Favorite All-Around Lens
Portraits. Parties. Indoor Sports. Family Gatherings. Perfect all around lens. If I could only have one lens, this would be it.Great for small room close ups and can reach across a larger room to catch the moment without you having to get to close to ruin it!Highly Recommend! Good Glass, Great Photos.

Great all round lens
This is a very versatile workhorse lens. A lot lighter than my 50mm, although not as crisp. It allows you to get almost any shot without moving your feet. That translates into more photos.

A quality Canon lens
Purchased this lens to go with my R5 body. I grew tired of having to use the EF converter with my old 24-105. Love the lens and the quality pf images it captures. Fast focus and silent.

Great Kit Lens
Don’t let the fact that this lens is F4 dissuade you from buying it. The range is more than versatile, and L build quality of the lens makes it more than durable for field use. I’ve used this lens in the rain and in snow and have had no problems with it whatsoever. I’m using it on a Canon R6 so the benefits of the advanced features of the camera more than make up for the lens not being as “fast” as an F2.8. The added low light capabilities of the R6 more than make this a capable lens to use in lower lighting conditions than EF glass (IMO). I’ve got three other Canon Full frame EF mount cameras and have gotten just as good (if not better) images using this F4 lens on my R6 as with my 6D Mark II using an F2.8 lens. Worth getting for a single lens deployment to photograph a variety of things without the extra bulk of more lenses (35MM, 50MM, 85MM et al) or having paid the extra cost for faster RF lenses just yet.

Good lens. Don’t buy from Amazon.
The RF 24-105 F4 L is a good lens. Like all of the new RF lenses, the RF 24-105 F4 L gets high marks for aesthetics. It looks great. And it feels solid and smooth in use. The tapered zoom ring makes it easy to find by feel. The customizable control ring makes it easy to control a setting of your choice. (I find it useful as a quick way to adjust white balance when shooting video. I have it set to control other things when shooting stills.) Auto focus is fast and relatively silent. No complaints at all.In terms of image quality, the RF 24-105 F4 L is arguably the best zoom available with this zoom range. The Sony 24-105 F4 is close and may be better in some respects. The Nikon F-mount equivalent is not close though there is a Z-mount 24-105 on Nikon’s roadmap that is likely to be very good when it is eventually released. That said, the RF 24-105 F4 L is not perfect. It is consistently sharp in the center across its zoom range. It is noticeably less so in the corners. This comes with the territory when designing a 24-105 lens so it is hard to complain too much. The RF is at least as good, if not better, than the competition in this respect. Bokeh is decent. No complaints there either. The one characteristic that I find unacceptable is longitudinal chromatic aberration. (To be clear, this is not the easy-to-correct lateral CA that is often seen around tree branches in the corner of images.) It is most visible toward the long end of the zoom range. I’ve never shot with a lens before where LoCA was noticeable enough to be objectionable but it can be with this lens. Photograph white text on a black background at 105mm and expect to see purple bokeh in one direction and amber bokeh in the other. It is hard to believe that Canon considers this acceptable but two separately sourced copies of the lens exhibited the same issue. (To my surprise, Canon’s higher end RF 24-70 F2.8 L seems to have the same problem.) Fortunately, high contrast black and white images shot at 105mm are a worst case scenario. In most shooting situations, LoCA is not a noticeable problem. What is a problem is buying photo gear from Amazon. I feel compelled to record unboxings for *every* Amazon order that includes an expensive camera body or lens. I do this because it seems like every year there is a story about someone ordering high-end camera gear from Amazon and finding a brick inside the box instead of a body or lens. To be fair, I’ve never had this problem personally, but I did experience something almost as bad with the RF 24-105. In what marks a new low in shipping standards, Amazon shipped my RF 24-105 to me in an unpadded envelope. Three of the manufacturer box’s corners were bashed in. It had clearly been dropped at least twice. I love Amazon in general but order your cameras and lenses from a company that knows the proper way to package them. The bottom line is that the RF 24-105 is a good lens that I do recommend but it falls just a little short of the image quality I’m getting from my other RF L-Series zooms. Overall, Canon is to be commended for their lightweight F4 L series of lenses that combine a relatively small, lightweight form factor with high IQ. For whatever reason, other manufacturers (some more than others) seem unwilling or unable to maintain a commitment to top quality optics in a zoom that isn’t F2.8. This characteristic of the Canon lens system—both EF and now RF—is a solid reason to go with Canon’s new mirrorless R system over another brand.

Lighter and More Compact than its EF Equivalent
Lighter and smaller than its EF lens which I also own. I bought the EF adapter and was able to use the EF lens but it increased the length of an already long lens. Since I was going overseas, decided to get this RF lens as it’s lighter and more compact.True what other reviewers said – Amazon packaged this > $1300 lens in a plastic bag delivered by the USPS! Granted the USPS may have treat this package better than FedEx or UPS, it was a surprise to get this in a plastic Amazon bag without any padding. Fortunately, the Canon box looked okay with just a slight dent on one side. Lens seem okay too so not returning it.

So far a step up from the EF version
This lens does seem to be a moderate improvement over it’s EF mount cousin. One of my goals was to try to get the heft and weight down as much as possible from my previous kit of 1DX bodies. Not having to use the lens mount adapter reduces both weight and size.Typical of wide to short tele lenses, it has some imperfections that will be noticed mostly by the fanatic pixel peepers, but for 99% of the photography this lens will see, it is outstanding. One caveat about Amazon, they shipped mine in a paper envelope. I almost died when I saw the driver walk up with it. I don’t know what they were thinking except maybe saving a few pennies on shipping but that’s just careless. Fortunately the people who handled it along its journey were cautious, it arrived with no dents or damage to the box or the lens inside.

Not as sharp as the EF 24-70 2.8 II
Despite what the reviews say, the images are not as sharp as the EF version of the 24-70 2.8 II. It’s nice to have the extra range, but not at the sacrifice of sharpness (for me).

Excellent but pricey
I got this lens with an EOS R kit. It’s everything you would expect from a modern L lens: razor sharp, fast focus and great lens construction. But if I was to do it all over again, I’d get the “EF” version of this lens together with the control ring RF-EF adapter. The “EF” 24-105 f/4 L could be had for way less, especially if you’re willing to go to the second market; and with the $200 control ring adapter you’re still getting that extra programmable ring. It’s a great lens for traveling if you don’t mind the extra weight and aren’t looking for those extreme portrait bokeh scenarios. Sure you can only go down to F4, but that wide-to-tele zoom range is so freaking versatile. I found the IS to be terrific; didn’t do any scientific studies on how many stops, but you can easily tell that your hit rate is near 100% w/ IS turned on in most situations.

This lens is great for weekend warriors or studio use.
The good: great range and an excellent kit lens that works well for many settings that are well lit.The bad: product has rather poor contrast and low light performance. Conclusion: The build quality is great but the lens is slow. The zoom range is perfect for well lit portrait subjects and ideal with supplemental lighting. Best suited for a hobbiest as a kit lens or for studio use with well lit subjects.

If you’re looking to get into the mirrorless cameras and not spend to much on a lense. I think this is a great first lens to get.The quality of this lens is super high. Even at an F4 you great good separation of the background and your subject.

Tack sharp at f/4 at all focal lengths!
I have purchased several brands of 24-105mm lenses by different manufacturers. This one has a constant f/4 throughout the focal range. Also, it is tack sharp from edge to edge at f/4!! This RF lens is wonderful. It is in an excellent class by itself. Wow.

Very sharp lens with incredible IS
Shooting handheld at very low shutter speeds is a breeze with this lens. Excellent sharpness with moderate vignetting that’s easily corrected in post. No problem with lens creep, but there is a bit of knocking inside if carried with the lens fully extended.

Amazing that this is a kit lens
The fact that this considered the kit lens for the EOS R and RP just shows that Canon is taking Mirrorless seriously. It’s remarkably responsive and the added functionality of the control ring makes dealing with difficult or changing conditions a breeze.

It is much better than EF version, but…
It is a good lens, probably an amazing one if you do not have any prime or F 2.8 lens because there is a shift in colors and image quality. But it is way better than the EF versions, which were just waste of money!!!

Best Lens
This is the best lens for all situations. Very sharp. All pictures were taken hand-held by using canon R6. You don’t have to buy any expensive lens unless you are professional. Images stabilization on R6, and this lens is fantastic. I am using it indoor and outdoor. I am very happy. I have used canon MK 5d IV with canon 24-105; it was great too, but this combination is best and fun using. Canon’s R6 and this lens’s Image Stabilization is top rated. Overall 5*****

Clear picture at 200% crop
This lens really delivers much better images than those from the RF 24-105mm STM lens. Crystal clear at 200% crop at night. My first L series lens, paired with a Canon RP. The lens is not small, but not that much bigger than the STM lens, and not all that heavy. Brand new in white box, perfect condition.

Great, great lens.
I think this is currently the most affordable L glass (red ring) RF mount lens Canon currently sells, and it’s still not cheap. some call it the “kit lens”. Don’t be fooled by that either. This works and feel like a lens 3x as expensive. The images are razor sharp, like, I look at some and sill say wow. The focus speed and quietness are astounding. You’ll think it’s not even moving. It is absolutely a must-have every day carry lens.

Purchased this for my Canon R. It is a spectacular, well crafted lens. It focuses fast, really fast, as if it didn’t happen. It is weather and dust sealed and the images are extremely sharp. The control ring is brilliant, I’ve been using it to control the ISO, so convenient. Looks like I’ll be investing in all RF lenses from here on out.The lens came from Dodd Camera brand new in it’s original box complete with all paper work, lens case/pouch, and hood.

Great everyday lens
Wow, I have owned both copies on EF 24-105 lenses but there is no comparison to RF Copy. This lens is sharp and focuses quickly/silently. I have tried using EF lens with EF adapter on my EOS R but wasn’t satisfied with results.Update ** The lens continues to blow me away with image quality- other RF lenses from Canon have steep pricing and make it difficult to expand my RF glass.

Love This Lens
I have found this lens to be a very sharp and impressive lens. It works well for street photography since it has good range and is reasonably fast (f/4). To get a faster RF lens at this point would cost quite a bit more money and I just didn’t see the value for my particular needs. This is a bit of a heavy lens, and the build quality is very, very good.

This is a great lens. If you’re planning on just taking shots in one location and not carrying it long distances or up hills, this is perfect. Amazing autofocus, great range and dont really need anything else unless youre low light
The media could not be loaded.
Im used to shooting with the EF 24-70 mm and this is clearly a huge upgrade because of the responsiveness in focus. I doubt I will ever use the other lens again unless Im doing low light photography.Side note: I read other reviewsa and Amazon did a great job packaging this.Using this with an R5 seems intended and despite having a 10K arsenal of lens, the versatility this provides makes it my go to. The only thing I wish you can adjust is the friction in zooming in and out. It seems like sometimes it jitters when I try to zoom out slow and smooth.

EF v RF
I think a lot of buyers will wonder if it’s best to just buy the adapter for the EF 24-105 f/4 or buy the RF lens. I had the EF with adapter and bought the RF version. All facts considered it’s probably best to just buy the adapter. In terms of picture quality I don’t notice a difference. The advantage to the RF is the new control ring and it’s better balanced on the R6 than the EF with the adapter. By the time I sold the EF and bought the RF it cost about $800. It’s just not worth it. Of course for a person who doesn’t already have the EF version this is a great all around lens.

it’s pricey but it definitely cost that money, it works very well and the images quality is great, I use it with my canon R6 The only inconvenient is that doesn’t have all weather sealed in the mount so just make me nervous to think of using it during rainy days or other weather conditions. The delivery to Japan was sooner than expected which I really appreciate. The box came a bit broken in the corners.

love my new lens
this is definitely a huge improvement over the ef 24-105mm f4 as it is much sharper. Also I was able to update the firmware from canon’s site. I like the fact that Canon decided to make the lens hood that comes with the lens reversible like the sigma lenses instead of being snap on like the ef lenses where you would have to store the lens hood in a camera bag. Kind of weird to have a canon lens that has the lens creep lock on it as most of mine don’t have that…only my sigma and tamron lenses have the lens locksI’m glad with my purchase
