the Sonos be configured to sound as good as the Sony? Yes, but for a much higher price when you add all the various components together. For the audiophile, this Sony soundbar is a seriously good investment with some convincing surround sound effects and heart-pounding bass during action sequences and games. Paired with a Sony TV, it works very well with nearly plug-and-play setup.Happy retirement, dad! Thanks for having taken care of us!

    Impressive

Our only experience with sound bars is a $40 one we got many Christmases ago, so we were ready to be wowed by this. My husband was especially excited by the “Dolby Atmos” feature, which he excitedly explained to me a few times. The sound bar comes ready to use, it auto-calibrates and is basically just plug and go, if so desired. The sample sounds it makes was very impressive and made me realize why my husband was so excited for Dolby Atmos, it is almost like having surround sound without actually having speakers set up all around you.Mounting it was pain free as it comes with a paper template, allowing you to get the perfect location in one try (yay no extra accidental holes on the walls!). It only comes with two brackets despite the bar being big and heavy, my husband is admittedly paranoid that it wont hold and that either the brackets will fail or the sound bar itself will buckle under its own weight, but its been up for a few weeks now and its fine. He does wish it came with a middle bracket though. Our tv only has an ARC port, no eARC so I guess we cant get the true Atmos experience (which means my husband is now trying to convince the tv we bought a year or two ago is now obsolete), but the bar does have a pass through, so we can connect our video game consoles directly to one of the bar’s HDMI ports and get Atmos that way. It even autodetects the xbox when its on, via choosing the bar’s HDMI on our Roku menu. Otherwise, the remote can also manually select it if you lack a smart tv.The remote allows for some optimized sound options, like music, voice mode, etc. Voice mode was a noticeable change as it did seem to make a lot of dialogue more crisp and clear, but music mode was a bit of a disappointment with just the sound bar (I imagine adding some of the sub woofers would make a difference in that area).Overall we are decently impressed with this bar, it is above and beyond better than our previous sound bar to be sure. My husband is trying to convince me that we should get the sub woofer to complete the experience, and/or a more supported tv, but we’ll see.

    Awesome soundbar!!

This thing is a beast!! It does have a large footprint but it does a very good job at providing full room sound. Music is very very good as well. Had zero issues connecting to my Sony tv or pairing to my phone for Bluetooth. I also paired this with the optional sub and rear speakers to turn this into a very good surround system with a smaller footprint overall. I purchased this and the additional speakers refurbished/used to help keep the cost down. Roughly half off. They all arrived in perfect condition. So this is definitely worth looking at if you can get this Amazon renewed or refurbished to keep the price more reasonable.

Known Issues with this Model – when you get one that works its great . . . .

But be prepared to return one or two to get a working one – do a search on this model and “hangs at hello” . . . basically the unit continually hangs and reboots interrupting the programming. Sony fix is to hard boot it returning everything to default and going through setup again. When that doesn’t work solution is to send it back for repair. It does sound nice when working but not sure worth the effort.

Dissatisfied, especially for the price point

I’ll start off by saying I am a fan of Sony and have been for many years. But this was a disappointing product for me.I have an 8 year old LG soundbar that I was going to replace with this one. When I got it in, I was expecting a simple plug it in and get it right up and going. Whatever the reason may be, that was not the case. The soundbar struggled to connect and play. Was finally able to get it going and then disappointed in the sound. The volume just wasn’t very loud unless turned way up. Even then it’s not like you could really tell it was supposed to be surround sound or atmos. I honestly couldn’t tell much of a difference between it and my old middle of the road LG. So I sadly returned it because performance was not there for the price point.

I really like it but there is a problem that you need to know with it!

When I bought it everything worked fine for a while. But in a few weeks, the DVR that I use couldn’t connect it. No luck so I got it replaced – what a big hassle. The new one worked fine but when the new automatic upgrade software, the DVR couldn’t work again just like it did with the first one. I called Sony, told them the problem but they didn’t know what was wrong. Shoot! I did everything trying to solve it and eventually I DID figure it out! The HDMI jack that comes with it is the problem. I used an HDMI jack that I had with me. Sony needs to get this solved so you won’t have the same problem if you buy one. I don’t have to get it replaced again after all. 😁

The sound is amazing, if you can get the AV synch to work

I love everything about this sound bar except the audio synch. I got the 300 watt sub, and the surround and it is amazing. The problem is it randomly has issues with audio synch. Depending on what I am watching, The sound will come about 1/4 second after the lips move. I am sure I will eventually fix it, but everything I have tried so far has not worked. Sometimes it is perfect, other times it is way off and annoying. I am using it on a Sony Bravia TV so I don’t see why there would be an issue. I am watching youtube tv which is a google product. The TV is running on android. I am not sure what the issue is. It happens on HBO max etc as well.Restarting everything does not help, turning off synch or Arc settings not helping. I am sure I will work it out, but this is a hassle I should not have to deal with after paying over 5 grand for a sound system and tv, that are all in the same product family.

    comparable features, ridiculously-priced

Pros: all the high-end audio gimmicks you could ask for. It does what it says it does. plenty of headroom with the 500W max power.Cons: for the price, NOT particularly impressive. Best application probably designed to include rear speakers and sub. Built-in ‘subwoofer’ is anemic, but it’s there… Absolutely PROPRIETARY connectivity. You cannot pair non-recommended Sony-brand optional speakers according to the documentation. Though the unit i received was clean, the manufacturer packaging was not sealed and clean film was already removed from the unit. I’m guessing Amazon sent me a demo or a very clean returned item–not cool.Suggest: Room placement is important for sound reflections.

The speaker no longer functions after one month of use thus why I am rating it a one star.Likes (for when it worked…)* Great sound quality out of such a small device. Great until it wasnt

I really enjoyed this soundbar out of the box. Sounds fantastic and covered all I wanted for my apartment. Great for movies, gaming and music. The issue with this product is after about a month of working it suddenly stopped working. The soundbar remains stuck on frozen and after scouring all of the troubleshooting threads available I’ve had no luck and seems others may be in the same boat. If this was a cheap soundbar it would be one thing, but for the flagship model I’m very disappointed. Don’t want to have to go through the process of shipping it back but it seems I am at that point. Bummer as it was great product until it wasn’t.

For how expensive it is, Sony could have at least made an app or given you the ability to adjust the EQ on it.Let me save you time and money, the Sonos Arc sounds WAY better, especially if you want to listen to music and watch movies, etc., much more clarity. Listening to anything on this sounds like some one is talking to you with your head in a garbage can.
