Best action camera money can buy
First off – I LOVE this camera! I’ve tried other brands, but none of them even come close to stacking up to this thing. The controls are easy to use, the picture couldn’t be clearer, it works well on multiple mounts. I could go on, and on, and on, but if you’re on the fence, and you have the money, I would for sure go for it! There are a number of features I haven’t had the opportunity to use yet, but I plan to as I gain more experience, and participate in more activities.

Underwater Images/Video Superb – But When It Stops Working Not So Superb: Profoundly Disappointed
Maybe be the most wonderful camera for underwater images and video quality – limited information included but YouTube videos helped with settings, Purchased to use in French Polynesia and the first three uses, it was great. I was SO happy. Between that 3rd and 4th use I didn’t do a thing. I was about to shoot a manta ray right in front of me when the screen went black. Somehow the waterproof camera took in water. I honestly did totally nothing between uses to make this spontaneously happen and have no clue how this happened, except that this impacted a once in a lifetime adventure for me. I will never purchase a GoPro again, and can’t believe that I am the only person this has happened to. I tried, of course, the rice trick and to simply dry it out – but halfway around the world I had limited resources and nothing I did worked to help. GoPro owes me a camera – but I doubt they will do this, so I will simply buy another kind before embarking an another underwater trip.

Buy From Amazon- Not GoPro!
I initially bought my GoPro12 from GoPro. They never shipped it. I had an order # and receipt. GoPro took 2 weeks to figure out what’s going on. I needed camera for a trip, I ordered on Amazon and had it right away, no issues. I’m happy with my GoPro 12 . Sadly GoPro seems to not have their act together in customer service. GoPro also screwed up my GoPro Subscription also.

Volta Grip Wouldn’t Charge, Even After “Reset.” Got A Lemon. Be Safe, Function Test Every Accessory.
I purchased this GoPro HERO12 Black Creator Edition for $499 on 11/22/2023 during the holiday promotion.Took everything out of the box and case. The HERO12, Volta Battery Grip, Media Mod, Light Mod, Enduro battery, and all the accessories were included.Charged the Enduro battery, installed it in the camera, downloaded the QUIK app, installed the required updates, etc. etc. So far so good…I connected the Volta Battery Grip to a cable and charging block for a standalone charge—not a charge with it attached/connected to the HERO12.After plugging into the 120V outlet, the battery level indicator starts with the third light (out of five) blinking. So, it’s about half charged…I go off to play with the camera. Adjust the settings, familiarize myself with the features, compare the different lens settings and perspectives, go through the optional adjustments, and so on.After a couple of hours of playing with the new toy, I check if the Volta has been fully charged. To my surprise, it’s not charged yet. In fact, the battery level DECREASED. When I plugged it in, the third light was blinking, and now, the SECOND light is blinking. Huh?I thought that I screwed up the cable connections by not seating them fully on the Volta and the charger, so I reconnected them and off I went to continue to familiarize myself with the camera.Another hour, maybe two, later, I checked on the Volta. No progress. The second light is still blinking.At this point, I connected the charger and cable to my phone to check that they were working correctly. They were. So, I knew that the problem isn’t with the cable and/or charger. What next?I go online and find out that sometimes the Volta needs a “Reset” to fix the no-charging issue. I go on GoPro’s website and follow the procedure for the “Reset.” Good to go, so I thought.I connect the cable and charger onto the Volta again and let it charge…When I check on it a few hours later, nothing happened. The second light is still blinking. At this point, I know I got a lemon.So, the MTBF (mean time between failure) is ZERO for this one. I get the one out of xyz that’s defective. Just my luck!Obviously, GoPro’s QA/QC wasn’t good enough to pick off this defective item.Make sure you function test every accessory before the return/exchange/refund period expires.

GoPro12 – Absolutely amazing!
I have been slow to get a GoPro because I thought it would be difficult to use and not offer any better picture quality. While I do think the camera is not easy to use, it’s not too difficult and can be mastered with a little experience and use. The picture quality is absolutely amazing. I bought the GoPro12 and could not be happier. We took it on vacation recently to Wyoming and the pics and videos are incredible,. Even with brightness from the snow making some of the shadows darker, it still did very well.I highly recommend this camera!

Great Camera with One Flaw
Much of the GoPro is first class. The features are numerous and the most common are easy to get to. I’m impressed with how the Quik phone app works so far. Given that you mount the thing in ways that make it hard to get to, the voice commands and use of the Quik app to control many functions is super useful.Now to the flaw: The charging is brain-dead! This is a serious problem though not fatal. The camera needs a 2 amp power supply that is NOT included. My Macbook supply does not have the needed rating so the GoPro will not charge from it. One every other USB C device I have, the charging on a weak power supply (lump) is just slower–where the GoPro simply refuses to charge! This means you need to carry around a special lump for it! I have USB ports in my car but none will work. This is a flaw that I hope they solve in the future since there is no reason a powered off device cannot charge from a low amperage (low wattage) supply, it will just charge slower.This high amperage (wattage) charging means the device is hot to the touch when charging. It uses a lot of power so it is also hot when running. There are ways to reduce the power it uses while running and I won’t fault them for this, some things just take the juice. Given that the batteries can be swapped there seems no reason to force a fast charge. There is no reasonable excuse for NOT CHARGING slower on an under-powered lump, cmon GoPro!

Works as advertised
The battery only last 2 hours so I hope you don’t need it for anything long.You con only charge the battery inside the camera unless you buy another charger to carry along with you.It is a big money pit where you will be paying for more and more attachments and options.However the video quality is amazing.It does everything it says it does.If they would make a pass through battery cover to let you plug into a bigger battery it would be way better.

Image quality is fantastic, but it’s just not reliable…
In short, I just can’t use this as a reliable video camera. First time out, I used it to record a live performance. Camera lasted about 30 minutes and then shut down. It failed to record the second piece which I was performing in. I assumed my memory card wasn’t big enough. However, the camera later upon power on confirmed it had shut down because it got too hot. This was a camera that at the event was sat inside on a wooden chair not in any direct sunlight recording video with a perfect view of the performance. Recording with audio in standard quality. The Audio and video it did record is great, but you can’t replace an event which cannot be repeated and I thought the GoPro would be up to the job.I’ve since then tried using as a dash cam, but it either complained that the 5v USB cable voltage was incompatible! Or, on many other occassions it has just got too hot and shut down. Today driving home just 40 minutes. It shut down 10 minutes into the drive across town. In the later after picking up a friend it shut down for the second time about 15 minutes in.I’ve also tried using it to record other things, and often it works fine. However if you want it to record longer videos at least my one is utterly useless. For me, it fails to be able to complete most of the types of recordings I had in mind.This was my first GoPro, and even after all the research I had done, I was just hoping other peoples comments about over heating somehow wouldn’t affect my unit. Evidently its a common problem and has been for some time. Given this is the Hero 12, I’m guessing they can’t fix the issue, and/or just don’t care provided people like me will buy them anyway.Therefore decided, to replace this with a DJI ACTION 4. Youtube video by Peter Lindgren comparing GoPro Hero 12 to DJI Action 4, left me in no doubt I had bought the wrong camera. I don’t often write reviews but this camera is not cheap, and to me it’s practical value is down to 1 star. Thereby, hopefully somebody reading this will take note and buy another brand of camera.======Update after receiving the DJI Action 4 and comparison to the Gopro Hero12:DJI Action 4 is fantastic. Build quality seems superior and comes with more accessories even with the standard combo pack I bought. Side by side filming on similar settings, my GoPro quit filming after about 15 minutes getting to 55 degrees C at shut down. The DJI by comparison was only 41 degrees and continued recording without further increase in temperature. Sound quality on the DJI also seems better. I’m super pleased with the video footage on the DJI also. Also more features and options on the DJI which also makes it much better suited for use also as a dashcam. In short, I bought the wrong camera. Buy a DJI instead of the GoPro in my opinion the DJI is just such an all-round better product.

Super nice camera!
I’ve owned the original Hero all the way up to this… the 12 and it’s by far the greatest in every way. Noteworthy features: the folding mount tabs on the bottom have a standard 1/4-20 thread for standard tripod mounting. This is great cuz you can mount it like any other camera, directly to a tripod or other accessories.The options to turn on or off things like WiFi, speech control, the front view screen is nice if you’re wanting to optimize battery life.The ability to really customize exposure time, resolution etc and create fast presets to quickly begin shooting video in different ways, exactly how you want.The picture and sound quality underwater is wonderful. Even the transition between shooting underwater to above water is seamless. Amazing Camera, Terrible Battery Life
The camera is exceptional and takes incredible video. Pulling ideal “action shot” photos from the video is a breeze with the Quik app. In fact, using video to record and pull photos later is my favorite way to take photos with it anyway.It would be an easy 5 stars if not for the battery life, which is abysmal. It’s also rather prone to heating up… I have no idea how people use this to capture any meaningful samples of video in high-temp environments. In low temp environments I’d imagine the battery life to be even worse.I bought a GoPro branded pair of extra batteries with the standalone dual charger, and the camera would be unusable without these extra batteries. The camera is so good though that I’ll still give it 4 stars.

Good quality, small package
I like how the phone connects to your camera. The app is easy to use and allows you to transfer your camera to your phone with. You don’t need a GoPro subscription for that. I’m really glad I bought this camera. Super small and solid design. I heard it has some issues performing in the snow and cold. But I don’t do that stuff. I recommend buying a second battery with a charger. This bundle came with two batteries.

Great kit
I wanted a solution that would work for recording my hiking and trail running adventures. This has been a great solution. The Volta grip adds a lot of battery life and makes it easier to start and stop recording. It’s also easy to hold to a long time as I recorded just about 2 hours of continuous running holding it the entire time and my arm and hand didn’t get tired.The video quality is excellent and the sound is good. I also like the HDR functionality which I think should be a standard on all recording and display devices now – our eyes see like this so it’s time that cameras do as well.The one thing that I haven’t liked is that I’ve had the red light of death where the GoPro freezes and won’t respond to input. I had to remove the battery and re-seat the battery to use it again. In addition, there seem to be times when it works perfectly and then gets finicky and won’t record when you want it to. Hopefully these are software issues that can be fixed. Overall I am happy with it and it’s a gigantic improvement over the Hero 6 that I have. I’d wait to get it on sale though (it goes to $499 as of this review) or buy it when the 13 comes out and this is discounted.

The footage from this GoPro is fantastic!! Stunning actually.
The media could not be loaded.
My last GoPro was the 3 so the picture quality of the 12 black is out of this world great!! The video stabilization is mind boggling good. The quality is so good it actually looks like something you’d see in the movies. Check out the attached comparison between the 3 and the 12.I’m still getting use to navigating around with all the different features and options but slowly but surely I’m getting the hang of it. I get roughly and hour out of each battery. But since I’ve gone to a lightweight power pack attached to my belt to power my GoPro I have hours and hours of recording time.I LOVE IT!

Good camera; TERRIBLE SOFTWARE
The GOPRO app is so draconian and locked down and spams you.. and puts unnecessary hurdles just to get your footage ON your phone while you’re on the go.. it makes the experience of using a GOPRO objectively bad.The camera is great, but the software is SO BAD.. that I removed 3 stars from what should be a 5 star rating. There’s no excuse. There’s no reason to force a user to jump through 2-3 steps to get the footage on their mobile device. Just to give you an idea, you have to enter the GOPRO app on your phone, well now you need to sign in, oh yah it’s spamming ads at you, you can click a smaller text option to continue as ‘guest’, once you’re eventually connected and looking at your media.. good luck using the editing software.. and if you want to use your own editing software you have to FIRST transfer the footage to your phone .. but NO you can’t SEE it on your phone.. you have to AGAIN transfer it outside of the draconian prison walls of the software.. to actually get to the raw footage.It’s so enraging, it’s so pointless, and it’s clearly designed to just spam the user over and over and over. This is way to overpriced to have to deal with this spam filled nonsense.

Straight to the point :Do you have a HERO10 ? Than you don’t need the HERO12. (Not much has changed)The GPS has been removed as mentioned by the company itself.Uses the same battery as the HERO11 Black (50min to full charge for one battery…)This device runs hot!!For those who are wondering if using the Media Mode (it will run hotter and will turn off after about 40min when recording 4K 60fps)

Great GoPro works very well for me

I come from a gopro hero 301 and its fantastic, well.. i should say the battery it’s not like i thoughtin 4k 30fps lasts about 1 hour of recording but 60fps reduces tu 30-40 minutos and it’s starting to get warm very warm, but the quality its great i love the stabilization and the quality of the video, normally i record in 5.3k 30fps Angular for record my trips, I have been trying the hyperview but I think it is for other uses, maybe think about buying the lens 2.0 mod to have the superview with horizon lock, which is a great feature, the hdr from the standar video its looks the same thing ( maybe if you recording with the hdr inside your car and recording in the front maybe the sky looks better ) but one solution what i found its connect a powerbank (anker) and its works! for long trips in my bike or just sequence videos. Oh i forget the automatic upload to the cloud of gopro makes the camera too hot, i think about it and maybe upload manually in browser…—update—- 2024-02-19The camera is fantastic, it has excellent recording and stabilization, I use it on my bicycle on the handlebarsI had a problem with heating, I could only last about 45 minutes recording at 4k 60fps, now what I did was buy a battery cover that has a hole in the charger, and I connected an Anker 10k portable battery, and that’s how I solved the problem of the warming up, and I can record up to 5 hours with that battery.Also with the upload to the cloud, I had problems connecting to my new ax55 archer router, I detected that it was the 160Mhz frequency that created a conflict and did not allow me to connect, what I did was lower the router to 80Mhz and it started to upload, and the heating is the same there is no way, just take out the battery and connect it there if it remains normal, but regarding the wifi I activated the 160Mhz again and it remained connected and the upload finished, I have not yet tried again to see if it goes back up without making that change in the router.

Too small if you have difficulty holding things
Seems to be a good camera for people that can handle this small camera. I have a hard time trying to use it. I bought it so I could have something I could put in a pocket and take with me. My right hand was damaged in a hydraulic door years ago and had to be operated on and this small camera is too hard for me to use. I was trying to avoid getting a DSLR camera which I have to carry around on a shoulder strap, but it appears that is my only option. Something big enough so my right hand will close firmly on it, buttons that are easier to press and a bigger touch screen. I followed a video on setting it up and my battery level was at 43 percent by the time I finished. It took me longer than the video was and I had to keep pausing the video. I never got any pictures off the camera so I do not know how good they are.Being waterproof was another reason I bought this camera. If you have hand problems then maybe you should look into getting a different camera also.
