    Love it

I love this laptop. The images look great. Battery runs out quickly and it’s pretty heavy which are the downsides so far. I love the back-lit keyboard but I wish it came with instructions so I don’t have to Google how to change certain settings. Overall I am enjoying it. I thought I’d have less lag on games but still experiencing some lag issues.

    Amazing laptop for its price

All in all a very solid laptop on a budget. If I had to point at one spot I wish they had added more to it would be the ram and maybe the option to use a lightning cable to charge it in addition to the fast charger provided

    Pros and cons

The laptop came well packaged with seals so the receiver can see if there was tampering with the box. Plenty of protection for the computer so it does not become damaged during transit.Setup was easy, and you basically needed only follow the W11 prompts. What I liked:1. packaging for safety of the product2. easy setup3. amazing performance and graphics display with games like the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry series, and Ghost Recon games.4. I love the full backlit keyboard, the colors of which you can change in the app. I also really like the large size of the screen and excellent resolution. What I did not like:1. The hinges are very tight and because the screen is mounted in plastic it feels cheaply constructed. I read some 1-star reviews that reported problems with the screen. I can see how that might easily happen because of the plastic construction and the overly tight hinges.2. The fans are VERY loud when playing a graphics intensive game. I like to game while watching TV, and for the first time she complained about the noise. I’ll need to get a cooling pad or maybe settle with less than stellar graphics in the games. The fans are not noticeable when doing casual work.

    amazing laptop

Its an amazing machine, I’m really impressed with how good this laptop is, it runs games smoothly as I’ve ever seen, the keyboard its solid and it doesnt feel chepa, the screen its just so bright when it needs to be. ive been using it primarily for architecture software and gaming and it handles everything from Revit or Lumion up to modern warfare III

    UPDATE: Arrived not working

Okay, I was hasty before – the laptop booted up with no touchpad support. After trying a bunch of things and rummaging on the internet, I found a passing comment that there is a function key to turn the touchpad on and off. I don’t know why it booted up with that off – not very clever!Laptop seems very fast and quite robust. I look forward to using it.

    Awesome laptop

I absolutely love this laptop. It’s a 4060 and not a new 4080 or 90, but it gets the job done. I got it during a sale for less than $1,000, which made it more worthwhile. It plays every game I throw at it smoothly at max settings. The keyboard is smooth and responsive to my presses. The screen is gorgeous. It feels sturdy and well built. The description states that the memory speed is 4,800mhz, but performance settings shows at it being 5,600mhz. It does run hot when gaming, but that’s expected. The battery is good, but that is obvious as it’s a gaming laptop and not a web surfer laptop. Later down the road I will upgrade the memory ram and SSD.

    great overall

Theres white lines only visible when the screen is completely black. other than that runs incredibly well. NOTE: graphics card is insanely powerful and will only run games well if its plugged in due to power levels

Good for gaming, but NOT for portability

I specifically purchased this to move from PC to a laptop, so I can go over to my friends’ houses to play together, but I found out that this only performs well when the power cord is connected.I set it up so that it would be on high performance, even when the power cord is not plugged in, but the game will lag and characters will stutter. This was for Overwatch, PUBG, and Diablo 4 on the lowest in-game settings. However, if you plan to be stationary with a laptop, yes this could be the one for you.Keep in mind, playing on battery will last an hour to two before it requires power, depending on your in-game settings. With the power cord plugged in, I was able to run D4 on Ultra settings. Below are some things you should do before playing your games.- On Device Manager, AMD CPU-Graphics must be disabled, and the driver should be updated for the GPU. It will NOT update automatically.- From control panel power settings, put it on high performance, and not power balanced.

    Very powerful!

Getting deployed soon, I mainly game on my desktop, I needed something that could play games and entertain me while I’m gone. This thing is better than I had hoped. Plays everything flawlessly. Battery life while browsing the web is great. Laptop stays super cool outside of gaming. Solid build quality. Best bang for the buck. Got it on sale for 999.

    Awesome performance with one setback

Great pc better performance. The only bad thing is that one of the USB-C ports failed within 2 months. I hope the rest of the ports don’t start failing soon, other than that it performs as well as some desktop gaming pc but it’s portable.

    Good For the Price

It runs all my games great and was worth it for the price. The only downside is that I haven’t been able to get the touchpad to work on the computer since I received it.

great computar, but hdmi port stopped working

this laptop is great for gaming, the battery holds for a long time, it’s quiet and does get too heatedoverall a good device, however, the hdmi port stopped working, it doesnt seem damaged and i wasnt rough with it, took it to work, used it at work, went home and plugged it to the tv and for some reason it doesnt register, i tried restarting and fn+7 to no avail, hopefully it will fix itself in the future, at least the screen is large enoughedit – i installed nvidia driver and it solved the problem

I was so excited but then..

The laptop is wonderful itself. But understand that when you purchase the PC off of amazon that they may not send the correct charger for the laptop. I had this problem twice. I thought the laptop was broken so I bought another one after returning the previous one. Same problem. Then we finally figured out the issue, the charger isn’t even close to what you actually need for the pc. Pc is fantastic just have a charger before purchasing it.

    A steal for $1,000

I was looking for a gaming laptop during black Friday deals, and for this price the specs are ridiculous. I tested out some games, it runs games on max settings at high FPS, it’s cool temps for the most part, the turbo mode makes the fans LOUD. This is the best deal I’ve ever had on a laptop, don’t hesitate if you can get this for $1,000 or lower! It’s worth noting that the 17.3 inch screen is well.. big. It’s a larger screen than i am used to on laptops, i can see how some would not like the big screen, personally i am enjoying the screen size, it just takes some getting used to. The laptop is also hefty and heavy! Very large charging brick as well! This is easily the best laptop I’ve ever owned so far, great machine!

Big screen fast after changing 1 config

Ok so I do 3D cad design I was having this freeze like or lag but the case is it was slow and knew it have to be something with the Radeon card sin the 3D software I used is compatible only with NVidia son the laptop have like a smart select from the Radeon to the Nvidia but it comes with this lag problem so all you need to do is restart your laptop press F2 to go into bios and in one of the menus you will see and option that says something about graphics auto change it only to Nvidia and save the bio and wala now you got a badass gaming laptop with no lag

Best computer with a balanced price. top of the line quality

I bought the system knowing that I would be adding more system. Ram and more ssd memory and after using it and doing the upgrades. It was well worth the investment. The speed of this laptop is incredible for the price. I bought an acer in twenty seventeen and i’m still using it and transferred it to my music to record and live stream. As we know, newer games are larger in size. Bigger graphics and more computer processing. So that’s just the fact that you always need to get something new to handle. The newer software and acer is The best product if you can only afford Balanced prices to meet your budget and it was well worth the money!

Great for gaming, bad for portability

Works great for gaming!Pros:-beautiful and fast display-VR ready (although at less than ultra settings)-CPU is more than capableCons:-Its BIG AND HEAVY-the power supply is literally a brick. both in size and weight. Like seriously you are going to tell your friends to come feel how heavy the power supply is on your new laptop. The power supply alone is heavier than my last laptop-Battery does not last long at all if you are doing anything more than basic browsing with power saver on-could use more RAM (but its easy to upgrade)

    Excellent computer and delivery

Laptop was packaged securely, came with a cool laptop case that isn’t flimsy. The machine is heavy but so durable feeling. The computer startup was seamless, took all of 30 minutes. Very impressed for $950.

    Acer Nitro 17 Gaming Laptop | AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS Octa-Core CPU | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060

Not bad I wanted a 4070 but this 4060 will dueBloated with acer crapware as expected but that stuff will be clean installed away soon enough mcafee really acer yikes !No heatsink for it’s stock m.2 which is disappointing it is efficient idle wise but stressed it gets near 90cKeyboard is nice and the touch pad takes getting used to until you get what it’s default setup is like right clicking lol found it’s the bottom right corner so that is good to know heheNot nice of acer to lock the limited bios settings for tpm, this is a silly feature waiting for issues.Just happy bitlocker wasn’t enabled !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :DBut then again 11 home was upgraded to pro within an hour.Think eco mode is buggy and cause spotty hesitations doing anything like moving mouse/clicking …. there is always a pause.Have to see what battery life is really like as time goes byBy the way the power brick is insanely heavy what’s up with that acer it’s nearly the weight of the laptop lol worst part about the laptop atm.

Excellent gaming laptop with high speed, no noise or latency. Super happy.

Reasearched like crazy before deciding on a gaming laptop for my son. This one has excellent built, good screen, gr8 refresh rate. Its extremely quiet and quite fast. My son gets 1500 fps on munecraft with this laptop. He was super excited. I dont see any con with this laptop after 4 months of use. ASUS has won a loyal customer now.

Works with Ubuntu, but not Linux Mint.

I tried installing Linux Mint on it, but it had boot problems after the install. Likely because the hardware is so new. So I installed Linux Ubuntu instead, and it worked fine. One thing to note: The webcam also doesn’t work on Linux, likely because the hardware is so new, and Linux hasn’t been programed to work with the new webcam in the laptop. But these issues might be fixed with future Linux versions. Other then that it works great!

This is it, this is the laptop you’ve been looking for

This laptop exceeded my expectations. I can play any game I want min 60fps. I got World of Warcraft up to 175fps and was blown away. I can stream two webcams and play video games with maybe 25% usage from the processor and onboard graphics. If you’re looking for a great gaming laptop, this is it!

    Great value, nice display

Plenty fast, Xtra nvme slot for more HD space-gen4, I now have 3 TB. Ram expandable to 32 GB, a few say even to 64 but mfg. doesn’t recommend and I can’t find info on anyone who has tried. G-sync only seems to work if you change bios settings to discrete GPU instead of Optimus. On my Acer predator GM7000 2TB nvme I added a copper heatsink and dropped it 7-10°C to 50’s. Most games run 50-60 fps on ultra.

I am ignorant when it comes to computers but I read the reviews and decided to get this one. I am playing BG3 and it is the only thing I use this computer for. The firstcouple of hours I played the game it was great but now it is slow and laggy, maybe its me, like I said I am computer ignoarant.

    Tremendous Value

This 16″ laptop has the most features, at the highest specs, for the lowest cost. I spent months reading reviews and comparisons to other laptops, and I decided on this model because it offered the best value. So if that is your primary concern, buy this laptop.I’m a creative entrepreneur who also games, so I needed a machine that could be fun while also making me money, yet without looking like a typical gamer laptop. The Nitro will play all of the latest games on Ultra and run them perfectly. The 4070 has 8 GB of VRAM, and in most situations this is plenty. There are a few games that require more for the highest quality textures, but you can toggle a different feature off to compensate, and it’ll then run it at a high FPS. The DLSS and RTX on some games help it run even smoother. This laptop has excellent cooling, with multiple vents. The fans are not as loud as I thought they would be. In fact, when you use the included Nitro software, you can toggle it for everyday use and the fan is near-inaudible. There’s an even quieter setting for absolute silence. The fan does get loud when playing a few intense games at max, but your headphones can block it out with in-game sound. The same is true for most desktop towers, and is the nature of gaming. The screen is excellent, with vivid colors, high brightness, a 165 Hz refresh rate, and a 16:10 ratio. The extra vertical height serves a valuable purpose when reading documents and editing images in graphic design programs. It’s also pleasing to the eye. The thin bezels add to this appeal.Lots of connection ports. Fast Wi-Fi and ethernet. The keyboard is slightly squishy, but it’s fine, and I use a full external keyboard anyway. The backlit keys are fun, useful, and can be modified in 4 zones, or turned off. The included webcam isn’t stellar, but it works like you want it to.The only concern I had with this laptop is the 16 GB of RAM. They are high-speed sticks from Hynix, but when I multitasked in Photoshop, Chrome, and other editing programs, or while gaming at max settings, it would sometimes use 95% of the RAM. That’s not a problem with the hardware, because RAM is designed to be utilized at its fullest for hours at a time, but I knew that I’d be doing simultaneous video and audio editing while browsing that would require more RAM, so I upgraded to 64 GB G.Skill RipJaws. It turns out that this was overkill, and I never utilize more than 32 GB. The 16 GB is fine for most creative people.Similar situation with the built-in SSD. It’s a fast model Samsung, but I needed more space, so also upgraded the SSD from 1 TB to two 2 TB Samsung Pro 990s, to fit the extra m.2 drive bay. There is no third bay for a SATA SSD platter, as there was on the previous Nitro model. The laptop battery is huge, but this laptop supports USB-C charging. I purchased a 140 watt portable USB-C battery with a 240 watt cable. When plugged-in, this charger provides all of the necessary energy to run my applications and keep the battery at max. This lightweight charger makes trips to the library easier. However, once plugged in, Acer notifies me with a brief message that the laptop is not receiving the ideal amount of power. Unfortunately there are no 240 watt portable chargers available on the market at the moment. Some day soon they’ll have 240 watt chargers and the larger brick will be obsolete. To conclude, this laptop can do everything you need a laptop to do, while also playing games at max, and it provides a tremendous value.—Here is the information I gathered about this machine, from various reviews and the internal readouts after owning it. I wish Acer added this to the sales page to have helped with my initial purchase, but since they didn’t, here it is for you, to help with your decision.Acer Nitro 16 (AN16-41-R5KC) 2023Launched: January 2023. Not sure why anyone would give this less than 5 stars…

Overall Build Quality: Laptop is nice and thicc. Thick plastic casing and has some weight to it. Screen is really nice and only thing I would say that’s, “wrong” with it is the colors. Some pedant in these reviews mentioned the colors looking washed out on certain images. I’ve only noticed that once on some yellow background and it’s so minimal I wouldn’t knock any points for it. Because the screen is really nice. So nice in fact, that I now want to replace my 144hz 1080p monitor on my main PC. The keyboard is really nice too. When I’m casually gaming I’ll use the laptops keyboard but I still prefer a nice ,clicky, mechanical keyboard. Speakers aren’t super loud if that matters to you but they sound okay.Cooling: They used liquid metal on the CPU and GPU instead of thermal paste so the temperatures stay below 80 degrees Celsius without any additional cooling. The fans have only blasted one time for me and I was gaming without the laptop propped up. Overall, the laptop is very quiet and stays cool. Only issue with the liquid metal is it will be a pain to change out in the future and you might want to take it to a professional to replace for you.Battery: I’m able to do an entire session(8 hours) of Ableton music production on just battery life… Haven’t tried recording yet but I’m not worried. The battery also charges very fast and lasts a long time, which is nice. I haven’t tried gaming on battery life but maybe I will and add to review later.Gaming/Screen: 10/10 for gaming, what I would expect for a laptop at this price point and it delivers. No need for an external monitor, I’m able to play Counter Strike 2 on this laptop alone without issue. 165-185FPS at 2K but can probably improve a lot dropping to 1080p. There’s obviously delay but visually unnoticeable. I played DOOM(2016) on Ultra at 2K resolution with steady 185FPS.Optimus: Laptop has advanced Optimus. You can also bypass Optimus altogether and have the laptop run solely on the 4060 GPU bypassing the IGPU. Very nice laptop.

Best gaming laptop, for the price

This Acer might be the best option for price to performance, right now. The 4060 and 7840hs are more than powerful enough to drive the 1920×1200 resolution at max settings, high refresh rate in every modern game I’ve tried out. It’s really a perfectly balanced set-up, for spec, that should last quite a while. The laptop has solid build quality, stays pretty quiet in all but the Turbo setting (I generally just use Performance. Nearly the same clock/ CPU speeds, but fans aren’t maxed out), and has great repairability/ upgradeability (just unscrew the bottom plate, pop it off, and everything is right there). The IPS screen is quite nice, and the extra vertical space you get with the 1920×1200 res, over standard 1920×1080 really benefits the viewing experience. Keyboard is pretty good, and the RGB is solid, if you’re into that (I use it as key lighting primarily). Not a huge fan of touchpads without deparated mouse buttons, but this one is overall fine, I just use a usb mouse when I need it. Speakers aren’t great (standard for laptops), but, the laptop comes stock with DTS:X, which makes a huge difference. It boosts the sound a ton, and adds a ton more depth and scope to the sound. I’d highly recommend keeping it installed, and running it. I don’t even use headphones (as i normally would), it’s so good. I’ve been able to play everything I own at max settings (modern games included), taking advantage of the 165hz Gsync panel. May have to enable DLSS, or frame gen, etc. when dealing with RTX, but the 4060 has it covered. Temps are awesome. In the heaviest loads, GPU maxes out around 70c and CPU gets to the 80s. Overall, I think it’s an amazing value for a gaming set-up, and really well balanced in the spec department, and would easily recommend it

    Best Gamer for the price

I really like what I got with the Acer Nitro 17 Gaming laptop It sports Amd Ryzen 7 7735HS(Comparable to an Intel I7) 1 t hard drive ,Nvidia Geforce RTX Graphic card thats flys… 17 inch(measured diagonally) screen. 16 gb of ram. Pros1st . For the price getting all this for $967.00 is probably the best bang for your buck out there.2nd. The computer screams everything I throw at it it plays from BG3 to Coldwaters.3. Does not get hot on you legs like previous models do to 2 cooling fans .You legs will get warm but very playable.4 .The keyboard has this cool rainbow affect lite up (I really like it).5 .The buttons on the keyboards are very responsive and comfortable6. The options to speed up the processor and if your technical get to play with …It’s there.7. Built like a brick poop house.. This laptop is not light but it’s built8. The graphics flow smoothly and are just awesome to look at.9. 16 GB or ddram runs everything (this is on of the most important things when you buy a computer.10. Delivery and packaging came very fast foam inserts protect computer from being damaged.Cons1. This computer will get warm but nothing to worry about.2. I recommend everyone buy a gaming computer for people who do office work there is just so much more you get from a gamer than an office computer but you need at least 2tb hard drive for that. This only has 1.3. This is heavy..Manageable and remember the screen is 17 inches.. People who buy a gaming computer with 512 versus a 1 tb hard drive because it cheaper don’t do it Windows takes up almost 200 of that. This Acer Nitro 17 is perfect not just for a gamer but a professionalWho needs to add a lot and needs the speed to do it.. When people talk about apple or intel integrated graphics will run the game don’t listen to them.. Oh they will load but no way are they playable. That said In my opinion If you can get this computer (this one not the ones that get mixed in with other Acer computer reviews on Amazon)for under 1000 dollar…Buy…Buy…Buy!! You will be very happy with it..

    Another one with touchpad DOA

I bought this at the worst time. I took a week to even unpack it, and then got sick, got put on some meds that knocked me out a week, and had surgery scheduled and didn’t have as much time as anticipated to set it up. I installed multiple versions of Linux on the machine, and the touchpad wouldn’t work for any of them, even after much troubleshooting and diagnostics. I finally broke down and installed Windows, still no touchpad. But I had enough delays to push me outside the easy Amazon return window. I think it is worth the tens of dollars to replace the touchpad myself and see if that works rather than deal with the manufacturer warranty.I didn’t think it would be that big a deal. I mostly use keyboard shortcuts and mostly use it as a desktop computer so I would use my trackball instead of the touchpad anyway. Good thing, because this is a beefy computer. I take it back and forth between my desk and my guitar practice area to record and display sheet music. I forgot though that I do a ton of sports photography. For serious edits, I am at my desk with a full keyboard and trackball. But I do tend to cull and crop photos while watching a game or movie on the couch, and with the laptop being so large, it is not easy to set up the trackball. I can’t even imagine if you use a mouse.Other than that, it seems like a great computer. The monitor is sharp, it is plenty powerful for the games I play (graphics rich, but not fast-twich). I mostly bought it for doing video editing and mass photo processing, and it is noticeably faster than either my actual desktop or last laptop. One thing I particularly like about this one is that you can use the USB-C to charge it. Not fully – it won’t keep up if you are keeping under load – but it does give extra lifetime, and if you mix in doing basic web browsing or document editing with loading the CPUs it can actually recover some charge. Good thing, because as heavy as the laptop is, the power brick is HEAVY. And since I use it as a desktop, it usually isn’t trivial to unplug and dig out of where I’ve got it buried on my desk. Most high powered laptops take the “if USB-C can’t fully replace the power brick, we won’t bother to support PD at all”, but that is a nice little benefit to this one that it’ll take any bit of power to keep the battery life extended.

one of the best values out there for recent generation gaming laptops

My 8-year old Acer Aspire Win10 laptop is still working, but is not capable of running Win11, and since support for Win10 ends next year, time to think of getting a new generation laptop. This new Acer Nitro 17 is a beast, and at a great Black Friday price. With the 17-in. display, RTX 4060 GPU , Ryzen 7 7840HS CPU, and 1TB SSD HD, this would be a really decent gaming laptop. I don’t game, but this thing will be capable of equally-demanding video editing/transcoding or 3D modeling/engineering/design apps. This laptop also comes in a variation using an Intel i7 CPU for about the same price, which made for a tough choice since both models of CPU are similar in performance. I ultimately went with this AMD processor because of slightly faster RAM speed and slightly lower power consumption, so hopefully it will run a little cooler as well. (But frankly, either CPU would be good). This laptop boots up fast and runs like a champ, with a clear, sharp, and bright BIG-screen display (which also means a full size keyboard underneath); I’m thrilled with its performance. The jury is still out on Win11, but I guess that’s something I’ll get used to. The only upgrade I’m considering is doubling the RAM from 16 to 32 GB, and possibly a 2TB SSD if I ever get close to filling up the 1TB model already installed. This is a GREAT large-screen laptop at a good price, especially if you can catch it on a price dip like Black Friday. I’m a big fan of Acer, and this laptop is highly recommended!EDIT:After 2 months, decided to double the RAM to 32GB after noticing Windows 11 utilized over 25% of total RAM capacity even when running at idle, not leaving much excess for really intensive apps or heavy multi-tasking. OEM RAM was (2x8GB) DDR5 5600CL46 by Hynix, a well-regarded brand…. YES, 5600MHz memory speed as opposed to the slower 4800MHz speed shown in the listing specs, which is a nice bonus. Several good brands to choose from for the RAM upgrade (Corsair, Crucial, Hynix, Patriot, Gskill, etc.), but one stood out. Kingston Fury 5600CL40 SODIMM’s not only run at 5600MHZ speed, but also have better latency (CL40, as opposed to CL46 for the other brands). Price was reasonable as well (in fact, cheaper than most of the others; and co-incidentally, using chips made by OEM manufacturer Hynix), so I definitely recommend Kingston Fury RAM as an excellent upgrade for this AMD-based Nitro 17 laptop. CPU-Z utility shows the new RAM is working fine at 5600 MHz speed and CL40 latency rating. (see attached photos for before-and-after CPU-Z displays of RAM memory, 16GB old vs. 32GB new). Now when laptop is running at idle, Windows 11 only seems to use about 12% of RAM, leaving much more for app-related purposes, so everything should run more smoothly and quickly, even when multi-tasking. This motherboard is capable of handling up to 64GB of total RAM, but from what I’ve read that much is overkill – an unnecessary expense and excessive RAM that will never get fully utilized. 32GB of RAM seems to be the sweet spot for maximum efficiency in this system. Makes this fantastic laptop even better than before!

    Fast and Feature Packed

The Nitro A17, with the Ryzen 7840 and the RTX 4060, is a great laptop, with tons of ports 3x USB A two of which are gen 3, 2x USB C gen 4 on the back, HDMI, and a micro SD card slot. It plays any game I can find at full no problem. It has loud fans when gaming and in turbo as you should expect. Though in quiet mode it is very quiet. You can use the HDMI to play shows and you will not hear it. The battery life varies widely depending on usage. I get between 3 and 5 hours. Though if I was using heavy gaming I would expect only 2 hours. My only complaints so far after a few weeks of use is the seeming lack of USB C charging. The documents say one of the c ports is power in though the cable I hooked up seems not to work. And it is a USB C charger for a laptop. Second is the keyboard and touch pad,the touch pad is big and as such is easily hit while typing. Causing issues and the placement of the keys on the right side of the keyboard is not for me. I hit the wrong key so many times I bought a wireless keyboard mouse combo. All in all I for the cost I could not have gotten a better deal on it. And it provides me all the power I can use and more.

A Wonderful Machine for a Reasonable Price!

This laptop is stellar! Been using it for over a month and so far I can say this is one of the best purchases I’ve made when it comes to tech products.Pros:17-inch display with great picture quality.Excellent graphics and frame rate (can run Cyberpunk 2077 on fully maxed and get a solid 70-90 FPS consistently, for example).Good for music production, video editing.Fast speeds with every application.Good cooling, it does get hot running intense games for longer sessions – as expected – but temps never got to a dangerous level. I purchased a ~$20 cooling pad and it corrected this.1TB of space.Price is defiantly fair for what you’re getting. Was researching for a few days before Cyber Monday and this was the best hardware for the best price I could find.Cons:Battery life isn’t as impressive as everything else with this machine. I use it plugged in most of the time anyways. It’s a beefy laptop with everything packed into it and the 17-inch display, not the easiest laptop to travel with. Just get yourself a nice case/bag for it.This has quickly became my primary gaming/work/everything computer. I’ve barely touched my desktop computer since getting it. If you’re thinking about this laptop I don’t think you could go wrong. Highly recommend.

Desktop replacement with a gorgeous screen and a nice surprise.

Explanation of pictures – Two computers side by side shows the bright colors of the Acer Nitro 17 display vs. my wife’s Lenovo 5 Slim which I had considered but dismissed after seeing the display at a local retailer. The other picture shows that my system came with DDR5 5600MHz vs. the 4800MHz it was advertised to have. Bonus for me! :)A quick recap of why I ended up purchasing this computer.Unfortunately we are in a position of having to downsize dramatically and our desktop computers will be going in to storage. My wife and I are both avid gamers, currently really in to playing Baldur’s Gate 3 a couple times a week with some friends.I knew I needed something with enough grunt to play most any game I threw at it for at least 2-3 years, my previous experience with the 60 level (860M) GPU told me that this would be a good enough level to handle that want. I needed to have a CPU that would be able to handle my day to day work, enough umph to handle games, be higher end to remain serviceable for a good few years, and be efficient. My biggest want was a big vibrant display, followed by power port on the back, current gen ports (HDMI 2.1, USB 4 Type C, and USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type A) , DDR5, and last but so far away from least would be build quality.GPU is handled by a Nvidia 4060 8GB (would have gone 4070 if they had a 12GB version, but all I could find was 8GB). Performance different between the 4060 and 4070 is ~15%, not enough different to justify the price. While looking at this there was an Asus ROG with a 12th Gen i7 and a 4070 but it was built on an outdated system board that only ran DDR4, the performance gains going from DDR4 3200 MHz to DDR5 4800MHz is about 6-7% which brings than GPU advantage in to check. The CPU going to the Ryzen 7 7840 vs the 12th gen i7 gives about 5-7% as well. So there goes most of the gains. Sure some games won’t be hindered by the loss of CPU or Memory and the 4070 will knock the 4060 back down, but as games get more advanced and more CPU intensive, I like having the extra grunt and the extra RAM speed. That was my reasoning for staying with the less expensive 4060.CPU, I’m an AMD fanboy. I have been for years. Ever single desktop I’ve built since I started building have been AMD. Started with AMD K5 P166 way back when. Then K6 200, 233, K6-2, Duron, Athlon, Athlon XP, FX, Ryzen 7 1700, Ryzen 7 5700X, and now Ryzen 7 7840HS. I opted for the Ryzen 7 over the Ryzen 5 (7640HS) which was available in a Lenovo I was comparing against, and interestingly enough the one my wife ended up with. I know this CPU will handle what I need for a long while and be very efficient.Display. Boy howdy, let me tell you this thing is gorgeous. Bright (in the picture it is at 50% brightness and it looks just as bright as the Lenovo 5 Slim 16″ WUXGA display at 100%). Color reproduction is great, not the best in the world but let’s be real here… this laptop does not cost that much. For a 17.3″ display that puts out this much eye melting beauty is a steal. Blows away others that cost $500 more. Just look at the picture. Speaks for itself.RAM – 16GB, enough for now. And by some hiccup mine came with 5600MHz DDR5 instead of the advertised 4800MHz. I call that a win and it will surely help down the road.Build Quality – I was most worried about this and sort of still am. I’ve owned HP, Lenovo, and Dell. Never been happy with the HP. Dell held up great. My old Lenovo from 2014 was built like a tank and was what I held on to until I purchased this one. That system had a 4th Gen i7, Nvidia 860M, and 16GB RAM. It handled most things great until recently, it has been retired to being a garage computer. It doesn’t feel cheap. The hinge is crazy tight. The palm rest doesn’t flex under weight unless you push really hard. The keyboard doesn’t dip while typing. The display doesn’t shake at all while typing. Keyboard feels solid. No missed keys while typing this long review. Touchpad is a little cheap, wish it were a bit more accurate or made of a more slippery material so my finger wouldn’t skip while dragging slowly. But let’s be honest, I’m using a mouse when I do anything that required more precision than a touchpad can deliver. Time will tell if it holds up. The black plastic surface is a fingerprint magnet so keep a microfiber cloth for when you want to wipe it off. With all of that being said I am purchasing the 4 Year extended warranty for this laptop which means I likely won’t have to make a claim because that’s how it goes with these things, you know what I’m saying. All in all, I really do like this computer. I wasn’t completely on board at first but after using it for a few days I am excited to spend the next few years gaming with this system. Before I close this out I would be doing you a disservice if I didn’t say that yes this thing runs Baldur’s Gate 3 butter smooth at full resolution (2560×1440). Not a hiccup. And it looks soooo good :).If you made it this far, thank you for reading my review.

Takes a good amount of abuse without failing…

This unit is designed to be a replacement for a gamers desktop machine. It gets pretty close. I am able to run nearly all high-end AAA titles with no stuttering. Some graphical glitches at extreme (overclocked) settings are usually the norm. It runs games great at unclocked speeds with the extreme 165Mhz. But I wanted to see what would bring the system to a halt, and I tried to do some DVD ripping (nothing illegal). After about 5 minutes, the system overheated and shutdown. Very good IMO. I want a machine to shut down when it’s overloaded. This tells me that the system is tailor-made for a specific group of users and optimized for them. All upgrade parts were purchased on Amazon. I upgraded the memory with Crucial CT2K16G56C46S5 (DDR 32Gb CL46) and added two M.2 drives (TEAMGROUP TM8FP7002T0C311 (2 Tb) with graphene heat spreaders). I chose the latter because this is a laptop and therefore has little room for thermal attachments, and the graphene heat-spreader was just the ticket for this application. The memory was my second choice as the first set did not run in the unit. The first set that failed to run were the G.SKILL Ripjaws (F5-5600S4040A16GX2-RS). My second go at research indicated that the laptop could not use CL40 memory. Anyway, the Crucial CL46s are running superb, so I can’t really say for certain whether the CL timings were the culprit. Cheers!

    Great mid level gaming laptop

Upgraded from a Predator G9-793. Huge performance jump. I can play WOW, COD, Diablo 4, Shatterline, Battlefield 2042 all on ultra settings and they look beautiful with frame rate from 60 to 100. I did step the setting down by one just to keep the fan from running on full all the time. Battery life is as expected from a gaming laptop. This laptop is not small but it weights 3 pound lighter the the predator laptop I replaced. Colors really pop on the QHD screen. I now have to upgrade my extra monitor because it does not look as good. Definitely love the Acer laptops, well worth the money spent. I had to upgrade the wife’s laptop as well so she does not steal mine.My only con is all the bloat ware that comes pre installed. Easy enough to remove, just takes time.

Fast, affordable, but loud and max out gpu fast!

Went from a old 1080ti Predator to this. Old one just wasn’t cutting it. This one has a awesome prime day sale plus I got 2x 990pro and 32gb crucial memory(max it takes).(edit) I also just noticed it does not support HDR huge thumbs down, display lacks any pop.1.Biggest draw backs I noticed it’s kind of a pain to upgrade you need to take the whole bottom off 11 screws all of which do not want to come out of holes because of locktight used on them.2. Even when playing older games it will max out the GPU doesn’t matter if it’s 1080 or 2k constantly have the 4060 under full load and fans running high and the CPU under full load.3. Performance is good not blown away by it. Didn’t realize the 4060 wasn’t running under a full power load would of been better off with a 3080ti laptop with full power that were on sale.4. Needs more 3.2 USB ports has 2 USB3 but the USB ports are on the right handed side causing me to loose more room for my mouse space poor design. Put one on the back or the other side. The back does have 2 USB-C so ill try a adapter and see if that works. ( it does)5.Bios leaves much to be desired. Really has everything blocked off and does not give you much control over it.6. Found out it does not have HDR I guess I just assumed it did for playing games. It says it does but doesn’t show up on any games it shows up greyed out so still investigating. But when I researched it says it does. ( It does not!)7. Just the constant CPU and GPU at 100% gets super annoying always runs about 75c-80c that’s with a huge fan $80 on the bottom as well. I do have everything maxed out in terms of what I can do.The good1.Thermals didn’t seem to get much hotter then 71-78c on the GPU-CPU under full load for long time. Up to (82c-85c update 9-27-23) use a good fan.2. Processor seemed to do its job was kinda worried to how it compares to 13th gen Intel.3. Has a extra m.2 drive for a 990pro (on sale right now) and can put new memory It does run at 5600hz max is 32gb! Has run everything I’ve thrown at it. Don’t use gaming setup under the nitro app keeps fans at full blast use performance. Fans at full blast can rival and 747 Plane in Db range if you leave it on gaming profile. Do not do this you cant even hear games. It leaves fans on full all the time in the Nitro Center.I do have it all upgraded running 2 990 pros 2tb each one with a heat sink one without about 10c difference. 32gb of memory. Maxed everything out I could. Runs great with a $cooler it has one big fan in the middle can always keep it around 70c -75c (w/o it runs in the 80s). Don’t expect to be running many games on ultra unless they support dlss 3.2. But overall alot of games on medium or high. Some on ultra. I’m happy for the $1000. Sale I got on it. Put another $400-$600 in it and should last me 5-7 yrs of mid tier gaming. Definitely use the Xbox PC game pass! Just wish it had Hdr and a better screen.

    VALUE for money spent

I purchased a lower model of of this computer, compare models numbers to see what I am talking about. This computer does what I want and can be upgraded. I play games with my nephews, I am not a super gamer and I am very happy with this purchase. I think this would be a good starting gaming computer. I love the big screen and keyboard and I am getting used the weight.

    A Beautiful Gaming Laptop

This is the first time I’ve ever truly splurged and gotten myself an actual laptop meant for gaming. As someone without a lot of space, I just don’t have anywhere to put an actual PC setup even though it would certainly be the cheaper option. This laptop absolutely did NOT disappoint. I was a little confused at first during the set up because the touchpad mouse was disabled and unfortunately I had no mouse yet to use with it. I couldn’t find the F key that was needed in the manual and the options Google turned up didn’t work either so I was beginning the believe I got a faulty touchpad. It was about an hour later when I accidentally hit F10 instead of a different button and by a stroke of luck, that was the hotkey needed to enable my touchpad mouse!Putting aside that small issue, once it was figured out I had the time of my life. I had moved over all my games with an external hard drive and proceeded to load up one of my favorites, Mass Effect. I’d just like to say that…this is how the game was meant to be played. I’ve played it so many times over the years but it’s never looked this beautiful. The graphics are absolutely stunning no matter which mode I ran the laptop on.I played my games with the laptop plugged in of course, that’s the way it’s suggested to be done. When changing the modes of the laptop, the fan sound can of course be a little loud (it definitely made my cat jump) but it’s not so loud that it bothers me. I played with my air pods in, connected to the laptop through Bluetooth, and barely noticed the fan at all. What I also didn’t notice was any over heating issues. The keyboard never got hit like my old laptop used to, and that used to make gaming extremely uncomfortable. All in all, I’m so glad I got this laptop. It’s like I’m experiencing my old games for the first time!(Side note, I also tested my heavily modded Sims 4 game with all expansions/add ons. It loaded with absolutely no lag and ran so much smoother than my previous laptop.)

    Unit Out Of Date

When the laptop was started, the unit was out of date and I had a difficult time getting it corrected but was successful in the end. Also, the Antivirus Trial was expired and could not be used. Overall the machine seems OK. Most disappointed about the anti-virus issue.

    Runs Cool!

Amazing Laptop, runs very cool and my games are amazing on this. The software for the graphics card auto adjusts based on the game demands. I upgraded the RAM and the SSD, I now have plenty of RAM and space to play and add more games. I’ll return with updates should I encounter any issues! I highly recommend this Laptop. The large screen is amazing!

An excellent laptop, but not even close to 17″

This laptop replaced my 10+ year old Toshiba Qosmio gaming laptop, and to say it was an upgrade is a huge understatement. Fast fast fast. And one of the advantages of Acer laptops is that they have the least amount of ‘bloatware’ pre-installed, so very little to clean up/remove. I absolutely love this laptop, but hate Windows 11 so might retro back to Windows 10. It comes with a great protection sleeve, also.My old Qosmio was a full 17″ wide laptop. I was expecting this to be the same size, but it isn’t even close. Even the product description of the screen size does not specify ‘diagonal’ or have any * to say that the advertised 17.3″ is anything other than what a typical laptop purchaser would expect – 17″ wide. This isn’t even 17.3″ diagonal! It is just over 16″ measured width. To be clear, it is a great laptop but don’t expect to be getting a 17″ WIDE unit. On the plus side, even putting this laptop in its protection sleeve, it still fits in my 17″ laptop case with room to spare. It is heavier than most laptops of the same size, given the extra cooling afforded the processors. The power supply is a BRICK that is very heavy to tote around. I bought a second power supply to keep in the office so I only had the laptop to carry back and forth. The fans keep the laptop very cool, even during stress testing I did with some graphic intense gaming. My CoreTemp program never registered above 130 degrees and during normal web browsing, it never exceeds 100 degrees.Lots of ports for just about any connection you might want to make. Lightning fast 1Tb SSD accesses my files super fast.

    Very impressed so far!

I am very impressed with this laptop so far. Although it’s technically a gaming laptop, I am primarily using it as a computer networking and cyber-security student. It seems plenty powerful enough to run RAM and GPU intensive apps, as well as multiple VMs simultaneously. I love the backlit keyboard and the fact that it has a 10-key keypad and multiple ports for attaching numerous accessories. I also love that the charging port and HDMI port is in the back rather than on the side. The fans are a bit noisy when gaming or running other RAM/GPU intensive apps, but it’s not unbearably loud. Battery life could be better, but it’s decent and sufficient for completing minor and basic tasks while unplugged. I wish it came with more RAM installed, especially considering it has a 32GB upgradable capacity. It is a bit heavy and bulky, but as long as you aren’t carrying it around while you’re working on it, it’s not too bad at all. Overall, I am very impressed and happy with this laptop so far!

    Good value

Have been using it for a week, and it does exactly what I need to work with Maya, Lender, and Photoshop as well as coding editors. Quality is ok, doesn’t look bad for the most part, just the bezel around the screen looks cheap. Everything is as expected for the price but with great performance, good screen and very good speakers. Hopefully battery will last, I will update if that’s not the case.

    Best computer I’ve ever had

This is, by far, the best computer I’ve ever used. It doesn’t take up a ton of space, and the price genuinely wasn’t that bad. It was a big bigger than I expected, but that’s not really a problem. All in all, 10/10 would buy again.

    So far so good.

The main thing I look for for in a gaming laptop is something that doesn’t have much gamer aesthetic, as I’m not too fond of loud colors, sharp corners, or RGB logos on the back. This one is the closest I found that wasn’t a Lenovo Legion. I love the muted color scheme, not too much branding. The screen is big and vibrant, almost more vibrant than my primary monitor for my gaming pc. Having it shipped with 16GB of RAM is nice, honestly should be the standard these days.It gets hot and loud when playing demanding games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and RDR2, but it handles them like a champ on Ultra settings. One thing I will say is that it’s a bit difficult to upgrade things like the storage and memory, because it requires you to pry it open with a credit card or similar thin tool after getting the screws out, so keep that in mind if you plan on upgrading. For this price point, I’m overall happy with the purchase.

    IT RUNS GREAT!!

The media could not be loaded.

I have been playing on it for a whole month now it hasn’t given me any trouble besides this. It has to stay plugged it 247. It has 2 GPU one turns off and goes into idu if your not playing a high on game. But once your in a game it turns back on. The speakers are great and same with the graphics. But if you do unplug it know that the minute the laptop goes bellow 40% it tanks hard. Also for some reason (this may just be me) but when my brother tried to download apex to test it it wouldn’t download the game and if I would have let it download it would have probably taken 1-2 hours to download but that was the only high in game we have tried other than raft.

    Exceed expectations so far

Overall:Had laptop for 4 months now playing games on it almost every day. Graphics and sounds are good. What worries me was the ability to play some games on steam that some users says they could not play due to certain specs and cpu they run on. Not a problem for me haha.Heat and fan:I used this laptop on a daily in a colder room so I welcome the heat it generates although I can see why some users dislikes this. I don’t mind the sounds of the fan also. It is a bit loud but not as bad as my ps4 that sounds like it’s running on jet engines. I was able to tolerate the fan sound of my ps4, this is nothing.Battery life:Without the power cord, the longest lasting is around 2 hours running which is less than ideal but what do you expect from a gaming laptop that needs power for performance? Without the cord, the games I play graphics is a bit down and game speed so it’s better to have the cord plugged in than not.

    Good at the price.

Used to play BG3 and EVE Online thus far and runs fine for both games. A little slower at startup than my other laptop but a $1000 less so its to be expected. Picture looks good and sits around 160fps. Keyboard is okay, my only complaint is the TouchPad makes typing frustrating with big hands (cursor moves and I end up typing in places I didn’t mean to) overall I’m happy with it, let’s see how long the machine will last at its current usage.

Great gaming laptop except for a few major issues

Firstly, i bought this black friday on a payment plan because i do not have the type of money to buy it plain and simple.Day comes around, and the laptop is here! it was beautiful, massive, but very nice display.I had read that the fans were loud, but it is an entirely other thing to hear than to read. Max speed is 6000 rpm, and holy crap, I actually think I almost went deaf. It is crazy loud at max, and of course you can set it manually, but if you have any hopes of playing basic games at decent graphics, you are gonna need to run at 4k-5k rpm. (you can run rdr2 at ultra and other major games like hogwarts or fortnite)If you can get past that, only two more issues! After about a week of usage, a new Nvidia driver was ready to install. My cpu had been having trouble, and it led to my gpu having to run insanely fast to keep up. For instance, i was stuck at about 210 mhz for the cpu, and it was i think 1800 mhz for the gpu. I downloaded the drivers, and yada yada yada nothing happened. Talked with support for 2 hours, nothing got fixed.Lastly, after i returned it, I checked back with the reviews to see if anyone else experienced these issues. Whatd you know, the review count went from a whopping 420+ to about 390. Guessing Amazon didn’t appreciate some of those reviews
