    Great little camera

I purchased to see if I’d like taking underwater pictures while scuba diving. It took me a few dives get it down, but it was ultimately easy and took fairly good pictures and videos up to 90 feet! Got a small amount of water in the housing on my first dive although I had it correctly closed as shown. It dried out overnight and worked well on my next dive. By dive 6, the housing completely flooded and the camera no longer worked. When I got home I reached out to AKASO, who responded immediately and suggested several steps to take. After trying everything suggested, they simply replaced my camera! Great little camera, great price for a starter camera, and super customer service!Highly recommend and cannot wait to try again on my next dive and on my road cycling events. Only wish they offered filters for correcting colors during diving.

Impressive Value and Video Quality – Perfect for Beginners!

I recently purchased the Akaso Brave 4 action camera, and I must say it has exceeded my expectations, especially considering its price point. This camera delivers remarkable value and is an ideal choice for beginners. The standout feature for me has been the video quality. The Akaso Brave 4 captures videos that are better than what I expected, especially given its affordability. The footage is clear, sharp, and vivid, making it perfect for capturing those action-packed moments during outdoor activities. One minor observation is that objects might appear slightly farther away than they actually are in the footage. However, this doesn’t significantly detract from the overall video quality, and it’s a minor trade-off considering the camera’s price.Ease of use is another strong point of this camera. It’s designed with beginners in mind, and I found it incredibly user-friendly. The menu is intuitive, and the touchscreen is responsive, allowing for quick adjustments and mode changes.Durability is a must for any action camera, and the Akaso Brave 4 doesn’t disappoint. It feels robust and well-built, ready to withstand the rigors of outdoor adventures. The included waterproof case adds an extra layer of protection, making it suitable for underwater use as well.In summary, the Akaso Brave 4 offers impressive value, with video quality that exceeds expectations, ease of use, and durability suitable for beginners and seasoned adventurers alike. If you’re looking for an affordable action camera that delivers quality footage and can handle the challenges of outdoor activities, the Akaso Brave 4 is a solid choice. I’m delighted with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking to capture their adventures without breaking the bank.

Pretty good camera at a reasonable cost for the casual user

I also own an Akaso EK 7000 model so it’s safe to say I liked that camera enough to buy this model. I bought it several years ago and is still working fine tho the batteries don’t last as long as they used to. Replacement batteries are available to purchase and it seems reasonable to me that the batteries after years of use lose their ability to hold a charge. The remote is useful and works properly.Pros: As I said it takes quality pictures and videos. It’s pretty easy to use but comes with no instructions. You need to download them, not a big deal. And, with them, the camera is pretty easy to set up and use. For video, it offers a lot of choices for resolution and other settings. It comes with a decent amount of mounts and attachments (caveats below). All in all, a pretty good alternative for the casual user especially compared to the way more expensive GoPro and other high-end cameras. I have not used this camera underwater but I have used the EK7000 a few times and had no problems with leaks. The cases are similar so I have no reason to believe this one won’t be waterproof.Cons: While there is an ample supply of different mounts, some of them are not that good and the hard smooth plastic they are made of makes it difficult to tighten them enough so they don’t stay in place especially if you’re, for instance mounting them on something that gets jostled a lot, like a bicycle. (See below.) The handles for tightening the mounts are small which means I have to use a small screwdriver to tighten them enough to keep them in place. That’s not terrible but it does make switching between mounts a bit of a hassle. I mainly use the camera on my bike and the bike mount is perhaps the worst of all. Firstly, it’s too small to fit around your average handle bars. Tightening the screws puts a lot of pressure on the mount and I could see them snapping if you tightened them too much. I could not tighten them enough to get them from swing back and forth. I had to jerryrig the mounts for both the EK7000 and this camera using rubber gaskets (I used some from an old bike headlight.) and some thick double-sided, foam mounting tape. (The accessories that came with both cameras are identical, except for the underwater case which differs only to adapt for the different placement of some of the cameras’ buttons.) Including some sizing gaskets/rubber strips as adapters would help solve the bike mounting problem But another thing about it is that the mount for the bike, without a go-between adapter (included) leaves the camera facing to the side of the bike, not facing forward. This is another design flaw I can’t figure out. Also of note: I actually like the design of the EK7000 better! They removed a flashing recording button on the top of the EK7000 to screen on the back of the Brave 4. The EK 7000 also showed the recording status on the back screen so I guess the top light was redundant but it made it MUCH easier to tell that the camera is recording while riding a bike (or quickly from a distance) when that large flashing red light was on the top and I could just look down. Now, I have to get off the bike and check the back of the Brave 4 to make sure that the camera has not stopped recording. (ie: out of battery power or recoding space, wherein the camera turns off) There’s an LED type screen on the front of the Brave 4 that I can’t figure out the purpose for. The same info it displays is on the back screen and I don’t see the need for the front screen. I don’t know, maybe I’m missing something there. I purchased the Brave 4 instead of another EK7000 because, 1) I thought it would be an improved model and indeed, some of the functions are, and 2) because the Brave comes with the mounting attachments (however flawed) included. (There are not a lot of other options when looking for alternatives. Though they come under other brand names the different packages offered on Amazon all look mysteriously similar.) When I purchased the EK 7000, it also came with all the mounts included. But now it seems it doesn’t and they need to be purchased separately. The price of the Brave 4 with the attachments was just a few dollars more that buying the EK 7000 plus the mounting accessories separately so I figured, what the heck, I’ll go for the Brave 4. In retrospect, I could have saved a few bucks and been just as happy buying another, less expensive EK7000 and the mounts separately.

Detailed analysis & tips, during my trip in Hawaii!

The media could not be loaded.

Incredible value for the money.Great quality videos, acceptable photos, fully waterproof, good menu, plenty of accessories.** Amazon compressed the video. It looks awesome on my computer **Why did I choose the Akaso Brave?1. Akaso has a better website (and hopefully support/warranty) compared other action cams I see on Amazon.2. Olympus Tough TG-5 (amazing camera) was outside my budget.3. GoPro Hero was way outside my budget.4. Most waterproof cameras under $400 are mixed with bad reviews indicating leakage. This camera is with me & the wife right now in Hawaii celebrating our ten year anniversary! It has done a great job across several hours of salt water snorkeling, exploring beautiful pools, and adventuring in bamboo forests. The wireless was relatively straightforward so I could transfer the photos and videos to my iPhone easily. Here’s some extra stuff I bought:1. Flow by microJib … floating, extendable handle. Worth every penny. Best one I could find.https://www.amazon.com/Flow-MicroJib-Waterproof-Extendable-Floating/dp/B01MXHWWUA2. Shoot waterproof diving light (works great; I have not submerged more than 5 feet underwater)3. Samsung EVO 32GB microSD4. Tekcam waterproof case (an extra, just in case, have not yet tested)5. Extra batteries (two original batteries have each given me about 40 minutes of good use so far, so I have not tested new batteries)When I need it handy, I store the Flow handle, my flash, and action cam (all connected ready to go) inside of two big socks. What don’t I like about this camera?1. No lens protector 🙁 so be careful to store your plastic waterproof case in a sock!2. No ability to buy extra cases from the manufacturer (had to by 3rd party).3. Included Remote control is not waterproof/submersible; there is no way to buy replacements from manufacturer.4. Not quite the same quality as GoPro or Olympus TG-5 (but close for most people, and costs much less).5. Photos: not nearly the same quality as iPhone or Samsung Android, but still acceptable.6. Less support, no user manual, etc. Here are some tips (for most people):1. See my attached photo for how to insert microSD.2. The screen will shut off to save battery. Tap the down button to turn it back on. (when snorkeling, for example)3. When in video recording mode, tap the down arrow to turn microphone on or off.4. In the menu, 1080 30 fps is a great high-quality video choice.5. In the menu, 5M or 8M will be decent for images/photos, for most people. (Larger values increase the storage size & print size).6. In the menu, turn OFF the loop recording, date stamp, motion detection, and beep sound. (for most people)7. In the menu, set Auto Off to 10 minutes (for snorkeling/ adventuring).8. In the menu, set Quality to fine.9. In the menu, play around with Angle. Wider angles can be more fisheye for objects on the edge, but wide is great for snorkeling.10. Cheap and good for the price

The media could not be loaded.

I used this on my FPV 5” Drone. It is a light camera, and worked great on the drone. It was pretty easy to make a 3d print frame a for it to attach to the drone. The thumb screw that holds the clip to the camera is rather large; Depending on your drone frame, you may need to order a separate thumb screw. The audio definitely is choppy being so close to the drone motors, but it may be the 3d printed frame covering the mic holes. I will fix it and edit in the future if uncovering mic holes fixes recorded audio of motors.Attached is just a snippet of short video I posted elsewhere. I had the Akaso Brave 4 set to 1080p 120fps. However, clipping it on phone dropped it down to 60fps.

    Great Alternative to GoPro

I purchased this product as an alternative to GoPro, as I wanted something to use for snowboarding but didn’t know how serious I was going to be about it and didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on something I don’t end up using. The buttons took a little bit of getting used to, but I am extremely happy with this product. The app has a few kinks, but I love being able to download straight to my phone. I used the camera in 30 degree weather and the battery lasted longer than expected. I also took a few slams with it in it’s waterproof case and it’s extremely durable. The video quality also surprised me, as I’ve even been able to take crisp videos at night. I got this camera bundle on a lightning deal which makes it even better. Overall, I’m extremely pleased with this product and would highly recommend it to others!

Great video quality, bad batteries & wrist remote; generous but mediocre mounting accessories

I purchased this for last ski season but never got to use it. I finally used it for the first time this ski season this past week. All in all, it performed very well, albeit with a few notable problems.First, the good:- The video quality appears excellent. I did not record at full 4k yet, instead opting for slightly smaller files with 2560×1440 resolution. Nonetheless, the video footage captured looks very detailed and sharp, and the colors look very good; the wide dynamic range appears to work well, capturing detail in shadows as well as the bright areas on a sunny ski slope with hard shadows just as effectively as on overcast days with very little available dynamic contrast.- Wifi is a nice feature for dynamically viewing the camera’s feed.- There is a very nice assortment of different mounts to help in achieving the right mounting configuration.- The files captured without any flaws that I’ve noticed so far; no dropped frames or other anomalies, and with no corruption of any kind preventing playback on either the camera or my computer. Now, the not-so-good:- The included pair of batteries don’t last long. Additionally, one of the two batteries inflated its case on its first charge. The included charger also does not turn off the lights when the batteries have reached what I presume to be full charge. I had to simply time them, and upon jostling the charger or removal+reinsertion of the batteries, the light would then change from red to blue. The inflated battery is a safety risk, and barely fit in the camera, but since it was my only choice, I did go ahead and use it, and was able to at least get a bit more footage than if I only relied on the non-inflated battery pack.- It’s a pain to start and stop the video with confidence. The included wrist strap controller has a strap that is too short to be worn over gloves or a coat, and the one that came with my set appears to be non-functional anyway. The battery was nearly dead the first time I used it, but even after swapping with a fresh, identical-type battery, the wrist strap didn’t work for me at all once I was on the ski slopes; I simply left it at the hotel the remainder of my ski trip. This meant I had to remove my helmet (where I had mounted the camera) to view the screen and ensure I had successfully started the video for each run.- Photos had excessive compression or something; I only tried taking actual photographs with this camera a couple of times, but both images came out looking extremely pixelated and with visible artifacts. I would not rely on this for any sort of print-quality photos.- While I listed the wifi feature in the “good” list above, it was also bad, as it was a pain to use. I had hoped I’d be able to check via my phone quickly to ensure I had the camera angled correctly, but switching the wifi on to do so was so cumbersome that I didn’t bother. Also, the wifi is extremely slow for transferring the video. Obviously not the ideal way to transfer the large files, but I had forgotten my card reader and figured I’d try doing it wirelessly. It took an hour to transfer about 3 GB. Obviously it’s running with a pretty slow wifi protocol.- It was difficult to reliably stop and turn off the camera without looking at it. Hitting either the power or video start/stop button once only illuminates the screen. I found I had to hit the button once, then press and hold the power button again to actually succeed at turning the camera off to save battery during the ski lift rides where I didn’t dare remove my helmet.- Some of the included mounts have insufficient-length screw handles, such that the screw handle itself impacted the bottom of the camera case while trying to tighten it. Also, the mount I decided to use with my helmet-mounted clip did not stay as snug in the clip as I would have expected, so there was some movement in it. Luckily it didn’t cause too much jitter in my video as my helmet wasn’t vibrating that much due to the shock absorption provided by my neck ;)- It would be nice if a curved mounting clip were included; I purchased one separately to affix to my helmet.- All the footage I took on my 3rd and 4th days of my trip had date modified stamps on the files for the year 2000; somehow, my settings on the camera had been lost. I don’t know if it was because my batteries died too early in the day during day 2, or because perhaps I left the batteries out of the camera too long while charging both simultaneously that evening. Either way, it would be nice if the chosen date/time settings would not have been lost so easily. At least it didn’t appear to lose my other settings.- The screen interface was a bit busy, and I had a little difficulty easily seeing that I’d successfully started the video recording on the first day; I mistakenly thought the constant ticking clock on the lower right was the indicator that the video was running, when it was actually another clock that is in the upper right corner. I’m not sure why the current time (what I realized was counting by, to the second, in the lower right corner) is even shown on the interface at all; it seems unnecessary and distracting.I know I have far more negatives than positives, but, other than the blown-up battery and the non-functional wrist remote, most everything is minor and, in my opinion, not a show-stopper when you’re looking to buy a more budget-friendly camera such as this one. The overall price/performance is very good. Hopefully my experience with the blown up battery from the get-go and the dysfunctional remote is not common.

    Works great

Unit works well so far. I’m using it to capture driving videos of scenic areas in my travels as a truck driver. Love the ease of use and quality for the price point. Way better price to quality then spending the money on the big name brands. Probably not quite as high quality of a video result as the big brands but really darn close for a fraction of cost.

Great price for all that’s included

I wanted to surprise my son with an alternative (way cheaper) version of a “GoPro” camera. I couldn’t bring myself to spent $200+ on something a 10 year old can very easily lose. We do a lot of finishing during the spring/summer and a friend of mine had given my son a kayak. That being said, I wanted to find him a camera that was affordable, waterproof but also had decent picture/video quality. This camera has all that AND MORE! It came with quite a few options for different kinds of mounting, 2 batteries so one can always be ready on standby, waterproof casing and even a remote to quickly control the camera. If you’re considering buying this BUY A MICRO SD card, it doesn’t come with it and you can’t so much as take a picture without one.I purchased this during the winter months so we haven’t yet been able to test how long the battery lasts but I don’t see us running into any problems. After purchasing there’s a 12 month warranty. Upon opening the box there’s also an option for a FREE 24 month warranty with the company (Akaso).I’ll do my best and try remembering to write another review once we get back on the water. Spring is around the corner and he might be joining his momma (me) on some fishing tournaments this year 🙃Hope this helps!

Haven’t used yet but look solid

Very solid unit. I expect it to work as well as competition based on quality “feel”.It comes with two batteries and charger as well as accessories seen(and listed in description). It will take a while to sort out getting the camera loose and figuring out what parts do what, but you can download the manual while your batteries are charging. Getting the accessory kit is well worth it. What is pictured comes with the camera.I’ll update after I have played a bit more with it. It arrived as promised and I am very pleased .When you get the package, don’t open from the flap at the end where the camera is visible. It’s totally glued down and if you ever needed to return, you have destroyed the package . Open the OTHER end, which opens easily and just pull box with accessories and camera out. I had carefully cut the flaps at the other end before I figured out what the issue was. LOL.Also, I paid full price and no promo considerations for review. (I have flooded two cameras on scuba dived in the past. I have a good sense of solid housing and attachments. As mentioned, this far, no issues )

    Just getting started

I chose this camera to get started making my own fishing and camping trips. I’m disabled (C5-C6) quadriplegic and I hope to use them as a way to show that living life after a catastrophic injury isn’t as bad as many think. Also, other videos that show ways to be and live as independently as possible. I could use my phone to get some videos, but I believe that having the options that these cams can show so much more and not have to worry about breaking a $700.00 dollar plus phone. I’m still learning how to use this Action Camera since its options are limitless. The only problems I’ve had with it are the small buttons and how quickly you need to be able to depress them. With my limited use of my hands, it’s a challenge. The tiny flash card is only 64GB and videos fill them up fast. Having several on hand is a good idea. When I was going through the specifications as far as what size flash cards that can be used by this Brave 4 wasn’t clear or I overlooked it and ordered a 256GB card thinking it would give me more room for any number of videos without having to keep changing them while outdoors and the possibility that I would drop one and not be able to find it.The company’s website did have all the answers to the questions I had to get it set up quickly.

It is simply a better camera at a better deal. I will never go to a GoPro again.

    Amazing, tiny action camera

I was astounded by the tiny size of the Akaso camera, half the size of a GoPro and minuscule next to my point-and-shoot and DSLR conventional cameras. Then again, considering what is in a cell phone these days, it makes sense that a powerful camera can be the size of a matchbox. Now I wonder why regular cameras are so big.Image quality is very good, as is the image (motion) stabilization. The only downside is there is no way to fit a filter over the lens (I love polarizing filters). Like other action cameras, it starts up in the ultrawide mode and you need to zoom it to 1:1 or magnified setting. The camera has only four buttons, so each button serves multiple functions. It takes getting used to setting the zoom with a button that also changes other settings depending on how long you hold it.The selection of accessories that come with the camera is very good, including a waterproof case, a second battery and handlebar and helmet mounts. It can use GoPro accessories, which vastly expands the options for the Asako. I bought a supplemental accessories kit which mostly was overkill. The camera is so small that hand holding it doesn’t work well. I normally have it mounted on a 6″ tripod and hand hold the camera by the tripod. The supplemental kit includes a suction mount convenient for mounting on a car’s dashboard, either to shoot the driver or as a dashcam. It’s truly versatile for making YouTube videos.Sound quality is impressive for the built-in microphone. The camera also accepts an external mic, although I haven’t done that yet. It can feed over wifi, so it could serve for Zoom meetings. Because the camera is all digital and doesn’t have mechanical moving parts to eat up power, the battery can last me the entire day.The price attracted me away from a GoPro. After six months of use, I am very glad to have gotten the Akaso.

Directions for pairing were like a bad translation of North Korean to English.

The directions for pairing this AKASO Brave 4 4K30fps 20MP WiFi Action Camera with a smartphone were written like a bad translation from North Korean to English, and the provided Wi-Fi Password was incorrect, fortunately, I guessed that adding a “0” (zero) was a good idea….instead of the provided 12345789 which did not work, I entered 123457890. Also, the instructions indicated the WRONG button to press on the camera to turn Wi-Fi to ON. I will say that the image quality is decent and there are many accessories for attaching to various devices like a bicycle handle, helmet, tripod, etc., and the underwater case seems decent (have not used it yet, may be useful to protect the camera in dirty environments like when attached to an RC car).Coming with two rechargeable batteries and a dual charger, all not bad for a sub-$100 price.Recommend that the instructions be upgraded/re-written to:-Download and install the AKASO APP, launch it then “kill it”.-On the Action Camera, turn power ON, and Long Press OK to turn on Wi-Fi (will see orange light next to button).-Go to Smartphone settings, Connections, Wi-Fi, select the AKASO device and enter the provided password of 12345789…if that does not work try 12345890.-Launch App and navigate to get past accepting licensee agreement, registering etc.-Figure the rest out!

    An amateur’s action camera

Recently purchased this product for an extended trip to Bali. I had rented GoPros for previous shorter trips, and based on reviews, this product would suit my needs without forking out for the more expensive GoPro. This camera worked perfectly for my trip! No, it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of a GoPro. Yes, sometimes it would get foggy in high-humidity situations (we solved that with a silica packet). But if you’re looking for an action camera to take snorkeling, river rafting, or other excursions when you don’t want to bring your phone, this camera is a great solution at an affordable price. A star off as the case did fog up rather easily, and the picture quality suffered as a result, but overall happy with this purchase.

A great camera with a few user-friendliness issues

I’ll be right up front – Akaso reimbursed me for my purchase as payment for testing and reviewing this camera. I’ve made every effort to make this an objective, honest review. I have been an amateur photographer for 40 years and worked professionally for a number of years as a human factors researcher and designer with Bell Telephone Laboratories, and have been giving Akaso feedback on the user interface of this camera. I own three of these cameras,, starting with the 5000 model, then the 7000 model, and now this Brave 4 model. This is by far the best model of the three. though the user interface needs work. Thus the four stars instead of five.Akaso has been responsive to my evaluations, and I have decided to present an abbreviated overview of the camera here plus photographs with technical details on settings and ways to make corrections to the images if you wish.I generally correct the lighting (levels) because I always shoot with the exposure value (EV) turned down a stop or two. However, often the images are so good, you may not want to correct them at all. I’ll start with the good stuff because the bottom line is that this is a fantastic little camera.I”ve concentrated on still photos because all three of the Akaso cameras produce outstanding videos. If you would like to read a good review of the video function, here’s a link: https://prodrenalin.com/review-akasa-brave-4-action-camera/ . The stills show a remarkable improvement with the Brave 4 and its Sony chip. Below are a number of examples I shot with permission in gallery store in central PA. Most are inside, some outside. I’ll upload more later. I’ve found that to get the best images, choose the settings as follows: gyroscope on, WDR off, angle as you like, there is less distortion with the smaller angles, special effects off because special effects usually add a computerized aspect to the images, though I have not tested it in this camera yet, image size maximum if you want all the pixels and information that the camera produces, quality fine, sharpness off because you don’t need it, white balance auto because auto work great, color I have not tested, ISO should be set as low as you can get away with because 400 gets grainy – the set I’m uploading today has an ISO between 100 and 200, EV (exposure value) can be set at a negative 1/3 or one stop lower to get the best color – I use minus 1/3 (but be aware that reducing the EV means the levels probably have to be corrected later on), thrun antishake on and you are ready to roll.Take your photos from at least 4+ feet away. While the camera has an outstanding depth of field, it does not do well with closeups. It also will occasionally zoom to 5x – a new feature – but it is not optical zoom, it’s a digital zoom so the zoomed image is only slightly better than cropping a non-zoomed image. Try to keep the camera parallel to the ground to reduce distortion. You can also avoid distorting the image by making sure that major horizontal objects in the scene are also horizontal and straight in your display. If they are curved, you are tilting the camera. Don’t do that. Hold the camera as still as you can before and after taking the photo until the display information is again printed on the display. That keeps you from moving the camera while the lens is still open. Look for color because this little camera produces absolutely fantastic, realistic colors. Keep your fingers away from the lens because the fish-eye wide angle will photograph anything that’s close to it – the wide angle is 170 degrees wide. The images below were taken inside and out using the setting above. I’ve tried to pair them with the original image from the camera, rotated if necessary. The corrected ones were genrrally corrected in Photoshop Elements or Fastone. Elements has a great distortiion filter, and adjusting levels and white balance is a cinch in either program. I only needed to correct white balance for two images and the correction is very small but obvious. These photos are difficult for any camera because the lighting was a combination of natural light, tungsten, and fluorescent – a hard combo for even the best cameras. This camera shined in this situation. The photos are reduced to about 500 kb. In general, the original images were 5-6 MB, at 72 dpi. According to the charts, that’s enough for at least a 24×36 print. I’ll try to upload different ones with explanations of how the camera was set occasionally, but this set is a pretty good example of what the camera can do. Now I keep it in my car or pocket all the time. Here are the main issues I have with this camera. They don’t outweigh the good features, so don’t let them stop you from purchasing the Brave 4 at this great price. However, this camera would be even better if these items were corrected: (a) the battery door is easily lost and not hinged. I use a piece of scotch tape where the hinge should be to keep from loosing it. (b) the control process is clumsy and hopefully can be improved with a firmware update. I won’t go into detail; you will see what I mean as you click through the order of items (c) there is no really useful user manual. A good one could be done online very easily. (d) the wi-fi is hard to understand and get to work…at least on my devices. Same with the wrist band control, and instructions for both are lacking.Again, none of these things is a deal-breaker at this price. If this camera cost $300 or more, they would be much more of a problem.Make a comment if you have questions, and hopefully it will get sent to me. J

Do yourself a favor and buy a used GoPro or Sony action cam

I wanted to like this camera. And for somebody who isn’t too particular about the video and image quality this might be fine… but I think I just expected too much at this price point… maybe. For just 50% or so more you can get a used GP5 elsewhere. It doesnt come with all the random (junk) attachments, or the remote (but the GP does feature fantastic app connectivity and virtually seamless remote shooting once it boots up and connects, whereas this camera’s app is a joke).Anyway, I’ll try to hit on as much as possible as quickly as possible in this review. Seems to be alot of positive reviews, but I dont understand why, because this camera is acceptable for some tasks… but I think I would have preferred fewer “features” with more quality in the few features left over. For someone that just wants a throwaway camera, this might suffice, but you can get something cheaper with similar features if you are going to throw your money away. This camera is at a price point where its basically more expensive than the ultra basic action cams, but it doesnt really have any increased quality. Supposedly it shoots in 4k and 1440p (no 2.7k). The only true slowmo is in 720p, which sucks all the quality out. Sadly, I’m not sure the HD is actually HD, and the 60 fps settings appear to be somewhat of a joke. While you get 60 fps technically, when you look at the frame by frame it looks more like the every other frame is sort of a copy of the previous frame, just slightly less focused (this was a consistent and strange thing throughout multiple videos in various situations, lighting, and environments). Not sure if it’s some kind of cheating algorithm (resulting in poor 60 fps quality) that doubles 30 fps without actually shooting in 60, or if it’s just really poor quality. You can get some okay stills, but that’s not why you are buying an action cam, right? Also, not sure the 4k is really 4k. The color settings weren’t very good (HDR way overcompensates the white balance (WB) which is pretty normal, but still frustrating because it ruins any chances for saturation balancing in post). The WB controls were fairly crappy. Multiple times I tried shooting inside with the different options “fluorescent, tungsten” (I believe they are called), but it seemed to overcompensate and ruined the quality of my videos. The auto worked okay outside, and the outdoor settings worked alright. The app barely (BARELY!) worked initially… then stopped working at all. I bought this specifically for the app connectivity and I was sorely disappointed. It’s the biggest reason I chose this camera over the many, MANY other options there are available (models and manufacturers). Plus you cannot shoot in anything higher than 1080/60fps using the app. No 4k support even though the camera can supposedly shoot in 4k. Connecting the app also burned up the battery and heated it up considerably. Battery life is decent overall when filming with just the camera (no remote or app). Sharpness adjustment is decent. Timelapse and motion detection worked properly. Really the only two features I can say met expectations. The remote did work, but theres no way to confirm it is shooting without checking the camera, which defeats the purpose of using the remote. Also at times I would get photos when I wanted video, however that could have been my own fault. Not sure. Also more than once I set the camera to shoot in 1440p, but when I went back to check on my footage, it had changed (at some point) to 1080/60fps. Very weird. The display looks fine. The camera itself is very light. The battery slot cover is absurdly cheap and is destined to break/become ineffective because of the poor design (in which it actually detaches from the camera when removed. No hinge or clip to keep it attached to the camera body). Its literally just a little sliver or plastic that clicks into place. There’s no cover for the MicroSD card slot or the ports on the camera itself. I never tried it in water, but the case has a proper gasket and all, so I would expect it to be waterproof. Though the lens cover smudges and scratches extremely easily, so it might not hold up long enough to actually get the shots you want. For an action camera, that isn’t a great thing. Otherwise, it functions okay… the software/chip that runs the camera is okay, but it does have a fair bit of lag between pressing buttons and completing the intended action. The menu is setup poorly and with seemingly little concern for order and/or necessities (things that need adjustment often like WB, Color, exposure, etc, should be easily accessible like resolution is at the top). Playback on the screen is actually pretty decent, and you can fast forward, rewind, go frame by frame, etc. But as a general rule, navigation is clunky and frustrating, even after learning where everything is located. I made the mistake of using an SD card not rated for 4k video at first… definitely get a 4k rated microSD card for the best possible operation (that goes for all 4k cameras). The specs info stated you could do minor editing on the camera, though I did not see any way to do so. Even deleting a video or picture was an exceedingly difficult proposition. Connecting the camera to my computer was met with a few issues including regular disconnections. After I swapped their micro USB cable out with one of my own, I had a better experience with transferring videos, etc… their cable was garbage. The attachments were fine mostly. There are alot of pieces that seem to have redundant purposes… no instructions as to how you should connect them. It’s all just cheap plastic but they worked fine.I’m not sure if I missed anything, but hopefully that covers everything to some extent. Bottom line: I wouldn’t buy again. I waited too long to return mine, so I’m stuck with it. But that being said, I decided to buy a used GoPro5 for not too much more than I paid for this Akaso Brave 4. I love the GP. It does everything I expected and then some. The app is amazing and works perfectly. Only downsides to it are I had to purchase a few more batteries and a charger for it, but ultimately, the extra cost is absolutely worth it. I would urge you to consider a GP or a Sony action cam if you have the means to do it. You’ll be so glad you did. If you get this Akaso cam, theres definitely alot left to be desired, but it’s probably fine for alot of kids or for folks who aren’t totally sure they want or need an action cam. If you want quality and performance though, go for the top brands. And as for me, I guess I’ve got this Brave 4 as a backup/secondary if I need it for something I suppose. Good luck!

Pretty nice cam & at a great price! Recorded & worked well, clear video. Only used one weekend so far. It was -11 outside so the battery didn’t last too long. But we kept the extra battery charging in the ski lodge & just kept swapping them out. This coming weekend, much warmer w/ temps in the mid 30s, so we will see if the warmer temps yield better battery life. But overall so far, fun cam!

Great camera for the price! And I’m only just getting started!

I had the good fortune to have had a wonderful nextdoor neighbor who let me borrow HIS expensive action camera for a ride in an open cockpit plane about a month ago and after seeing the great footage… knew that I had to have one! I read review after review and decided to take a hance on the Asako BRAVE 4 and I am so glad that I did!I cannot believe all the accessories that came with the camera! It was like Christmas had come early! And the clarity of the image and the options to take still photos made this a no-brainer! And did I mention the reviews? 68% of almost 16,000 buyers gave this a 5-star rating!I haven’t really used it for the main reasons that I got it so I may update this review when I find myself at the beach or in the pool (It’s 29 degrees out there so I don’t believe that I’ll be donning a swinsuit anyt time soon!) but taking the videos and photos outside have come out sharp and I DO wish that we could use a larger memory card other than the 64 GB! The TWO batteries and charger (INCLUDED) also make this a great deal in that you have plenty of charge for two memory cards if you wish to really go whole hog with the images and recording! If you’re even considering an option to the “other” camera and would like a less-expensive alternative… please. please give the Asako line of cameras a try! I don’t think that you will be disappointed! I know that I wasn’t! Now stop reading and go buy it and start enjoying!!

    Great camera for budget vloggers

I love this camera! It has a lot of features in a small package. I bought this so I didn’t have to use my cell phone and it has surpassed my expectations. I recommend this camera to anyone starting out vlogging. And I will buy another one pretty soon.

    Great bang for the buck

So far, so good. Can’t beat the features for the price. Former Go-Pro owner. Just couldn’t justify the price of getting another, newer Go-Pro. This one fits the bill nicely. Will update the review once I’ve had the chance to play with the camera some more.

    Universal mounts and file storage

The media could not be loaded.

I’m impressed with the quality! In fact I forgot I hadn’t removed the plastic film cover before I shot these clips. Neither the helmet strap nor the clip worked for us as equestrians so the videos were shot while clipped to my horse’s browband (bridle). Hence all the rhythmic movement. After purchasing a better card reader I was able to grab the files onto my iPad without having to use the app. The app’s download process was too slow. The mounting set up fits with aftermarket kits intended for GoPro owners. so the sky’s the limit for what’s available cheap. It comes with nice enough mount options but the helmet strap is made for vented bicycle helmets and did not make it around our riding helmets. We didn’t try adhering the helmet mount since our helmets have to be immaculate for showing and foxhunting. I’m very pleased with the quality and am confident video filmed from my helmet will have a lot less movement. For the price of a single GoPro I can buy a few of these so my friends and I can take videos of each other while galloping through the woods on horseback. You can sign up for a 24 month warranty. The waterproof case has a good heft to it and the seal appears sufficient. I’d definitely recommend this to my friends.

    THIS IS A SOLID CAMERA

I wanted a go pro or similar type camera that i can take pictures and videos with. The GoPros are ridiculous expensive when it comes to pricing and in all honesty I’m not into filming all my endeavors that much anyway. not to mention spending hours and hours, editing video to make cool videos that your friends and family will surely get tired of sooner or later.I just wanted a nice little camera that i could mount if i wanted to and play around with but now go knee deep in dept over. This Asako Camera is super affordable, especially for it being able to shoot in 4k. This camera has wifi capabilities so you can connect it with your phone and control some of the features from your phone. It also has micro usb slots and the necessary wires to connect it with your computer for easy download of pictures and videos. I have a Mac and it worked really well with it. the camera allows you to choose from many different video options including 4k, 1080p, 720, and so forth and has a 20mp camera that you can actually change light and aperture settings on and take awesome night shots with. It comes with so many accessories that i don’t even know what all of them do, but it’s nice you don’t have to pay even more for accessories. it comes with 2 batteries and each are supposed to last 90 min each. I don’t know if that is true because i have not had the camera running 90 min strait, but i will tell you that I took a bike ride the other day which was about 65 to 70 min in length and filmed the entire bike ride beginning to end, and there were still plenty of battery left so I don’t doubt it will last 90 min. It comes with a battery charging device so you don’t have to use the camera itself to charge the battery. When it comes to water proof i can’t speak to that as i don’t do anything or need to do anything submerged or that would put the camera in harms way. I can tell you that one of my bike rides it started to downpour on me while i was in the middle, and when i got home and took it out of the case it was dry as a bone. I’m sure that is a lot different than submerging it though. It is a solid camera that takes really good still photos and the video quality is amazing. I think you will be totally shocked with how far your money goes with this camera. I know i was. At best i was hoping for a camera that i didn’t have to spend a ton of money of video taping things that might get the camera busted anyway. then your out a lot of money for nothing. I ended up getting a really great 4k camera at a great price. I would totally recommend anyone try this camera before you go out and spends upwards of hundreds and hundreds of dollars on similar devices. If you don’t like the quality then return it and by the 500 hundred dollar camera and see if it is leaps and bounds better. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I know i was!!FIRST WAS THE GOOD NOW HERE’S THE BAD LOLThe only thing that i have or had a problem with, was getting the camera to link up with my phone initially. For some reason the wifi wouldn’t recognize my phone and vice versa. I was very frustrated as it took me about a half an hour tinkering with it for it to finally work. Now that my phone and camera recognize each other it syncs up very quickly, but initially it was frustrating. It also does not come with a whole lot of instructions, and the instructions that are with it are minimal. They rely on you going to their website to download a user manuaL which kind of annoys me when companies do that. but other than those 2 things i say it’s an amazing camera at one heck of a price.

My First Action Camera: An Awesome Surprise!

I had been holding off with purchasing an action camera until now, largely for two reasons: the picture quality / specs were comparable to those of my phone camera, and they were very expensive, even considering the idea of being water proof. Thanks to the alternative I found with this brand, I’ve discovered a great camera that really exceeds the specs of the GoPros that I’ve read. And, it lists just at the top end of what I am comfortable paying. To clarify, 20 MP is a dramatic improvement in detail over my 13 MP phone, or our 16 MP Kodak. The 4K video is likewise a vast improvement over our other cameras. It is worth noting that we do not own high end cameras in general, as they are well outside of our budget, so the depth available to us provides challenges when conditions aren’t perfect. So the differences in image quality are absolutely visible under the same conditions.Notably, the video quality settings I have tested so far are 4K and 1080P (which I believe is “HD”). There are a few other settings for quality, and the balance is really a trade-off between frame rate and image quality. At 4K, the frame rate maximum is 24fps. At 1080P the maximum is 60fps. The greater frame-rate can be useful in the case of converting existing regular speed footage to a slower playback rate. Also notable, I haven’t discovered a setting that is explicitly described as “slow motion”, so this effect may be exclusively relegated to the editor’s station. As this is my first action camera, I didn’t know exactly what to expect. It surprised me how very light weight and small the camera body really is. I was very apprehensive about testing its waterproof casing, but I did, and it definitely is.Additionally, I really appreciate the ability to use my phone as a remote viewfinder, and remote trigger.Okay, that’s the gushing praise for the product. The things that I encountered that seemed to be less “gush-worthy” are a few:First (and I accept this as typical of the form), there isn’t a “macro” setting. This means that this camera is really intended to capture a wide field of view in good detail. It doesn’t really have the ability to capture those intimately close-up images that a macro lens / setting would assist. The depth of field is broad, and it captures images sharply both near and relatively distant, but a macro setting would improve the performance up close.Additionally, the aspect of the images are square. I haven’t yet found a setting with which the aspect can be adjusted, and with modern monitors / televisions emphasizing ratios like 16:9 (not square in any case), the result is a video / photo with broad black stripes on either side when viewed on such a monitor. Moreover, the manual is fairly explicit in contrast with the other manuals for similar cameras I purchased very shortly after this one. But, the thing it really lacks are in-depth descriptions of the specs of the camera. Items like focal point measurements can be useful. It is also pretty common for the “time-lapse” setting to have its greatest interval be limited to 5 seconds. I would actually love to see longer intervals become available, up to as much as 24 hours. The idea being that it would be useful to monitor things like plant development at consistent times of day / lighting conditions. The size and versatility of this camera’s form would lend itself quite readily to such applications. So the summary is this:Pros-Good quality imagery for the priceSmall and lightweightWaterproof (with the included casing)InexpensiveManual is more explicit than other brands for similar productCons (or not-so-pro)Square aspect videoMissing camera specs in manualShort interval limitation for time-lapse setting.Overall, I’m very pleased with this camera.

    Needs “Recording” indicator on remote

We haven’t had this long, but immediately ran into problems with knowing when it is and isn’t recording. The remote is potentially handy but without an indicator for when video is recording, it’s not reliable. Too often we thought we’d turned it ON when we’d actually turned it OFF.Also, having to remove four screws to replace the remote battery is poor design, there’s no reason there couldn’t be a slide cover like most other such accessories. The camera itself seems to work well, stabilization is good, zoom seems OK, but the interface is not especially intuitive. ***Instructions are incorrect about how to leave playback mode!I made a cheat sheet to remember how it operates. Akaso should include one. It just needs to read:Akaso Cheat SheetTurn ON/OFF: press and hold front button 3 secTake Video/Photo: press TOP buttonPlayback [when ON]: Press side UP button to enter playback mode Select video(photo) with up/down, top [OK] to play EXIT playback: press front [MODE] button TWICEDelete [when ON in Playback]: Press and hold OK button Select YES or NO with side [up/down] buttons Press top [OK] to accept selectionChange Video/Photo modes: press front button to cycle through 5 modesOf course, the price is awesome so we’ll see if we can live with these downsides, which seem no better on the GoPro.
