Sound quality blew me away
I don’t normally write reviews for products, but this sound system has really blown me away and I feel compelled to share my experience. I am so far very pleased with this product.Yamaha is a reputable brand and right off the bat you can trust that you’re receiving a solid product for the price you pay. It’s a costly setup but quality from this brand is on par with what you pay.Setup was easy enough. It took about an hour and a half to get everything unboxed, wires ran, speakers set, etc. The AV receiver is bigger than I thought it would be! Due to the way my room is set up, I anticipated not having enough speaker wire provided in the box and had to use a bit more. Amazon has cheap 16 gauge wire that you can pick up if you have to do some longer runs.Firing up the unit and testing each speaker was easy enough.The magic really happened when I plugged in my devices and started testing different songs, movies, and video games. I’m amazed by the crisp sounds and deep bass this unit can produce. It really feels like you’re at the movies! The surround sound helps video games feel atmospheric. With all the different presets available, you can customize the audio to fit the medium you’re playing.What really blew me away was the subwoofer. I can feel the bass in my chest and it is such a cool feeling. Bass notes are deep and rich, and explosions rattle the room, placing you directly in the action.If you’re looking for a true home cinema setup, look no further than this Yamaha sound system. Don’t cut corners with a sound bar if you can afford it. This thing is the real deal!

The Yamaha 5.1 Home Theater Surround System (YHT-4950U 4K Ultra HD 5.1)
I was told that I would not like, want or be happy with a Yamaha 5.1 Home Theater surround system and that I’d be better off with a Sony Surround System. Well let me tell you what. I am extremely happy that I went with the Yamaha. The sound is outstanding and I would recommend it to my wurst enemy The value/ price was at a great affordable price too! I would have paid twice as much for a Sony and ended up most likely with the same sound quality.

Works good but should come with better speakers.
This amplifier tuner works and sounds great as it should but this isn’t my first Yamaha. I feel it should come with better speaker. The 4 smaller speakers are pretty light and the sound will break up when you turn the volume up. Normally Yamaha comes with way better speakers. The sub work excellent its just the other speakers. They sound great at low to mid volume but can’t handle much higher volumes. I’m planning on switching them to bose when I find the right deal. The amp can run the and the sound quality it puts out is good just isn’t matched to the amp properly.

Excellent Home Theater System!
This is an excellent home theater system! Just got it right after Christmas. True the subwoofer bass sounds low but that’s because if you use the YPAO calibration mic, it’ll really decrease the subwoofer’s dB’s to the “-dB” range. But I recommend before performing the YPAO calibration mic test, instead of setting the subwoofer volume to halfway as recommended, turn it down couple notches and run the YPAO test and it’ll come out to the “+dB” range, and the subwoofer sounds much better.Excellent home theater system! Definitely recommend it!

Had issues but made it work for 3 years
This was my introduction into a home theatre system so I didn’t know what to expect until upgrading when this started having major malfunctions after 3 years. Originally I had this sitting on a media shelf mid-way up the wall and after roughly 20-30 minutes of watching anything, the connection would reset and search, connect happening more and more frequent. I found I could delay that time by adding a few fans to the shelf. I eventually bought a wall mounted server rack and added server fans above and below creating high flow cool air and it stopped happening for the last year and half. But now it resets the connection again every couple of minutes despite the airflow. After switching to another competitor the difference is shocking. So going middle of the road, when it works its good, but it hasn’t been reliable and I shouldn’t need professional level cooling system to make it work

You just can’t beat this package! For the price trying to piece something else together would be difficult and much more expensive. I built a home theater. This is my first experience with a surround sound system. Took a little figuring out as far as options and selections but once done… the sound is unreal! It brings a home theater to the next level! 100% satisfied & fully recommend!!
I bought this theater system for my husband because we had a major issue with sound in our bedroom and both hated it. Before everyone we watched anything the music and action sound would always be too much! And you could barley gear individuals talking during these moment, but could overly hear them without the sound in the background. We tried everything from messing with the sound controls to adding other equipment like a sound bar. Nothing ever worked!!I spent 4 days researching the best home theater systems (not just a sound bar system) for 2019 in December a few weeks before Christmas. After sitting through 100 plus websites and sytems, reading reviews after review, and making sure it met a couple of certain critiria my husband had said he wanted on the next system he bought, such as Bluetooth, the mic sound location, and a sub-woofer (not just a sound bar). I came back to this system over and over again on several different websites. It was Amazon and our Amazon prime that offered the best price and quickest delivery though, so my search was done.3 months later we have zero complaints!! This system has been everything I had spent days looking for and my husband was amazed with his Christmas gift!! He continues to brag about it and tell me what an amazing job I did picking out this Home theater system (which is something he would normally do).We put the mic locator right in the middle of our pillows on our bed (as this is usually where we watch t.v. in the bedroom) and everything we watch and the music we listen to is perfect!! We have no problem hearing people talk in movies or having to keep the remote in hand to turn it up and down when the action is too much, or the voices to low.😂 In fact it’s like we’re at the movies when we watch one, or at a concert when we listen to music. (which is perfectly streamed from every device we have via blue tooth, or smart t.v.) Even the sound from the regular A.M., F.M radio is outstanding!!I can 100% say that I fully recommend this product and trust me you never know what your missing until your watch a movie in bed and it sound like the helicopter on the t.v. is circling around your bed and you can still hear the movie dialogue. I have no complaints at all and Neither does my husband. They only thing that could make this product better is wireless subspeakers, but the wires run around and having to be covered was a small price to pay for this kind of sound perfection.

A great basic home theater kit with Dolby Digital Plus support
I recently purchased this kit to replace a problematic LG BH9431PW. The LG claimed to support Dolby Digital Plus, but would not decode the new encoding from the Roku Amazon or Netflix channels. The Yamaha receiver in this kit handles the DD+ output from the Amazon and Netflix channels wonderfully.In case anyone is wondering, the AV Receiver included in this kit is the RX-V385.Some highlights so far compared to the previous LG BH9431PW:* Full Dolby Digital Plus support! Woohoo! I am now getting Dolby 5.1 output from my Amazon and Netflix channels. This was the number one reason for purchasing this unit.* The receiver allows direct navigation to any of the inputs: We use a Logitech Harmony 650 universal remote to map all of our devices, and the LG forced it to cycle through the inputs. This meant that, to go from our ROKU on HDMI2 to the DVR on HDMI1, the remote had to cycle forward through the other inputs like the optical, tuner, USB, and bluetooth to get back to HDMI1. This not only meant waiting a long time with the remote pointed at the equipment, but also tended to be prone to failure if the bluetooth scanning took too long. With the new Yamaha receiver, the remote is able to quickly switch between HDMI2 and HDMI3 with no delays or errors.* The speakers use standard wire connectors. The LG had a weird, proprietary connection plug and wiring scheme, so the old speakers could not be easily re-used with a different receiver (which is what forced me into buying a complete home theater system vs just upgrading the receiver).* The auto-speaker setup was nice. The unit comes with a microphone that can be hooked up to help balance the speakers for your particular viewing arrangement. The setup program not only validates the functionality and wiring of the speakers, but will calculate the relative distances from the speaker to the viewing location to help balance the volumes of each speaker.* Volume trimming between inputs. Related to speaker balancing, the unit will also let you decrease/increase the volume a bit between inputs. This is a handy feature since our DVR volume tended to be a bit softer than our ROKU, and the tuner would blow us out of the room. We now have the relative volume between the inputs a little closer to each other.* Powered Subwoofer. The subwoofer seems to have a bit more punch than my previous setup.Things that could be better:* Wireless surround connection. My old LG surround speaker setup had a wireless connection between the main unit and a satellite surround base unit. The new Yamaha forced me to run long speaker cables to the back of the room. A pain, but at least I no longer have to run power back to that location.

Great Sound
Yamaha always did make nice audio gear. This one has all the bells and whistles. Sub-Woofer goes down to a respectible 25hz. The receiver has tons of effects. Lots of configurable paramaters. It integrated right in with my Fire TV Stick, no problem. One remote for everything. Have it hooked up to my projector. 100″ screen and awesome sound. Can’t beat it!

Great investment will beat any cinema theater hands down. Will take 1-2 hours to set up.I’m recommend “5 ch Stereo” program for movies/tv…I’m was upset due barely can hear dialogues and sudden has high volume on movie music and effects, correct sound program need to be chosen.Cons: Cheap speaker wire included (but do the work), no speaker wall mounts. No HDMI cable.

Headbanging awesome!
You have to play with the different sound variations to get what you what, but that’s exactly what this allows you to do. I have one setting for my action game and another for my movies. And they stay programmed.The only negative I have on this is that the wire wasn’t long enough. I don’t have the largest living room, but they at least supply a fair amount of wire. I wish the speakers were bluetooth, but I guess it makes for easier set up.I’m a metal head. I like being able to hear every beat and sound that the artist creates. And at maybe halfway up and the bass maybe halfway up, I get all that and then some.I got sick of spending $50-$100 for a sound bar or something like that that doesn’t give me what I want. So I paid more and got one of the best deals ever.. . . Loving my surround sound!

Great sound system
Pro’s- can get very loud- deep sound- speaker cords come all in one cable as to be able to adjust the lengths yourself depending on speaker placement. That really helps if you have bigger rooms or oddly shaped speaker arrangements. You can cut the cords to length.- I haven’t had any interruption. A lot of systems that I’ve had will cut out, or I’ll have to reconnect them, or continually turn them on and change the audio output back to the surround system. This system has stayed connected.- I like the white cords. most are black, but these are white. It blends in with my carpets and base boards for easier concealmentCons- there are a lot of cords running around.- they could include about 20% more speaker wire.- there could be more sound modes to choose fromOverall I’d say it’s a pretty good system. It helps to not have my speakers turned up really loudly. Normally I’d have to turn the tv up really loud in order to hear from the couch at a good volume, but if I only need to hear the rear right speaker, it doesn’t need to be as loud. My neighbors appreciate that I’m sure.

This system rocks! I am so impressed with this system, it’s awesome! I had three sound bars over the years and they all took a crap in about a year. The last sound bar I had was an LG that cost over $1,000 and that took a crap a little passed the expiration of the warranty. The sound and bass this system produces is way better than any of the sound bars I’ve owned. Pull the trigger, you won’t be disappointed!

Remote DOA
Sound overall is good for the price. But the unit came with a defective remote. I didn’t realize this until I mounted all the speakers and ran all the wires. Amazon will only return the entire unit, which I am not about to do all that work two more times taking it down and putting it back up when the new unit comes in. I am working with the warranty to get a replacement. Otherwise I may have to order a universal one, which is not ideal for a brand new unit.

Seriously impressed. I’ve worked in the audio engineering field and sound design and this unit sounds great for the price. As long as you have an idea on how to get the best settings from your receiver you will be happy with this set up.

Decent starting setup
The system came, no damage to the box or the system. Set up was easy, I will attempt to add images later. I am using this with a Gaming desktop PC and using the optical audio cable. The speakers out of the box sound really tinny. Mess with your equalizing, I had 1kHz as center and set it to +6 and then on either side +3 and the rest +0 and it sounds better but not quite right. I WISH there was physical equalizers or at least a bigger screen to showcase all 7 ranges.You need a pair of wire strippers, it comes with copper wire with a nifty little dark gray line down one side of the cable. I dubbed that ‘Black’ and the other side was ofc ‘Red’It took 10 days for it to arrive. For whatever reason Amazon seller decided to use USPS and it got sucked into the pit of no return in ‘Mid Carolina Nc Package Sorting Center, US’ It stayed there for 6 days before FINALLY moving on.I’ll update this down the line if an issue occurs.

Amazing speaker setup
Exactly what I needed for a starter surround system. The audio makes a huge impact for most rooms of medium size. You may want to consider getting additional speaker wire and test fitting locations before you attempt to mount.

Great Audio Amp
This was a replacement for a Samsung system that went south!Delivered July 30, 2021Pros:1. Great Sound :-)2. Completely wired System.3. Easy to Setup.Cons:1. The speakers that come with the system are 6 ohm speakers and the amplifier needs to be configured to use the 6 ohm speakers. It would have been nice in the quick setup guide to point this out with instructions on setting up the system to accept the 6 ohm speakers so that you do not have an impedance mismatch.2. The manual must be downloaded from the Yamaha site on the Internet. If you like a printed manual you should have a laser jet printer. The manual is 112 pages of awesome information.3. If you have an old turntable, you need a preamp to use it to play your old records.4. The speaker wire that comes with the system is extremely thin and I would suggest buying 16 gauge speaker wire which will have lower resistance thus having a better sound.Overall:1. Yamaha still makes great audio products. I’m happy that Yamaha has not gone to China and that the amplifier in manufactured in Malaysia.2. I would recommend this system to anyone who wants good audio at a good price.3. The amplifier delivers 100 watt power to the speakers so whatever speakers you use, it will probably handle very well.

Kudos to Amazon tech support!
After 20 years our old system gave up. This system fits our budget and has everything you need . Only that the wire to connect the speakers were not enough. Because of our set up, this was not a plug and play scenario. We called tech support and we were connected to a rep from the Philippines and because of time difference we were connected to another rep from the Caribbean when I called the following day. Both tech were equally good. They went far and above our expectations even calling Yamaha tech the following Monday when the office opened. They did not pass us from one tech to another. Each tech made sure that the issue is resolve before they let us go. These are hard working representatives, not the lazy ones who pretends you called the wrong department.

Fantastic sound
This home theater system is fantastic. I set it up for cinema sound as I have a small living room with speaker stands. Easy to set up once you get all the wires run. For the price it’s just fantastic. Six thumbs up.

My whole family is jealous! They keep coming over with beer for me to just watch. I have it connected to my 75” and with a new center too? I now buy movies instead of going to the theaters. Ehhh, we’ll to the most part anyway. Had my dad sit in the middle and turned it on. He looked up like he saw something fly from on end to the other with a big smile on his face!!! If your old school and still watch on a tv? This is a must!!!

An okay starter or upgrade from TV speakers or a soundbar but dont expect too much of it for music.
Dont get me wrong, this is by no means a ‘bad’ system to start off with or move to from a soundbar or your TVs built in speakers, but the center channel and the surrounds are severely lacking in power. the subwoofer is fairly sufficient and i have continued to use that and the receiver itself is super solid. since getting this system i have swapped my center channel and all 4 surrounds to speakers from klipsch and added a second, larger subwoofer. now im pretty happy with its performance for music.

Defective Yamaha product.
Purchased this system in August 2023. Was working fine for 3 months. Then I was watching a movie and it just blew out. Returned to Yamaha manufacturers almost 1 month. Customer service is poor. Still waiting for repairs and I’m lost without my music. Would never purchase this brand ever. Not a happy customer.

Great set for the price
Setup instructions could be a better, or actually included. Google for instructions. I have a few components like xbox, Apple TV, and blueray player connected directly to the receiver, I also have my smart TV set up to send the audio from streaming services like Netflix and prime tv through to the receiver. Setup for devices connected directly to the receiver is farely straight forward, however setting up the tv to send audio to the receiver was a little more tricky. Once done though, my TV remote is capable of controlling the audio of the receiver. As to the sound of the unit, I am no audiophile, however it sounds pretty good to me for watching live shows and movies. I would purchase again if I needed another receiver combo.

5.1 Surround at It’s Finest!
I have been looking for a well built home theater system. I wanted something that was at least 5.1 and gave me an immersive experience. I bought this set and bought 16 gauge wiring. I put the satellite speakers on the ceiling, hid the wires inside my attic, and dropped them on the back side of my tv.This comes with 12 gauge wire but 16 gauge works so much better.The sound is phenomenal! I have never turned it up full blast because it is very loud. The subwoofer gives very low bass. When you watch something with 5.1, it sounds like its coming from every direction!I am very impressed with this system. It gives me exactly what I’ve been searching for.

Good quality unit for a budget.
Good: Sound is nice. Certainly not crisp, but for a budget unit its a strong contender for most households. Bad: Struggling to get the monitor and HDMI output to work (menu is displayed but doesn’t seem to be a throughput of video). The instructions don’t really cover this element of the unit (which is strange) and google searches haven’t helped solve the issue….but I will keep trying different options.Overall though, its good value.

Waste of money
If you like big sounds, clear sounds, and a full range… Do not buy this system!!!The bass sounds like a frying pan hitting an oak wall!The highs will make you want to jump out a window in at least a ten store building!!Let’s go back to the beginning, unless you’re under the age of 42 good luck getting the wires in place!!!Yamaha, stick to 2 stroke outboards!!!!

Please if you’re new to this stuff. This is where to start. Absolutely worth every affordable penny
Definitely a good beginner set up. I’ve had an old Sony receiver from circuit city. First time for modern surround and digital everything. I definitely researched this unit before purchasing. Very helpful. I set it up as virtual cinema because I don’t have the space. It still surrounded me. Awesome. Clean sound and great bass that is not over powering but you know it’s there. Big difference with a sub you can power rather than regular house speakers. Don’t be intimidated by the owners manual. USE IT! There is a lot of great things this unit can do. One page at a time. It walked me through very very well. I have everything set up. Gaming, and cable box run through receiver. Oh not to mention my 4K everything looked and sounded 100% better going through the receiver rather than plugging to back of tv.Thank you Yamaha.
