    Slow to wake from sleep

This computer is stable and fast enough for my needs, but it might be the slowest I have ever experienced when waking up. I never know whether I need to reboot or take a nap… 😂. But it was affordable.

An extremely annoying and poorly made computer

The most annoying thing about the computer is the constant humming or buzzing that changes intensity from one minute to the other. If you are sensitive to sound this computer is not for you. I’ve had this computer for about two weeks and the sound has nearly driven me insane. I’ve tried everything to figure out what it could be, the fan, the gpu, the psu, the hdd. I cant figure it out.As well, the psu does not fit well in the tower and the power cord does not fit well into the ports, making it loose. Naturally, if you move the cord slightly your computer will lose power. For some reason I think the computer has display or memory issues because sometimes the screen will go black. Mind you – this happened on the youtube home page so I wasn’t even doing anything intensive. The unit comes with virtually no instructions outside of how to plug it in. So if you need to enter the tower and are ignorant on how to remove the parts you’ll be out of luck. Watch some youtube videos like me.Another note, it comes with windows 11 which is terrible. Nothing but constant updates and telemetry (microsoft spyware). Pointless changes from the windows 10 UI.The graphics card 3060 ti, from what I’ve tested on a few not-so intensive games seems to work.Although the computer features an intel i7 processor it is pretty slow compared to less powerful desktops.I really don’t know if just my desktop came bad but I’m seriously considering returning it and buying a different model all together. I do not recommend this PC to anyone.

    Compact!

This is so compact. There is so much more room on my desk. If you’re just looking for a computer to watch YouTube and check emails – this one is great. The machine is quiet and has enough power for what I want it to do.

Loads of bang for your buck.

This was just what we needed to replace the older computer that was on life-support. My wife did somehow get the computer up long enough for a transfer to external hard drive. This made the working model much better with 99% of older files making the jump.

    No Video Output

Did not like that I had no video output. Makes it a little hard to use for anything but a paper weight. Tried 2 different monitors and 4 different HDMI/Display Port cables. Without a display I could not really contact Dell. I did go to public help sight with no help found. Return to Amazon was only choice. Hope I get my refund soon so I can buy another computer. Probably HP!

Great for an office or office work and basic home computing.

I recently got this Dell Inspiron 3020, and honestly, it’s bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand, this PC, equipped with an Intel Core i7-13700 and 16GB RAM, is a decent little powerhouse. It’s perfect for your everyday tasks like quick web browsing, smooth Office app usage, and streaming without any issues. The 1TB NVMe drive is a big plus, offering lightning-fast boot times and efficient program operations. The design is nice and pretty sleek. The machine is compact yet feels sturdy, and the emerald green faceplate adds a nice modern touch. It runs fairly quiet operation, too. You barely notice it’s there, which is great for a peaceful work environment. Plus, WiFi6 compatibility is a neat feature, ensuring a stable and speedy internet connection. However, it might not be for everyone. The proprietary build is a bit of a pain, limiting your upgrade options. And while the idea of a smaller shoebox-sized powerhouse sounds appealing, don’t expect serious high demanding gaming to be possible. The integrated Intel UHD 770 Graphics falls short in this department, struggling with anything graphically intensive.Another downside? The lack of a dedicated USB-C port at the back and no internal speaker. These might seem like small issues, but they’re noticeable in daily use. The power supply, while efficient, is also limited to 300 watts, which means adding a powerful graphics card isn’t really an option. In conclusion, the Dell Inspiron 3020 is a solid choice for the average user. It’s fast, stylish, and perfect for non-gaming tasks. If you’re looking for a machine for work, web development, or just general use, this could be a great fit. But for gamers or those needing heavy graphics work, you might want to look elsewhere. Despite its high-end internals, this isn’t the rig for serious gaming, but it’ll surely handle almost everything else with ease.

    good solid PC

This is a good solid PC. Windows is nice and fast and only has a handful of preloaded software. It performs as expected. It’s not going to win any medals against a custom built PC with top of the line RAM and storage, but as a pre-built system, it’s exactly what it should be.Opening it up, you have an open RAM slot and and open SATA port. Not much to do with the additional SATA port (but there is a HDD power connector available as well), since there isn’t an obvious place to mount another disk.. The open ram slot would help some with performance, it you find it lacking, and I will probably pick up a stick of DDR4-3200 to compliment what’s in it. I was a little surprised that it was still using DDR4. The CPU supports either DDR4 or DDR5, but if I’m not mistaken, the chipset has to support the DDR5 (even though, last I heard, the memory controller was on the CPU). Anyway, on with the show…There are also a single 1x and a single 16x pcie slots for expansion. But, before you go shoving a high end graphics card in the 16x slot, be warned, this has a 300watt power supply and the connectors are proprietary. So you’re not going to be sliding a bigger PSU in. With the i7-13700 CPU being a 65w TDP, add another 10-15w for everything else (if you unplug the SATA drive) and you’ve got around 200W (leaving the smallest amount of headroom) for a GPU. Dell will ship these with an optional RTX 3050 or 3060 GPU, so that’s the level of power consumption you should aim for, if you are considering adding a GPU. The integrated graphics will handle some gaming, but gets out of its depth pretty quickly with anything remotely taxing. All in all, this is a capable little computer that still has a little room to grow.

    Good build, high price

For just a good CPU with Windows 11 Pro, this PC is nice but expensive at full price. The parts are manufactured directly by Dell yet none of the savings that they make are being passed onto you, which is one of the main reasons to pick up these kinds of pre-builts. The other is convenience and support, which this one does very well. The build quality is fully proprietary. That means every installation spot and every part is non-standard sizing so that it can be locked to their special design system. This practice should be discouraged since it’s done to lock repairs and upgrades to all go through them only. However, those are really the only 2 negatives. It comes well-packed and secure in the box so no issue with packaging. The case design is very sleek overall. The airflow is minimal with no case fans but it manages to work. The CPU is encased in a long plastic vent called the Fan Shroud that guides the stock Intel heatsink air outward, which seems mostly to act as an acoustics shield. It does its job well for that and is very unique. There’s also an included DVD player which is much appreciated. The 1TB HDD for me was a Seagate but this may vary per build. The PSU doesn’t specify whether it’s the 160w, 300w, or 460w variant but it’s likely #2 or #3 as it’s an i7 CPU and there’s a dangling GPU plug inside of the case. Out of the box the PC worked great for me, but I also added a GTX 1050 after to improve productivity (a 1650 would be better today over it) which I had lying around and is known to work great on either of these wattages due to being a no-power-plug GPU.It does come with some minor bloatware. The value is really the only area to dock it a star though since the proprietary design scheme isn’t too difficult to workaround for any reasonable things that you’d really want to do here. Definitely a great computer overall and if you can find it at the right price then it’s a great workstation.

Solid work pc, not for gaming.

Awesome powerhouse of a pc. Modern CPU, plenty of storage space, and a relatively small form factor. This thing is perfect for work and personal projects, but it has no dedicated GPU. It cant run many games, and it struggles with graphics intensive tasks like rendering. For office work though, this unit is lightning fast. The cpu keeps up, and it seems like theres enough power draw to keep everything stable under heavy load. I wish the cooling was a bit better, as it has a stock cpu fan, but its something that can be changed out later if it becomes a big issue.

i7-13700 – Fast processor in a restrained configuration, questionable value proposition

This is a nice looking mini-tower desktop computer featuring the latest Intel 13th-gen “Raptor Lake” processor. I ordered this i7-13700 model to replace an older Dell XPS tower (6th gen “Sky Lake” i7-6700) with similar specs. I have 2 other 10th-gen Intel Windows laptops and a MacBook M1 Pro, so a wide variety of computing experiences to reference.Inspiron is Dell’s entry level brand and this model feels like the approach that Detroit took in the 1950s/60s with their cars when big block V8s were dropped into barebones models that lacked power steering, power brakes, suspension, etc. to properly handle that horsepower. In this model we have a very capable processor, but it’s not paired with the fastest memory nor graphics capabilities. You are somewhat limited in your expansion possibilities due to the proprietary design – the tool-less case has a carbon fiber look and feels nice, but there is no room to add a drive inside and the graphics cards you might add are restricted by the non-standard 300W power supply. You don’t even get the satisfaction of hearing a beep – there is no built-in speaker, so bring your own or use headphones.First, the good. It’s easily twice as fast processing-wise as my old i7-6700. Microsoft office apps and browsers open up nice and snappy. I’m not a huge fan of Windows 11, but the included Pro version is much better than Home, simply because there are some extra security features like Bitlocker and virtual machines that can’t be had in Home. The OS is installed on the 1TB SSD, making boot times very fast. The second 1TB 7200RPM old-school Seagate Barracuda hard drive is fast for a spinner, a plus for the Dell. Usually when these types of drives are included PC makers often go for the older 5400RPM models. 16GB of RAM is sufficient for everyday tasks on Windows 11, although I should note that all the memory is on a single DIMM – typically dual-DIMM configurations are faster, but thankfully there is an open slot if you want to upgrade later. The included keyboard and mouse are very basic, looking the same as what shipped with my XPS desktop 7+ years ago. I used my bluetooth keyboard and mouse which paired quickly, although it can take a few seconds to be recognized upon first boot at the login screen. The WiFi is much better than my old XPS, comparable in strength/speed to my laptops. Unless you are a gamer or heavy user of audio/visual apps, you will likely be happy with the overall performance. Now, my dislikes: It is incredibly lame that the HDMI port only supports Full HD and only the DisplayPort supports 4K. My primary and secondary monitors are both 4K. My old XPS was connected via HDMI, but luckily there was a free DisplayPort connection on my monitor which I could use for 4K. Unfortunately, the 2nd monitor could then be only HD. To be fair, this is mentioned in small print in the product description, but reeks of bad value engineering. You can find plenty of other PCs at this price point that output 4K at HDMI. You might think “well, I can connect a nice dock via the USB-C port and get 4K HDMI that way” except that doesn’t work because 1) the USB-C is limited to 5Gbps and 2) it’s not Thunderbolt. The DVD drive is not a smooth sliding drawer tray, but a pop-out style like you’d find in an old laptop. If you want to upgrade to Blu-Ray, that may be difficult to swap out and keep things looking nice. The SD card reader is basic, UHS-I and not the newer UHS-II (again – think ‘big block V8 in barebones care’ theme). The biggest issue for me, though? The noise and the price. You will want to stick this on the floor, possibly far under the desk so that the desktop will block some of it out. After using relatively quiet laptops as my daily drivers for years – they typically only turn on fans under heavy load – I found the constant whirr of the processor cooling fan on this Dell a little annoying, especially combined with the old-school hard drive that spins up/down periodically. Since this will be used by my kids who have AirPods constantly in their ears, they likely won’t care. The price is a bit of a head-scratcher to me – as of this writing, it is a little over $1K. The target office is definitely not gamers, but everyday users. I’d suggest they would be better off spending that money on a laptop with similar specs, possibly a sale model with an older 12th-gen processor. The average user won’t notice any speed differences in everyday apps, but will gain a screen, speakers, and the option of portability by choosing a laptop over this mini-tower.

    Mighty Box. Mighty Price Tag.

As a computer, this is a good one. It has really good specs that come in a decently small package. It does have some room for expansion, but won’t be supporting any high-end graphics cars soon. The included power supply is a measly 300W and it doesn’t help that Dell uses proprietary motherboard connections. The overall package is really small which makes it nice for Home offices as it can be placed almost anywhere and hidden pretty well if that is desired. However, it is pretty loud. There are 2 fans; the CPU heatsink and the power supply, and one of them is quite whiny. It can get annoying if you have this computer next to your head like I do in my setup.I think that for the price tag, there are much better builds to be had, but this machine is still impressive. I have since converted into into a HyperVisor server running ProxMox, and it runs everything flawlessly. It even serves as my home router after I installed a two port 10Gb nic.I don’t think that this computer is a bad option, but I do believe that there are better ones out there. If this Dell Inspiron 3020 Desktop ticks all the boxes of what you want then go for it.

    No built in speakers!

Working on setting up this new PC. My existing PC is an old Dell OptiPlex (2012) that I discovered is too old to run the Dell Migrate app which was the major reason I bought a new Dell. Very annoying and will cause me much trouble since I have so much data to transfer. I now have discovered the Inspiron 3020S has NO BUILT IN SPEAKERS. So now I have to buy more stuff and have more junk on my desk. That’s what I get for assuming it had built in speakers like every other computer I’ve had. They deliberately make it hard to assess the specs upfront. I guess Corporate America needed to squeeze out some more profit by eliminating the DVD drive and internal speakers. Being a consumer in today’s world is kind of insulting.

A solid computer for everyday use

Build quality is good, computer has a small form factor and can be put in a small cubby or corner. It boots super fast. Setup was a cinch and if you have a Microsoft account already you can just log in with that. Booted in less than a minute and the computer size size is like a mini tower. I use it for every day activities like YouTube, Microsoft Office, and Netflix. I plan to put an RTX in it eventually, since it has 2 expansion slots (one for a video card). Process seems strong enough for gaming. Would be a good entry level mid-range gaming PC.Note: This version has a 300 Watt power supply. I didn’t see it mentioned in the description.

Zippy. Fast WiFi speeds. Great for the workplace or at home, but not for gaming.

This is a review of the Intel Core i7-13700, 16GB RAM, Intel UHD 770 Graphics version of this computer.### Summary ###Overall, I found this machine ran efficiently. Very fast for typical tasks. The OS booted quickly and responded to the speed of my mouse clicks. No lagging or slowdowns. Programs opened and closed in good time. Surfing the net and streaming video works great too, even when connected over WiFi. In fact, the wireless internet speeds I got on this system were faster than most of my others. It supports 5GHz and is on par with the speeds I get on my 2020 iMac, clocking in around 300Mbps for both up and down (on 1 Gig Internet Plan). The system runs quietly and comes with almost everything you need to get started. You just need a monitor. As a former IT Administrator who ordered and built my own systems, I’d say this Inspiron 3020 is a good fit for the office place. It comes with the Professional version of Windows and can keep up with office software demands. My only complaint in this setting is that it only has one HDMI port. If you want a second monitor, as most developers and designers do, there is a Dual-Mode DisplayPort 1.4. But you need to purchase a separate adapter before you can get it to work with a second monitor.### Notes on hardware ###It came with a single, Kingston 16GB DDR4 3200 MHz RAM chip. There’s an open slot for one other chip, so you can have two total. It uses dual-channel memory which lets you add another 16GB chip to hit 32GB. Alternatively, you can replace the included chip with two 32GB chips for a maximum of 64GB. The system can handle up to that speed. IMO, 16GB is enough for most general tasks, but developers and designers may wish to have more. Especially those working with Adobe CC.There are two hard drives: an SSD loaded into the M.2 slot which has the OS (Windows) installed. At 1TB, it’s plenty large enough to add your other software too, such as your web browser and email client of choice. You’ll want your programs on the SSD as they will load faster. In addition, there’s a second 1TB SATA drive. That one is a Seagate BarraCuda (Green), which is slower but offers additional storage space for files. Such as videos, images, and backups. Just keep in mind that most files save to the C: drive by default, so you’ll need to select the other drive (D:) when saving to there. For USB, you have three USB 3.2 ports (1 on front, 2 on back), one USB 3.2 Type-C (on front), and four USB 2.0 (2 on front, 2 on back). The 2.0 is good for things like mice, keyboards, and headphones, while 3.2 is better for external drives and devices that need more speed. There are three SATA ports on the motherboard. Two are used: 1 for the optical drive (CD/DVD) and 1 for the SATA hard drive. A third one remains open and unused, should you wish to add another internal drive. It’s nice to see an optical drive, which often gets left off systems nowadays. But note that it only reads and writes to CDs and DVDs, it won’t work with Blu-ray.### Not for Gamers ###With the high specs of this machine, including plenty of RAM, a fast processor, and an OS running on an SSD, I thought this system had the potential for gaming. That, and the research I did on Intel UHD 770 Graphics led me to believe it could be done. Unfortunately, I found that was not the case. I loaded Overwatch 2, which is a game known for its settings adjustability, but it ran poorly. Even with the graphics turned all on low and the monitor resolution below 1920×1200. While the game did run, it was dreadfully ugly: much of it blurry and pixelated. I adjusted the settings to improve the visuals, such as increasing the render scale, but doing so caused the game to be so sluggish that it was unplayable. Even on low settings, it was not smooth enough for acceptable aim accuracy. The included graphics are integrated, meaning that the processor handles them. It only supports up to 60Hz. As such, I cannot take full advantage of my 144Hz gaming monitor. There is an open PCIe x16 expansion slot, so technically you can add your own Video Card (VC). But there are some problems with that: (1) The desktop case is small, which limits the size of VC you can fit. (2) There are zero case fans. There aren’t even any empty spots to add your own fans to. Nothing on the top, sides, or front. The only fans on this machine are the one on the processor and the one inside the power supply. This means the case doesn’t cool well and that could be a problem for a VC, which typically runs hot even with its own fans included. (3) The power supply is only 300 watts max, which may not be enough for the VC you want to use. There’s only one PCI-E plug, and some VCs require two. While you could swap out the power supply for a more powerful one, note that it’s an odd size. You must get one that’s under 2.5” tall to fit inside the case, limiting your options.I did have an older VC lying around that I tested inside this machine. An AMD Radeon HD 5700. It was the only VC I had that would both fit inside the case and work off only one PCI-E plug. While it did load and gave me slightly better gaming graphics than the internal Intel UHD 770, it caused the machine to run hot. The processor fan ran at full speed, and the power supply was close to baking to the touch. So, it’s risky being that the case doesn’t cool well.In conclusion, I do not recommend purchasing this machine for gaming. If you plan on playing low-demanding games like Roblox, Farming Simulator 2017, or older games like UT3, and don’t mind low details on certain ones, it may get the job done. But anything more graphics-intensive can cause problems.

A shoebox sized, no nonsense powerhouse

It looked bigger in the picture was my first thought when pulling out the shoebox sized Dell computer form the packaging. It has been a while since I have had a desktop computer so my expectations of a towering hunk of metal might have been a little bit off. While small, the computer does feel solid. The front faceplate is actually quite stylish with a nice texture and rich emerald green color. This is a very modern looking machine, even the white LED’s are nicer than anything I have seen on a PC in a while.Setup was a breeze, they do include a wired mouse and wired keyboard. The keyboard leaves much to be desired but should be fine for everyone except the avid writer who would likely replace this first. I thought the mouse would have been the worst, but it actually is quite functional and very accurate.Once you get through the brief Windows 11 setup your greeted with a basic desktop setup with a few packaged add-ons that can be easily removed (the only one that I had a knee jerk remove response was for McAfee). The configuration on this included all the right go fast bits, i7-13700, 16GB RAM and a dual hard drive setup where the main drive is a blazing fast 1TB NVMe paired up with a more traditional 1TB SATA drive. Icing on the cake is the WiFi6 (that I should point out does not need an external antenna).Using this computer is a joy. You get jaded being around fast computers after a while. SSD’s made basically even really old computers seem fast, but moving up to this cutting edge processor with an amazing 16 cores and 24 threads of potential has been an eye opener. Everything just happens at the blink of an eye.I have also been a little obsessed with power draw lately, retiring some old computers in favor of new low power machines with the same performance. My old desktop drew 200 watts of power at idle and would crank well over 450 watts when compiling software or playing a game — it also ran 24×7 costing me nearly a dollar a day in power charges. That is over thirty bucks a month just to have a computer running.I put this machine under my power meter (a Kasa remote plug with power monitoring). While running most of the time the Dell is sipping power around 27 – 35 watts. The most I was able to get the machine up to was 133 watts (running Prime95, and that was for all but a second or two, it drew down to about 110 watts but still maintained 5Ghz, amazing). All of that was in Best Performance Mode. In Power Saving mode you still idle around 30 watts and general surfing / office work runs about 35 – 45 watts. All of this is done while nearly being silent as well. In a quiet room you might just barely notice the fans kick up if you have the machine up close to your head (such as tucked away behind your monitor) but for the most part this is nearly silent computing. All these fast bits in a box, I have to ask who is this for? Not really for gamers as the system does not have a discreet graphics card and the power supply is only 300 watts which leaves very little power if you were to add on a beefy graphics card. No, this is not a gamers computer despite all the hardware being top of the line, but you can for sure get away with tons of casual gaming and even some other gaming if you drop the settings and resolution down quite a bit. Then who is this for? This is for everyone else. This is for the everyday computer user that was the fastest web surfing, the quickest spreadsheet processing, the best of everything else aside from gaming. This is for the web and application developers that want their IDE’s to react instantly without hesitation. This is the everyday computer for people who just want fast without any headache and a warranty to go with it.Having used this computer for a solid few weeks, I am just continuously impressed by the performance of it but I have two small complaints about the whole setup. One is that there is no internal speaker. Dells used to have the internal speaker connected to the sound card so at worse case scenario you could crank the volume to 100% and listen to the horribly muffled internal speaker in a pinch, this is missing and surprisingly missed as I did not immediately have a set of speakers to connect this to (ended up using a blue tooth speaker and that has been doing well for my testing – never once lost connection). The other complaint would be the lack of a USB-C port on the rear of the computer (there is one on the front) which seems like a huge miss since most devices I am buying now are all USB-C. That is it, that is all my complaints and honestly they are small and not deal breakers. Everything else is perfectly picked and works exceptionally well on this shoebox sized power house. I am very impressed. As someone with 30+ years of computing these are my final thoughts about the Dell Inspiron 3020 with i7-13700 with 16Gb of RAM and 1TB NVMe primary drive. If your looking for a gaming computer, this is not it. Yes the internals are very high end and perform incredibly well, but this is not the platform to build a serious gaming PC on, though you could probably find a low power graphics card (like a 2060, I would not go with anything that can pull over 160 watts) that gets you into some decent 1080p gaming, but the model I have for review certainly is not for any hardcore gaming. If your looking for a stylish nearly silent shoebox sized PC to surf the web, watch streaming movies, do office / school / web / application development work or about 99.9% of every computing task out there that is not gaming, without any non-sense then this is perfect and will likely get you through the next decade.

Nice to come back to Dell after buying a number of PC’s over decades and straying outside in 2017.

For many years, I used a Dell desktop computer to drive my hi-end audio system. But amazingly, this newly purchased replacement Dell computer was delivered lacking the essential drivers that would have made it my new audio center. What was Dell thinking? Why did they dumb down what was once a fine product? Their new product is useless for this basic audio use. The only way to get signal to my audio setup now is via a crummy little headphone jack, which is totally inadequate for hi-res digital music files. As they say, “Let the buyer beware.”The decline of a once great computer company?

    Very solid non-gaming computer!

We got this for my Aunt for Christmas. This computer is a LOT of computer for the price. A top of the line i7 processor, Fast SSD drive, 16Gb of RAM and plenty of connections, it is a very high performance computer for under $999 at this point and time. The only thing it lacks is a high end graphics card for 3d gaming, which my Aunt did not need. Honestly, this was more computer than she needed, but we wanted to give her a premier experience and also wanted to keep her from having to update any time soon. She had her last computer for over 10 years, so this one should last her nearly that long as well, based on its current specs and her use-case.For anything but high-intensive graphics processing, this is pretty much as much computer as most people ever need for stuff like internet surfing, e-mail, word processing and videos and such. It’s good quality, and it is working great. We paired it with a nice 27 inch Samsung monitor and it is a beast. It also comes with a mouse and a chicklet keyboard, which is up to you to keep or change. But they are perfectly functional and work fine unless you need something more.A solid five stars for what it is!

    so far, so good

I have been using and building computers since 1978. I currently have 2 big tower computers that sit on the floor and that I built — one is Windows 10 and one is Fedora Linux. I also have a Dell laptop, 2 tablets, and the new Dell computer. This Dell does not take up much desktop space, has all necessary connections, and runs fast enough for personal and, I think, probably business use. {The only slightly bad thing is that the instructions that came with it were very skimpy, and Dell could do better there.} Otherwise, the Dell, which is attached to a Dell, monitor, runs great. I highly recommend this computer.

    Good for the basic necessities

I bought this desktop only because I needed access to windows for some software and programs that can only run on here for school. I’m usually a Mac person so I didn’t know what to expect but this was exceptional for its price, it can easily run the things I was hoping for it to do seamlessly. So if you need this for school or casual web browsing it’s definitely not going to break a sweat on that. I still stick to my MacBook for editing software and stuff, so I can’t comment on those aspects.

    New Inspiron Dell Tower

I purchased this tower to replace an old one that was no longer working. I’m very happy that I purchased the same brand. So far, I’m EXTREMELY happy with it! Works great – turns on right away and stays on for as long as I’m using it. My grandchildren use it for gaming, so they appreciate that it works quickly with their games.
