Much Money, Mid Performance for the budget gamer

If you are looking for a powerful and affordable CPU for your next PC build, you should definitely consider the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X. This processor offers 6 cores and 12 threads, which means it can handle multitasking and demanding applications with ease. Whether you are gaming, streaming, editing, or rendering, the Ryzen 5 5600X will deliver smooth and responsive performance. The Ryzen 5 5600X is based on AMD’s Zen 3 architecture, which improves the IPC (instructions per cycle) by up to 19% compared to the previous generation. This means that the Ryzen 5 5600X can achieve higher clock speeds and lower latency, resulting in faster and more efficient processing. The Ryzen 5 5600X also supports PCIe 4.0, which enables faster data transfer between the CPU and other components, such as SSDs and GPUs.One of the best features of the Ryzen 5 5600X is its price. At $159(price may vary), it offers an outstanding bang for your buck, especially when compared to its competitors. The Ryzen 5 5600X outperforms the Intel Core i5-10600K in most benchmarks, while costing less and consuming less power. The Ryzen 5 5600X also comes with a decent stock cooler, which saves you some money and hassle. The Ryzen 5 5600X is a great choice for anyone who wants a high-performance CPU without breaking the bank. It is compatible with most AM4 motherboards, so you don’t have to worry about upgrading your whole system. It also has a lot of headroom for overclocking, if you want to squeeze out even more performance. The Ryzen 5 5600X is a versatile and reliable processor that will serve you well for years to come.I hope you enjoyed this review of the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X. A complete Game Changer…..Literally!!!

The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X processor has revolutionized my PC gaming experience, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. This little gem packs a powerful punch, significantly boosting my computer’s performance and making it the ideal choice for gamers and multitaskers alike (while not breaking the bank). With its snappy processing speed and six cores, my PC now handles everything I throw at it with ease. Whether I’m playing graphics-intensive games or running multiple applications simultaneously, the 5600X effortlessly keeps up, eliminating annoying lags and slowdowns. What really impressed me was how well it handles the more modern games. The processor’s architecture and high clock speeds ensure smooth gameplay and vibrant graphics, making every virtual adventure feel incredibly immersive. And the best part? It doesn’t break a sweat, even during extended gaming sessions. I also want to mention that I was able to Overclock it effortlessly from its base 3.7GHz to a blazing 4.65GHz while maintaining <35°C using the MSI MEG Coreliquid S280 CPU cooler.Installing the processor was a breeze. The compatible AM4 socket made the upgrade process seamless, and I didn't encounter any compatibility issues with my existing components. Plus, the processor's energy efficiency meant I didn't have to worry about upgrading my PSU either. The Ryzen 5 5600X's affordability is the icing on the cake! Compared to other processors in its league, this one offers outstanding value for its price, making it an excellent investment for budget-conscious gamers and computer enthusiasts. The only downside I could find is that it doesn't come with integrated graphics. However, that wasn't an issue for me since I have a dedicated graphics card (AMD RX6650 XT 2X OC). For those who rely on integrated graphics, it's essential to pair this processor with a compatible GPU.In conclusion, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X processor is a true game-changer for my PC. Its blazing-fast performance, gaming prowess, easy installation, and wallet-friendly price tag make it a standout choice for anyone looking to level up their computing experience without breaking the bank. Highly recommended!

Best for the money, and the best for gaming, too.

The “X” model Ryzen processors are always cheaper than the ones with higher numbers and perform better for gaming. I only recently had to upgrade to this one from a 2600X I bought like six years ago. It’s extremely power-efficient and therefore runs very cool. My PC is set up to be silent, so it only has a 120mm liquid cooler and only spins the fans up to be audible if the CPU exceeds 65 C. That almost never happens with this CPU.

Nice chip, runs too fast and warm when idle

This is my first AMD chip (I’ve built probably 15 computers over the last 10 years and always used Intel chips) and I like it. It’s very overpriced, but that’s the market today and the Intel chips are too. I didn’t buy it for gaming, so I can’t comment on that. I just got it because I felt that it was offering more than the similarly-priced Intels were and I wanted to give it a shot.In general, it works fine, but I’m not a gamer and most people buying this chip will be buying it for that, so this review won’t help them. I’m happy with it, but there are a few things I don’t like that I will mention:I have done everything I can to limit it running high when not needed and yet, with 6 cores, and the machine at idle, it won’t run any slower than 1720 MHz, and I don’t understand why it won’t throttle down more. I’m used to Intel chips that will drop down to ~800 MHz at idle and use very little power, and run very cool. To be fair, I’m comparing this to a 10-year-old Core i5-2400, which was a terrific chip and remains so. Further, using a Cooler Master 212 cooler with 2 fans, it never spun them up to more than about 800 RPM, and the CPU rarely got about 30 C.This chip, with the current EVO V2 generation cooler with 2 fans(which incidentally, is a JOY to install compared to the older models, which really needed 3 hands), never drops below 35-36C no matter how little it’s running.I realize that the Intel Sandy Bridge series (the 2000 series) was one of the best-cooling chips Intel has made and I’m not bashing AMD here – as Intel has never cooled again quite as well as they did (IMO) with the 2nd gen Core series. But what does strike me is that while this chip can go much faster than my old i5-2400 system (which is still working just fine, but it’s 10 years old and I wanted to build a replacement before the day when something went wrong, and I didn’t want to move from win 7 to 10 on that old one) and has 6 rather than 4 cores, when I do CPU-dependent video conversions, this chip is only slightly faster than the 2400. And both are using the highest-end Samsung drives I can get, and on this system are attached to PCIe 4 connectors.I’m sure gaming is a different story, but when I bought this chip it was about $300 and I bought an ASUS X570 board to run it on, and both were overkill for my needs. (Though that ASUS has loads of SSD capacity which is why I selected it.) As I’m not a gamer, I might have been better off stepping down on the CPU.

    Best value for gamers

Probably one of the best CPU’s in the past 2 generations. It’s priced right and provides a great deal of performance per dollar. I’ve yet to stress it out and I have 3 of these CPU’s. The fact that it’s 65 watts means it runs cooler than some of the more expensive processors and you’re not going to see any gains going over 6 cores unless you’re really using software capable of utilizing all of those extra threads. You’re also saving power by running at 65 watts.

    Great processor, not great cooler.

First of all, the processor is great. Boosts to 4.65 no problem. Came with no bent pins in a brand new sealed box.The cooler on the other hand is not ideal. Under normal everyday tasks the temps remain around 30-50 degrees Celsius. When put under load (Cinebench R23) the cpu shoots up to 95°C (thermal limit), and begins to throttle to 4.45 boost clock. With normal single player gaming (Fallout 4, Elder Scrolls V in my case.) the temp usually tops out around 65°C.In short if you want this processor, get it, it’s great. But I would highly recommend getting an aftermarket cpu cooler, even a dirt cheap one will provide enough thermal mass to bring those temps down to a normal range, and avoid throttling.

    5.0 out of 5 stars

IT’S OK SO FAR, ALTHOUGH TEMPS ARE A LITTLE CONCERNING. I WILL BE UPDATING FOR THE NEXT MONTHS.

01/03/2024: I bought it for a build that I made a couple of dates ago. The Core Boost Perfomance and Performance Boost Overdrive features that help to boost the clock speed of the cpu further from the 3.7Ghz base clock make the CPU hit high temperatures (mine has hit 90C), but as far as I have read online, it seems to be the expectable thing and the CPU is meant to be able to work under those conditions. I will be upating this review every month for the next 6 moths or so; to notify about performance, quality or if something happens for however is interested in looking at a long-term review.

    50% FPS BOOST IN CS2

I mainly play Cs2 with competitive settings and wanted stable 240 fps+ for my monitor my old r5 3600 maxxed at around 180-200 frames avg and with this one depending on map or if playing face it my fps avg jumped to 300. I’m more than happy I bought this at a 1/3 of the cost of some the x3d cpus. this cpu is good enough to hold me over for years and these even come with a cooler.

From 4600G to 5600X, this is a good upgrade.

Just built a PC for my brother but only sacrificing with the budget Ryzen 5 4600G. 4600G is amazing at all when it comes to price and the inclusion of Radeon Vega iGPU, it just needed more performance to squeeze through for my brother’s PC. Noticed it when I used this and then moved to 5800X3D for my PC at the time. The framerate had a massive difference to Cyberpunk 2077. I still totally recommend the 4600G for the price and the package as a whole. With 5600X, the upgrade had a slightly bigger performance uplift compared to the 4600G.Used Thermalright Assassin X120 air cooler on it, it reached 78°c with Cinebench R23.Stock AMD Wraith Cooler is included. Gets the job done for casual to moderate gaming.

I thought it would do better against the competition

It’s inexpensive, and so far all my games run fantastic, but doing comparison benchmarks didn’t do as well as I was led to believe. It’s not a deal breaker, but I read reviews that said this chip smoked Intel equivalents. That’s just not true, and although this 5600x IS the best bang for the buck, it doesn’t exactly smoke Intels latest equivalent. I’m ok with that, but I originally was looking for the 5600x3d, and since that is only a MicroCenter exclusive, I feel a little bummed about not being able to purchase that. I’m ok, I’ll be alright.

I purchased this CPU as an upgrade to my Intel i5-9400F as a life-long intel fanboy, having used a range of i5 and i7 CPUs and even recommended or built PCs for friends utilizing intel CPUs as well. I needed something more powerful to help me do music production work without breaking the bank, and this fell into my watchlist. My friends who work in the tech industry convinced me to give AMD a try with this particular CPU, and it is mind-blowing the sort of performance this 6 core CPU is giving me, at easily 3x+ the performance of the old i5 I had (and I was thinking about upgrading to an i5-12600K originally). This is FAR cheaper, and I cannot imagine the 12600 provides any significant performance benefits – if it even matches the performance of this CPU in the first place – despite costing $80 more at the time of writing this review (there are no ongoing sales nor scalping at this time either). It runs cooler than I ever thought an AMD CPU could as well, never surpassing about 65 degrees Celsius while air-cooled on a Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler even at sustained 100% usage. I cannot speak for the included air cooler as I promptly threw that one out in favor of the larger Hyper 212, but then I would advise not using the included CPU cooler to everyone regardless of the CPU you’re purchasing, be it intel or AMD, cheap or expensive. Nevertheless, to reference my tech friends again, they do say the included cooler is not awful. If you’re purchasing this for gaming, the only game I have seen this CPU max out to 100% usage on is Star Citizen. Other games I have tested tend to reach the limit of their optimization or hit the 144 fps limit I have set on my PC long before the CPU gets maxed out, and it certainly outperforms my now-outdated GTX 1080 graphics card, as that will max out before this does in all but the most CPU-heavy of games (as mentioned, Star Citizen). This is seriously astonishing performance at barely more than what Intel considers a ‘budget’ price range. I cannot recommend this enough, especially to anyone who may be on the fence between Intel and AMD like I was due to prior loyalties. Give this one a shot and you will not be disappointed.

    If i could give a 3.5 I would

I have had this cpu for almost a year. I bought this as an upgrade for the Ryzen 3. I spent a good bit of money upgrading my motherboard and CPU cooling system. The performance of this cpu is not as significant as you would like to think. Also the cooling fan that comes with it would not work. I am upgrading my CPU this week, and will likely be switching to intel. I don’t know that the price jump to Ryzen 7 and AM5 motherboard will be worth it.

Will Be Cheaper on Black Friday, But Starfield Was Calling…

For the first time ever my Ryzen 2600 couldn’t play a first-person game at 1080P (GTX-1080TI). Of course, it was Starfield! Now, the game is fine, although it’s still an unoptimized pile of spaghetti code…but it’s playable and “smooth enough for government work.”Would I rather have a 7800X3D? Of course, but my oldie-but-goody AM4 system is still rock solid, and the 5600X should give me another coupla years. There’s no real need to overclock this chip for gaming, but it’s interesting to note that, like my 5800X productivity box, the 5600X responds best to undervolting with PBO instead of manual overclocking. If I were using this box for general productivity, which I’m not, that’s what I’d do. For gaming, however, PBO tweaks make only 0-3 frames per second difference, which isn’t worth stressing my VRMs over…Great chip. Reasonable price (which has already gone down a bit).

A great upgrade for an older AM4 motherboard as a reasonable price!

Plug it in, turn it on, then get a nice performance boost over your old quad-core processor! For heavy duty gaming, we upgraded the included AMD cooler – to keep the CPU temp below 60C, instead of up in the mid-80’s or low 90’s. (The included cooler works fine if you’re not pounding the heck out of it though). Highly recommended at its most reasonable price!

Great sale price after 1st. Full retail package. Arrived on time. This is my first RYZEN 5 build. Previous builds 7 3700x & 9 5900x. I had a much tighter budget this time. I’m pleased with performance.

    Great CPU

I have now installed two of these CPUs into my PC builds. I use these for general workstation and light gaming sessions in 1080P.I am someone that likes to play games from the Xbox Game Pass on our PC as well as Blender and Video Editing. This CPU has been able to function quite well in all of these task.I would recommend this to someone that wants a reliable mid-range CPU.

    A beast for gaming

I slowly went back to pc gaming from consoles. I bought a used pc from a friend. It had a 3200g on a b450m motherboard and a single stick of 8gb of ram. After I bought it I immediately bought an extra stick of ram for dual channel and a Radeon 7600 gpu. And, even though I was getting more than acceptable framerates in most games, the cpu was always pegged at a 100% and loading games like Halo Infinite took an eternity. Some other games ran abismaly, like Overwatch 2 for example, the cpu just wasn’t enough. So, I decided to buy this 5600x and a Tower cooler from thermalright (maybe overkill) on Black Friday and boy, it made all the difference in the world.Playing from high to ultra is now possible thanks to the cpu/gpu combo I have now, games load insanely fast and the cpu rarely goes to 100% usage now.All in all, it is a great cpu and I don’t see why you would want something beyond this for just gaming. Get this and spend hard cash on the GPU instead.

This is a great cpu that provides really good performance for different tasks (games, work, editing) obviously this would also depend on your GPU, but overall is an amazing cpu. I’ve purchased and used this CPU for multiple builds

    Performs Well

I actually wanted to buy this processor a year ago but was in high demand. I upgraded our granddaughter’s computer and used the AMD Ryzen 5600X with ASUS B550 Plus with Wi-Fi and Vengeance 16 GB ram, Western Digital Black 1 TB 5,000 mb/sec. Using a NVidia 760 video card. Runs very smooth and effortlessly. Performance showed CPU, Memory and Drive all working well.

Zen 3 Still packs a punch in 2024

Used in a new MSI B550+5600x+RX6600 build.Couldn’t be happier. Love that AMDs CPUs are unlocked for OC and everything imaginable can be altered if you wish. PBO+Curve optimizer offers even better performance than stock. This isn’t a marginal improvement-if you’ve won the silicone lottery you’ll cash it in here.Great CPU. If I’d had a bit more money, I’d have gone for the 5800x3d for longevity. I may still.

    Always Been a Fan!

Never had any issues with this CPU, and ive built 10+ computers with this same chip!if you have the money, id recommend spending the extra $20-$40 on getting the 5800x, but this 5600x is more than capable to run games as well as streaming on twitch without issues!

Best value processor on the market that can handle pretty much anything

This processor is a beast. If you’re looking for a budget cpu that can play pretty much any game out there this is the one. I’ve built 2 systems with this processor and they both are running extremely well and very stable. Easy to install and the fan included is solid. This is a great product if you want power and performance on a budget.

Had a bit of a long drawing out drama, but AMD made it right

I purchased this a good while ago so I have some experience with this particular processor. It performed fine for me for a while until one day I woke up and my PC would turn off immediately after powering it, so I knew this was going to be problem. I spoke with both AMD and the manufacturer on my mobo to try out what was going on, or rather who I needs to honor their warranty. It ended up costing me a lot because to narrow it down I purchased a second mother board and processor did not work on it either, so it was the processor. I put it under a microscope to just to make sure that I hadn’t bent any pins or damaged it in any way, and I it looked completely fine. So I sent it back to AMD, and my cost I should mention, and they returned a new one to me a few weeks later. It was not an ideal situation but since they didn’t make me jump through hoops to get a replacement, I consider that to be good customer service and I can appreciate that. Though it was hard watching the retail price of this chip continuously drop throughout all the this, but that’s how things go in the tech industry I suppose. All-in-all I will probably be looking at AMD for my next upgrade, on my processor I should say, have had different experiences using their GPUs.
