    Excellent!!

Perfect replacement for a failed drive in my Mac. I did have to a a temperature monitoring device as the Mac would not recognize the built in temp sensor of the drive.

Worked great, but died too soon

While it worked, it was great. But died in a little over 2 years, which is way too short even for a spinning disk. All data transferred to the drive was unreadable due to failed sectors on the disk.Disappointed it didn’t last longer

    It’s conventionally good

It stores up to 1 tb of storage, and it does that well (Although slowly because it’s still limited by being mechanical).

    Nice size 2TB

Nice size – window 7 addresses the whole drive. Let’s one continue adding information without getting rid of older information.

    Entry level, just as advertised

I own two of these drives. First drive was- relatively- difficult to install for me. I’ve owned or worked on a number of drives that are larger than 3tb and in Windows 10 at least, never ran in to the issue I had; drives can format in GPT or MBR and for some reason, both of mine decided they would detect as MBR instead of GPT (again, Windows has always known to use GPT in the past) which had me scratching my head until I learned that if you have a drive larger than 3tb, the system has to be told to use MBR instead of GPT. Again this was never anything I had to deal with before despite using drives larger than 3tb in the past. I suspect that Amazon and Seagate have probably had to deal with returns over this I’m not sure what mechanism my other drives have used to prevent this but both my 6tb drives required that tweak. With that out of the way- even though the listing says “NEW” and my invoice/order details said new, I did end up getting a drive that was opened on my second order… and Amazon did the fulfilment too! Fortunately Amazon very quickly accepted a return and got me a new drive that had never been opened. The drives are pretty quiet, but that sort of comes at a price- they are pretty slow. I do not think you’ll be able to beat the price though, the value is there, the quietness is there, I can live with the slow speed.I will try and update my review later, if I have any issues.Update: Even though it’s only been a day since I wrote this review… this drive is SLOW. I maintain my position that this is still a 4 star product given the absurd per dollar storage, but, speed might be a consideration for you. As I had stated before, I have two of these drives purchased within a few weeks of each other. One was used to create a backup of all my older drives, and one is being used to replace all my older drives, then the first would be wiped and then used as a backup for the second. This means that I ended up having to do a few 4 tb (the sum of the data in my previous drives) writes. It took about 18 hours each time. Last night I did a virus scan- and system scans typically took about 4 hours with my previous drives. Last night- 7 hours. The total sum of the data that had to be read remained functionally the same- probably within 10 gb. I want to note too that- I shut down my computer for a few hours using start menu -> shut down, and when I booted this morning the newer of the two drives had an error that Windows had to fix during booting. I ended up spending about an hour on the computer doing normal tasks and then decided to see if the issue could be replicated. On a second boot, I did not get the error again. Can’t imagine what I could have done to cause it though. The virus scan didn’t claim it found anything so I do not believe it altered any files and it came from a cold boot after about 3 hours so I do not think heat was an issue- heat also probably not an issue because I have a mesh front case (Corsair 450D) with a pair of 140mm fans that push fresh air across drives in a room that is about 72 degrees.I hope that this information helps you make your decision. Again, I still maintain that this is an adequate value for the $140 spent on each drive- though I am certain you could get a better drive I doubt you could get one at this price point.

    Works Great for Plex Server

I added this to my Plex Server as a backup for all my content and I already has the same HD as the primary storage devices so I trust it. I’ve never had any issues, and if I need more storage I’ll like get another of the same.

Seagate has been good to me! CLONING!

This 2TB Seagate BarraCuda is replacing a 7 year old 1TB Seagate BarraCuda with Win7 in an old Dell Inspiron. There was nothing wrong with my old one. I always run error checks on the disk & it was healthy. But, 7 to 10 years is the average life expectancy on an HDD. I have my files backed up on an external Seagate Drive just in case it ever failed. But, I do NOT want Win10 & I did NOT want to lose my Win7. I also needed more space. I’m a music fanatic & I have a lot of WAV files. They eat up most of my HD. So I bought this new one & cloned it from my old one.I had to purchase a SATA cable & power cable to connect this to my motherboard. When I connected this on my motherboard & turned on my PC, I could feel it humming along. I opened Disk Management. I named it, but forgot to assign it a “letter.” Don’t forget to assign it a “letter” or you can’t use it. I did a “full” format in Disk Management to check the new drive for errors. It took hours. But, I would recommend a “full” format instead of a “quick” format when installing a new drive. Just make sure you format the NEW drive & NOT the OLD one or you’ll wipe everything out. (There is no need to do this from the Command Prompt.)Once I formatted it, I used “Clonezilla” to clone it in the BIOS. You need a flashdrive to use “Clonezilla” & it’s FREE! There are a few good tutorials on YouTube on how to use “Clonezilla.” If you’re cloning an HD, I would NOT recommend using cloning software that clones from your desktop. How are you supposed to clone your Windows OS when it’s being used? I’ve never understood how this works. And a lot of people that use these programs complain that they can’t boot up from the new cloned drive. You need to clone from the BIOS. It took me a little more than 2 hours to clone 500Gs with “Clonezilla.” It was fast. Faster than doing a backup.Once the new Seagate drive was cloned, I removed the old drive & swapped the SATA cable from the old drive to the new drive. I didn’t need to change anything in BIOS. Presto! The NEW drive booted right up.CLONING NOTE: This is how cloning works. It clones everything including the empty space from the old drive to the new drive. When cloning a smaller 1TB drive to a bigger 2TB drive, it will partition the new drive & separate the extra 1TB on a NEW partition. (Always go from smaller to bigger when cloning.) You can leave the new drive partitioned, name that separate partition & give it a new letter designation & it will show up as a separate drive on your computer. I didn’t want this. (If you named your new drive before cloning it & gave it a new letter, as soon as you swap it with the old drive, Windows will automatically change it to the primary “C” drive.) So going back into Disk Management, I right clicked on the OS (C:) partition and checked “expand volume.” (Don’t worry about adjusting the numbers. Windows will figure out how much space is left and expand it all the way.) So everything in the “C” drive is on a SINGLE partition with lots of extra space. It’s that simple.I took my old Seagate HDD & put it in my fireproof safe in case the NEW drive fails. Now I have a backup of everything including my OS.So far the new Seagate is humming along. And it’s whisper quiet. It’s like having a NEW computer with that good old Win7, but with more space.I hope this helps!

    Hard Disk Drive

Use this drive externally with a hard drive enclosure… Wireless Hard drives aren’t very durable… They can lose connectivity relatively quick… I bought this to replace a broken external HDD… I would recommend this drive with an enclosure/dock instead of an external drive… Don’t buy external hard drives ever… Learn from my mistake…

Depends on your HD or SSD slots

My computer was not made to fit this, I believe it is currently sitting in the SSD slots of my computer haha. It is an awkward fit, especially for the connection cable, but overall it works well. The storage is nice (AND STILL NOT FULL). If I had the money, I would purchase another one so i can have MORE STORAGE ha ha. I recommend getting it, the quality and storage capacity of the product is well worth the price.

    Great drive

Just picked up this 8TB drive and it’s pretty solid. Hooked it up to my gaming PC and wow, it fits more games than I’ll ever play. It’s quiet, which is sweet, and the price didn’t knock my socks off. Had a little trouble with the cable fit, but once it was in, it was all good. If you need a lot of space and don’t want to spend a ton, this drive’s a good deal. Plus, it’s been running without a hitch – no weird noises or anything. Definitely a thumbs up from me!

    Seagate BarraCuda 8TB Internal Hard Drive HDD – 3.5 Inch Sata 6 Gb/s 5400 RPM 256MB Cache

This is a replacement drive for one that is failing. Data has been totally moved from the failing drive to this new one already.I have had a variety of Seagate internal and external drives over the years. I will say, this is the noisiest drive (internal or external) that I have ever had. I hope the noise is not a sign that this drive is destined for failure in the near future. I am concerned.

Just started using loading 5TB on for past day (computer usb 2.0 not drive fault)

I have started a transfer of 5TB one day ago and so far everything is going smoothly. The laptop I am using is limited to usb 2.0 so that is having large impact on transfer speeds, i am also using an external drive enclosure so both of those limit my ability to comment on the actual drive speeds because both of those are most likely the bottleneck before could truly say what drive is capable of. But no issues or errors in past 24 hours of non stop data write about half way there at 2.45TB transferred so far. Will update after transfer is finished the total time it took and also how drive hold up long term. Update 7/25/23 file transfer of 5TB completed without any issue and in pretty good ti,emconsidering my computer is limited to usb 2.0 since them i have had the drive on for twenty-four hours a day mostly everyday of the week because i am using it to stream Movies,Music and other files to TVs tablets and other devices with out any issues at all. Very happy to have all files backed up on two hard drives now.

SEAGATE HAS ALWAYS HAD GREAT STUFF

hats off to Amazon, got this the same day I ordered it super impressed, ran a clone on my failing [SEAGATE HD] LOL here is the date code of my old drive 2009-10-22, stated iminent failure but still worked a few weeks, I’ve ran seagates since the mid 90’s this cloned perfectly with Macrium swapped it out and zero issues so far after a few days everything is just as it was, more than happy with both parties, a big thumbs up

    Trooper

I’ve had this drive since 2019 and it’s been a trooper, i’ve had zero issues with the drive over the years and it stores a ton of data. My only real complaint is the write speed is nowhere near the speed of SSD’s but you can’t complain at the price point. This drive is awesome and i’ll continue to use Seagate for drives that don’t really need super fast write speeds.

Sweet spot for value in storage capacity and impeccable Seagate quality

Amazing value. Using this drive as the repository for a large and ever-growing collection of media files. I have been a Seagate fan for a couple of decades, owned many with zero failures. Love this new 8TB Barracuda, will probably buy a second one for backing up the first. Recommended!

Fantastic for storage, terrible for booting

The product itself is perfectly fine if you plan on using it only for storage. Do NOT use it for your OS. Your computer will take 30 minutes to fully boot up with it.I bought this because Windows was bloating up my old SSD and my computer was running slowly. Seagate has the Disc Wizard program which makes it easy to clone one disc to another.Except the first time it failed, wasn’t bootable, and I had to restore Windows, losing all apps and programs. Second attempt doing the exact same thing and it worked effortlessly. Only difference between the two attempts was a brief lunch break between cloning disc and unplugging the old SSD to boot with the new one. Not sure how that caused the first failure.

    Of course it’s great. It’s a Seagate.

If you already know Seagate makes great disk drives then I’ll sum it up by saying it does what Seagate drives normally do. If you didn’t know Seagate makes great disk drives, then now you do. You can’t go wrong with these things. I’ve still got 2 other ones that I bought 7 years ago and they’re still functioning perfectly. I’d imagine this one that I bought for my son will be no different. There’s no other company I’d recommend for disk drives, that’s for sure.

    Great drive

I needed an internal drive for personal storage and backups. This fit the bill almost perfectly and matches the size of the external drives I use for secondary storage.I put it in a 2009 HP and trasnferred 2TBs over in a few hours. Since then it has been a great drive with now issues so far.I would definitely consider the bigger versions but space usage doesn’t looks to be needed before the kids move out.

Perfect for combining multiple hard drives of data.

The Seagate ST8000DM008 BarraCuda 8TB is a standard 3.5-inch internal hard drive designed for mass storage needs in desktop computers. In this unbiased review, we will assess its various aspects to provide a comprehensive overview.**Storage Capacity (4/5):** With a whopping 8TB of storage space, the BarraCuda offers an abundance of room to store your files, games, and media. It’s an excellent choice for users who require extensive storage for large media libraries, backups, or extensive data.**Performance (3/5):** The BarraCuda 8TB is primarily designed for storage purposes, so it’s not as fast as SSDs or high-performance hard drives. It operates at 5400 RPM, which is a bit slower compared to 7200 RPM drives. While it provides decent performance for sequential data transfers, it may not be the best choice for tasks that demand quick access times or frequent data retrieval.**Reliability (4/5):** Seagate, as a well-established manufacturer, has a history of producing reliable storage devices. The BarraCuda series is known for its durability and dependability. However, like all mechanical hard drives, it is subject to wear and tear over time, and there is always a risk of failure. It’s advisable to have proper backups in place when using any mechanical drive for important data.**Noise Levels (3.5/5):** The BarraCuda 8TB is relatively quiet during regular operation but can produce some noise, especially when accessing data. This may not be an issue in a desktop setup but could be noticeable in a quiet environment.**Installation (4/5):** Installing the BarraCuda is a straightforward process. It utilizes the standard 3.5-inch form factor, making it compatible with most desktop systems. Users with basic knowledge of PC hardware should have no trouble fitting it into their setup.**Value (3.5/5):** In terms of cost per gigabyte, the BarraCuda 8TB offers a reasonably good value, especially for users who require a large amount of storage space. However, it’s important to remember that the price of SSDs has been steadily decreasing, and if you value performance and responsiveness, you might consider investing in a smaller SSD for your primary storage and supplementing it with a secondary HDD like the BarraCuda for mass storage.**Conclusion:**The Seagate ST8000DM008 BarraCuda 8TB is a capacious internal hard drive, well-suited for users with substantial storage needs, such as media enthusiasts, content creators, or those who require extensive backups. It offers reliability, straightforward installation, and decent value in terms of storage capacity. However, it is not the fastest drive on the market, and its performance may not meet the expectations of users who prioritize speed and responsiveness. Consider your specific storage requirements and performance expectations before deciding if the BarraCuda 8TB is the right choice for your computing needs.

Large capacity in a good price. Should last for another 7-10 years.

In short: I’m an IT guy and I find this drive highly recommended for local storage at home. I have many Barracuda Seagate disks of an old models and very happy with their performance and durability and they serve me for years… If you don’t like the idea of storing your precious data in the cloud (safe and sound as it may seem) then managing a local storage is the way to go. And these Barracuda Segate 4TB drives are great for that purpose as they have enough capacity for most users while their price tag is affordable.Keep in mind that having local disks require maintenance, and that hard drives do fail when they wear out – it’s not IF they fail but more of WHEN, as they all die eventually; even the enterprise level ones. So if you consider the route of a local storage backup server then you’d better make a backup plan in advanced for redundancy – if you only need 1 drive for your data then buy 2 drives. If you need 2 drives then go with 4. And so on… The rule is to always have an exact copy of your data in 2 separate (physical) places, either by manual copying between disks, or for the advanced users between us to setting up a RAID 1 array for automatic clone (mirror) of one disk to the other; even if it costs somewhat more (if not doubled) at first, in the long run when one of your precious disks fail you’d be very happy that you had a backup. So besides of the loss of the actual disk, your data is safe and sound since it is stored on the second disk you aimed in advanced for this very scenario. And in such scenario it’s a good time to go shopping right away for a new drive to replace the one that failed, since you no longer have redundancy once one had failed. And when it arrives don’t challenge your fate and waste time – go ahead and copy all your data from the backup drive to it to have redundancy once again. My own story and experience: I have many Barracuda Seagate disks. About 10 actually. From my experience with mechanical drives and with Seagate brand in particular is that they *last for about 7-10 years. And when we speak on mechanical hard drives it’s quite good. I had an old Seagate disk I stored data on, which was about 7-10 years old, and it failed about 2 weeks ago. I’m very glad that I spent some extra when I bought it and purchased a second one to serve me as a backup. So besides of the actual disk that died I didn’t lose any data. This one came to replace it and I’m writing this review while it copies my data from the backup drive. I trust that it will give me another 7-10 years of quiet before it fails too. I’d recommend to check your disks health every now and then and to pay attention for any “clicking” sound from your computer case – even after my rich experience as an IT guy I fell for that very scenario because I was too busy to open my computer case and check where the clicking sound had come from, and thought that it’s just from a dying fan… If I was paying more attention and take responsibility I’d probably replaced the disk before it finally died. There are many free tools out there that you can use to check your drives health and to let you know in advanced when a disk shows bad signs and needs a replacement. I’m using CrystalDiskInfo and I set it to launch at startup. So every time I restart my machine it pops-up and shows the actual disks health.*Hard drives will last depending on the user’s usage. If you’re only storing files on them for accessing later then they will more likely last longer. On the other hand if it’s your “scratch disk” for video editing or you create and delete huge amount of data on it on a daily basis and the drive is under a heavy load then it may last less. It also depends on the environment the hard drive is located and the airflow in your computer case. Here are some tips as an IT guy: carefully clean your computer case interior from dust with air spray cans or oil-free dental compressor every 3-4 months. Make sure all fans in your case are working correctly – ventilated computer case will make your entire system and disks to last longer and to perform better; computers don’t like heat. Don’t keep computers in cabinets that have no airflow from the front and back. Don’t force shutdown your computer by holding the power switch unless it’s your last result (if let’s say it hanged or crashed). If you take these tips into consideration then your hard drives will last longer.

Shocked how SLOW writes are (13Mb/s for large files)

Just rsyncing files to this drive and I am getting write speed around 13Mb/s for large files. That is old USB flash drive slow. Small files seem better due to the cache but once swamped, it’s a snail. Reading speeds seem fine. I knew not to expect much due to slow spin speed but this is far worse than I would expect.Tested reading from this to write to a faster 7200 rpm drive and the times were limited by the 7200 rpm write times at 24Mb/s. Forgot how slow spinners are. However based on cost and space, I still think this is a decent drive (assuming it’s reliable). Just don’t expect much performance writing.

Best data storage for the price.

I’ve been using this product for many years and I think this is the best data storage for the price. However, one of the drive failed after 2 years. Lost 7TB+ of data that I did not have backup. I suggest make backup.

    Bueno y rapido

Para ser un HDD pense que iba a ser más lento, si se pasan archivos desde un disco a otro es bastante rapido.

    I Like Seagate Hard Drives

Used a Seagate Barracuda 2Tb, 7200 RPM hard drive for a project build and it works great. I usually use 5400RPM hard drives but since Solid State drive are becoming more popular I thought I would go with a 7200 RPM hard drive to increase the speed of data access and boot time. the Solid State Drives are faster but Hard Drives still offer the most storage for the money. Seagate drives have always been a go to drive for me. Very Good Value also.

    Reliable

Have used about a year now with my Mac Mini M1. Using it ONLY as astorage… the mac has an internal 250Gb ssd. Must admit that at niteyou can hear a soft hum noise that is anoying. How ever it has been adependable device, so am looking to buy another for my othercomputer (the ssd failed on that mac).

2TB at this price point is unbeatable.

I have bought two of these. For secondary drives, there is no better choice.
