Ok, why is this as cheap as it is?

Been using this for a few months now and I’m trying to figure out how this thing has a 4090 and a really good processor, yet is priced this cheap. Its superb for gaming.A few things to note:- This doesn’t come with a built in HDD (the system drive is a 512gb model), but it has an SATA space for a drive about 2tb is size or smaller. A 5tb internal won’t fit.- Removing the case can be tricky in this model, but not impossible. Namely remove all three sides that are NOT where the audio jacks are first, then remove that side. Otherwise you risk breaking the internal components. Might want to look up a video to be safe on this one.- RAM can be changed out, as usual for laptops.

    Good laptop after some tweaking

I got this laptop a few days ago and have tested it for nearly 48h.Some things to consider• Pretty good screen for a laptop. 144hz and good looking out of the box• Laptop frame feels solid but isnt overly heavy.• The 6gb RTX 3060 runs games really well. Division 2 averaged over 120 fps at max settings at 1080p. I tested war thunder, escape from tarkov and mordhau as well and both were extremely smooth (both hit 144hz reliably at ultra 1080p). No noticable input or screen lag in mordhau so fast shooters will benefit as well.• No noticeable micro stutters when switching from• The laptop top doesn’t feel hot under pressure but I wouldn’t play this on my lap.• I added a 1tb WD Blue NVMe stick to this laptop, its easy to do and there are videos of how to do it.• The GPU runs cool for a laptop (avg 78 under pressure) but the CPU doesn’t. You can fix this by limiting the max power in power settings for the CPU or undervolting it. The cpu has initial spikes in temp but usually ends up in the mid 80s which is a little hot but expected.• Use dragon center to tune the performance. Don’t run extreme performance without cooler boost.• Buy a cooling pad and watch temps for the CPU, the CPU is the only thing that holds this beast back because it tends to hit high temps (95c max from what I saw) if left at max settings.• It has 2x USB3.2and 2x USB-C so you might need to buy an usb dongle. It has a single jack for a headset so you might need to buy a splitter depending on your headset.• One HDMI only. No displayport at all which is something to consider. The HDMI is capable of 4k 60hz but at the end of the day its HDMI. Should be compatible with g sync or g sync supported monitors.

Decent gaming computer at a great price / battery life a bit short

I’ve ran Cyberpunk 2077 with graphic at high setting and it kept up at 30~35 FPS, and I am currently playing it with medium graphic setting without any issue. So I’m pretty satisfied, considering this is a laptop, not a desktop. The design of the laptop is a bit crude and the battery life is pretty short, but considering the price of this laptop, everything just can be forgiven. It’s a choice between spending +$1000 for pretty looking longer lasting batteried gaming laptop VS spending $600 for a bit ugly, short batteried but still a decent gaming laptop, and I chose the latter option which I’m not regretting.

Extremely FAST and POWERFUL! Absolutely worth it!

First off, this laptop is a BEAST! I don’t normally post reviews, but I wanted others to know that it’s absolutely worth every dollar. It’s extremely fast. Like, multi tasking is so easy; even while gaming! I can run ultra/epic on literally any game that I throw at it, and the graphics are PHENOMENAL. It beats my PS5. There’s much more precision and depth. It completely blew me away and it’s pretty quiet too. In comparison it’s probably just as loud as a ps5, which isn’t very loud at all. I do use a cooling pad to help maintain the temp, but I haven’t had any spikes. It’s very consistent, which I like! The audio is phenomenal. It’s very immersive. You can easily tell if someone’s behind you in a game. Like, it’s very impressive.MSI did a great job with this set up. I’ll give it a 9 out of 10. Just because no laptop is perfect, but there’s a couple of things they could improve. I wish the quality of the cam/microphone was better. Although, it’s not really needed with a gaming laptop because you’ll most likely use a headset or separate microphone. I wish the quality of the keyboard was a little more sturdy if that makes sense. It might just be me, because I’ve used a lot of mechanical keyboards for gaming, and it just feels a little odd to me.Worth it though! You guys gotta get your hands on one 😁Update: I just upgraded the ram to 32gb and added 2tb of 2.5” SSD. This thing was fast before but now it’s insanely fast 💨 I highly recommend and it’s super easy to do.

It heats up, but gets the job done!

I got it for 1k. I think it was a great price for what it’s worth. I can run my games at 1080p 60fps, and honestly that’s exactly what I wanted. I it heats up a lot, so I made sure to buy a cooling pad as well to mitigate that. Other than that, I am super satisfied with the laptop and I hope it serves me well for the years to come!

This is an amazing laptop. It come with the new 40 series GPU for such a cheap price too. This laptop won’t have no trouble running any games at all. I 100% recommend buying this laptop if you want to get into gaming.

Hands down worst computer purchase of all time

There is some issue with MSI computers that conflicts with half the hardware installed. For example, Realtek, Intel, and even Windows 11 security updates all fail to download. It is NOT my internet connection. The only way to do required or recommended downloads is to go to the website find the applicable download and then manually download and run it. This is bad enough but even then it creates conflicts with the software. MSI for whatever reason has vkeys set up as administrators. Meaning MSI can access and view your computer at any time. You will be listed as the third or fourth user. I have never ever in my life seen a pc list a company as a administrator unless it was my work computer and IT set it up that way to monitor employees. Furthermore, the speakers are underneath the pc. Meaning sound quality is quite terrible.I buy laptops to use as laptops. Yes I can attach to a docking station and multiple monitors but I already have a baseline work pc for that purpose. That baseline dell latitude was half the price of this laptop.I’ve tried resetting the pc to see if that would fix the weird issues but alas it just seems to be a piece of junk.Do not buy MSI computers. Stick with Dell, HP, or any other brand.

Great for those not wanting to build.

I nabbed this one a GAMBLE by getting it used and listed as “acceptable” condition. I got it and it was nearly pristine save for one small scratch on the lid I didn’t even notice for a day or two. Looking inside I saw the RAM sticks inside weren’t stock and had been replaced (maybe damaged or duds) but were still to specifications. It worked great out of the box but I will say that getting this thing open is a CHORE, that’s probably my biggest gripe about this machine. I highly recommend installing new ram sticks once able, because the RAM is probably the worst aspect out of what is mostly a great machine. For a starting gaming laptop I’d highly recommend it.

    Handles Well. Low Build Quality

Summary: December 2023 best laptop for computing power under a thousand dollars. Handles CAD work and Gaming easily. The build quality of the device is somewhat lacking in quality.First the Pros:1. I purchased this computer when my last Alienware went out as a more affordable alternative for higher-than-average computing power and mobility.I mainly use the device for 3d rendering tools like SolidWorks and TinkerCAD along with some light gaming. The device handles these with ease. Storage not being at least 1tb in 2023-2024 seems insane but I can use an external storage device to meet my needs (wish I didn’t have to).2. For the price I believe this could be the best on the market for December 2023. Competitors in the price range do not carry Intel processors or have Intel processors older than 2022.Cons:The only real cons I have are build quality.1. Feels like if you were to press the power button hard it would invert on itself and break2. The mouse pad is not super reactive for clicking and sometimes have to physically push down on the pad instead of tapping the pad.3. Traditionally you see power plugs on the back or at least the back corner of laptops. This laptop has a power cable in the middle of the device along the left side. Makes using accessories and having a clean desk harder.MSI Thin GF63 15.6″ 144Hz Gaming Laptop: 12th Gen Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050, 16GB DDR4, 512GB NVMe SSD, Type-C, Cooler Boost 5, Win11 Home: Black 12VE-066US

    Loving it, one issue

Ordered it cuz i needed a laptop and figured i game so it met multiple needs. Only issue i ran into is the order says 1tb ssd, it wasnt. It was a 500gig ssd… so have to spend the extra to get the SSD myself. Runs all games i play on ultra settings at 60fps. Does get a little hot up along the top left of the keyboard area.

    Great

I have had MSI computers before … I bought this one because my ASUS ROG got broken twice after a year (won’t buy ASUS never again… It is just cheap garbage)… Moreover, this performs better than the ASUS one… And I just replaced the NVME SSD for another one faster and bigger, plus I reused the 32GB RAM from the Asus and I’m able to play any game with high quality and performance like Cyberpunk for instance… Few tricks to optimize it like fog quality and Ray Tracing reconstruction… But everything else set as ultra …MSI is the best computer brand ever… Although I have PS5 and Xbox too and it gives same and even better quality than consoles.

    A beast

For my first gaming laptop I can’t complain. It’s almost on par as my desktop (desktop is a bit older).Bought it for on the road truck driving for gaming and documenting. It does get a bit warm which I don’t like and the battery isn’t the best. Overall good.

    Buena compra

The good, the bad, and the ugly

First and foremost this is a standard entry level gaming laptop. You can throw a lot at it and it won’t budge, however, do be mindful that this is still a laptop. Cooling will be the primary issue as is the case with most other laptops. The good- The version I received came with a 10 core 12th gen i7, a dedicated 4050 GPU with 6GB of VRAM. This is more than sufficient for my gaming, photoshop, programming, and productions needs. I debated splurging on a laptop with a larger 17″ screen, for my purposes though 15″ is enough. The brightness and clarity are great. 144Hz is an excellent feature, but considering the nature of this machine I would prefer 120Hz. Allow me to clarify, I understand Hz has everything to do with the screen refresh rate. I also understand most games can be capped around 120FPS, by capping the two it can allow cooling headroom. The mediocre- at $1K is 512GB of SSD space the best you can really do? I immediately took my machine apart and installed an aftermarket 4TB crucial NVMe and a 4TB Samsung 980 Evo, in addition to replacing the RAM from 16GB to 64GB. I understand this sounds like overkill, and it is… to an extent. Beyond gaming I run virtualization software and edit photography shots for my side gig. Running virtualized labs exhausts a lot of resources, and due to the nature of travel associated with my work, I can’t always utilize my desktop. Audio isn’t the greatest on this machine either, the sounds are washed out due to the speakers being place on the bottom. The bad – expandability. This is 2023, disk space should be expandable by now without voiding the warranty. I am well aware I can purchase an external drive, but it blows my mind that modern day devices have the ability to be customized – e.g Disk space/RAM, etc, but the warranty must be void in order to do so. These are relatively low risk modifications. The ugly- cooling, 100%. MSI BIOS by default runs turbo, add Windows 11 to the mix and you have a deadly concoction on your hands. This toasty boi almost peaked around 92C. Yes, modern day equipment can run this hot, will it stand the test of time though? I am not one to take that risk. I managed to take 20C off of my average temps, which should hopefully increase the longevity of my laptop. What would my suggestion to the manufacturer be?- First and foremost disable turbo, it’s unnecessary. The laptop is certainly capable of performing under extreme workloads but it’s not exactly practical when the temperature is teetering around it’s throttle limit.- A thicker base for a more robust heatsink. I know this is counterintuitive to the specific design of this product since it is supposed to be thing. This could expand the life of the product though.Suggestions for the consumer- Turn off turbo in BIOS, it requires enabling advanced mode but the rewards are worth it.- Get rid of Windows 11, it’s absolute garbage in its current state. Maybe by the next iteration they will have fixed it. For now, install Windows 10 via USB or install a user friendly Linux Distro like Mint, Debian, or Ubuntu.- Purchase an aftermarket laptop stand/cooler. I don’t have any particular one to suggest since I’m still in the search for something I think will perform the job correctly.Final thoughtsThis is a solid 7.5/10 laptop. It’s not bleeding edge by today’s standards, but it will do more than just get you by especially if you are a student on a budget who enjoys games on the side. This laptop also serves as a great multipurpose device with a few component modifications. That all depends on if you are willing to risk voiding the warranty or not. As an IT professional I suggest not doing so if you are not comfortable with the thought of that.

MSI RULES, but potentially shipped an “open box” to me

Internal MSI box was open, most likely a return or refurb. Was retaped shut. Cords wrapped in generic rubber bands, MSI box not in best shape (was shipped in another Amazon box), no manuals or docs from manufacturer. Overall operational, though it appeared to be atleast opened prior to me receiving. In the past I have ordered other MSI devices without issue from Amazon. I like this manufacturer and overall form factor. Since I am in quick need of a laptop I am indeed keeping this one. Just not happy how it was in the box. Delivery was fine, no issues with that process or folks working hard to make sure we get the junk we buy. Once again, not happy with the appearance of the product when I opened it.

Great for art and design and 2d game programming. I haven’t tested it on anything else, yet.

This is a great laptop. It is speedy and handles unity 2d game programming and pretty much everything else I’ve thrown at it, for art and art related tasks. When you switch on battery saver, you get at least 4 hours of battery life, minimum. Is it functional for gaming? No idea. I bought this laptop for design and art, but it overwhelmingly meets my needs. It does get a little hot, so make sure you aren’t laying this on a blanket on your lap or anything and maybe consider picking up a cheap laptop pad/ cooler, but otherwise this is the best laptop I’ve personally every owned and it looks sleek, too.

A Solid Laptop for a Solid Price

As someone who wanted a laptop that wasn’t too high-end (so I wouldn’t mourn over its loss) and something that wasn’t too weak, I am thoroughly satisfied with this purchase.Graduating from an ROG “ultra gamer laptop”, the outer casing is such a breath of fresh air. The thing is fully enclosed with a sleek black. The only thing that offsets the darkness is the piercing red of the shield and the keyboard. This is definitely where the “less-is-better” approach shines through – I’m not ashamed to bust this laptop out in a public area. Really grateful for the design choice here.In terms of performance, I have no qualms with it. As someone who plays Rocket League, Heroes of the Storm, and Fortnite, I can run these games on medium at 100-120fps. While it does get hot, it does arguably better than my older laptop, sitting under 80C during load. If you can get to knowing how to use the gamer profiles on Dragon Center, it’ll help you a TON. While the presets have their own fan curves, you can also set your own. While I’m not gaming on battery, I am still doing some creative work like Photoshop/Krita. Even then I could use it for a while before I have to plug it in – though I usually have it plugged in so I don’t have much experience on this end.I can’t say too much for the keyboard. This classic laptop chiclet design is a far cry from my main mechanical keyboard, but it’s nothing foreign from laptops of old which I’m fine with. Bonus points to having the enter key and backslash kind of combine to look like a reverse L enter key! How charming.A word of advice? Get a USB hub. This is constantly the issue I have with laptops – they’d probably have to increase the form factor to fit in more. All in all, this is a solid machine. I’ll update this in case anything breaks.

    If You Can, Get It!!

After getting this computer, I’ve been able to play games and stream for the first time. The three USB ports is really useful and with a 6 core i5 CPU and a 1060 GPU, this thing can run just about every game at over 200 stable FPS. If you’re a budget gamer, then this thing is a steal. Best part, you can upgrade the RAM and SSD. You can have 2×8 sticks of DDR4 RAM and 1TB of SSD whenever you like. 8GB is good enough for majority of games, but you really want 16GB for that extra little boost when you’re doing multiple things. It’s also pretty light and quite all things considered.

Seems very average for a gaming laptop.

Delivery and transaction was very good. Packaging and state of computer was excellent. I’m not convinced though this is a powerful computer for the category its in. It’s not bad but I have a Lenovo T430s from 2012 that is almost as good in speed of everyday computing. I am not a gamer so I was a bit surprised it did not exceed my old laptop in an obvious way.I set up windows 11 but bypassed the aggressive account log in. Not overly impressed with Windows so I dual installed Linux on it and it is much better. I had some issues with the wifi card being very new so had to install wifi drivers to get the linux os to work with wifi. After that its been very good.Only thing that I am a bit annoyed at is the fan. For normal computing, browsing internet, the fan kicks on and is very noticeable. My older laptop is quiet as a church mouse. Im almost regretting the purchase, but I know its a well built machine.I like the metal casing and build of it. I had to look up how to open it up to adjust the ram. I put in another 8gb of ram to make it 16 and had a spare hdd to put inside the extra empty slot. I like that the OS runs on the SSD and I have extra storage with the HDD. Opening the case though is not easy. Not sure why they make it difficult. My older laptop is so easy to get to the ram and hard drive. For a gamer, I would think that the computer would be more accessible for customization and tweaking.3 stars for the experience. Not thrilled, not disappointed. Just meh…

Great value at a great price.

Ok the good points: The internals make this a great value. The case is a nice brushed black finish. The screen is very nice. The battery life is what you expect from the power draw of the components inside. Now the bad. They are using a standard barrel connector plug for the power connector not a USB-C. It is larger and heavier than most laptops. The nice finish means scratches show up easier. The power draw of the components when using it to its full potential are battery life dismal for gaming and any other high demand tasks.Over all a really great value.

    fast and durable

The laptop is fast and was looking for a laptop that could handle graphics for gaming…this did not disappoint. The only trouble we had was the shipping, UPS did not want to leave it at the door..Just be aware when ordering.

Most are good, TouchPad is down

I received this 9/11, and start use it on 9/13 after re-installing the Microsoft system. I found the keyboard, screen, electricity and attachments are all nice. This is a relative cheap price according to the set-ups.However, the TouchPad is completely not usable. I opened it 9/12 and found the TouchPad is off, so I tried fn-f3 and re-installing the system. When I start again on 9/13, the TouchPad is still off. I also tried to install msi TouchPad drive and turn off the I2C HID in device management, but nothing changes. I may consider this as a hardware break.I can use my mouse to control the computer, and I have a lot of work to do on it, so there is a large chance that I will not return it or change it (except the seller is kind enough to mail me a new one before I give it back :>). I will use the MSI warranty instead, but it will be several months after that.I typed this rate on 9/14 00:30, after tried several hours trying to repair TouchPad. I will recommend this, since 700-800 dollars is really not expensive under this set of laptop; I also believe that the TouchPad broken on a new laptop is really rare thing. I am sharing my real experience and remain this as an evidence.Thank you for reading! Can anyone provide solution to this problem?

    Nice Gaming Laptop

Setting this thing up was quick and painless. Runs a lot of modern games with no problems at all. I can use it for several hours before needing to recharge. The only problem I have about this is that the bezel is too wide? but overall I’m very satisfied with this purchase

    Advantages and disadvantages

The laptop works great. Although there are some disadvantages. First of all it has short battery life, I don’t play games on my laptop but it loses its battery quickly. Secondly it has case which gets massy and in some cases it makes me angry. In contrast, the laptop is great purchase for me as it works really fast and all my needs it satisfies.

    Good Laptop, Missed Opportunities

It does what is claims to. Decent CPU, dedicated GPU, good audio, expandable storage and RAM, etc.The missed opportunities come really in only one place, but two opportunities. Both issues are with the USB Type-C port. First, that the port isn’t thunderbolt, I know 11th gen CPUs support thunderbolt, missed opportunity to give users access to that technology. Secondly the Type-C port doesn’t support USB PD charging. Again a missed opportunity to give users extended functionality at what I presume to be minimal additional cost.

    It runs hot

Ok so firstly this things a beast.. it plays bg3 on ultra like its a simple arm flex. The downfall: it gets really hot. Your gonna wanna get a fan unit, mine was hitting about 97 Celsius prior to the fan I grabbed. Now on ultra the highest I’ve hit is 91 but it typically stays around 70s to 80s. I also tried turning off turbo mode prior to getting the fan, still ran in the high 90s. I’ll be testing Starfield tomorrow on official release so I’ll edit if there are any other noticeable downfalls.

Amazing computer, battery life is the only problem

I got this computer around two weeks ago and everything has been amazing except the battery life on this, I’d say a full charge lasts around 2 and a half hours and that’s if you aren’t gaming on it. If you can keep it plugged in while playing it’s phenomenal

    casi perfecto

    Really well for average gamer

I recommend this computer to anyone who is your avid gamer. I was able to run games that were not easy to run on your typical pc. However, I will say that some of these games only work smoothly if you have the battery connected most of the time. For example, when I run the sims, it works smoothly when it’s fully charged, but after it gets to 50% or less, the whole game runs so much slower. Almost like the laptop isn’t a gaming laptop with good core and hz. I did research and came up with this laptop multiple times. I only really play the sims so I didn’t think to get a whole pc setup, with a well working component. Either way, besides the battery drainage, it works just as intended. I was a bit disappointed about the fact that I can’t really decorate the laptop since it’s red and black themed already. It looks awesome, but I would’ve liked to decorate to whatever mood I’m in at the time I use it. Not to mention that I use this laptop for school, so it’s kind of awkward having a whole gaming laptop with loud noises in the middle of class. It does get hot on the sides, so if you can afford it, definitely get a laptop cooling pad. Amazon has plenty.

    Good Laptop

Bought this for my son and he loved it. A year or two later it started having problems with the charging port which I replaced 3 times so far. Fans are probably dying because it keeps overheating which causes lagging in the graphics. But computers are only really good for 18 mos so I’m not too mad.

    Lighted keyboard, super fast processor.

I’m not a gamer but I appreciate a PC that boots in seconds and never chokes up no matter how many tasks are running. It may be an overkill for me, but got it on sale and am very happy.

    Simply Amazing

Got this as my first ever pc gaming device, man is it amazing, graphics are nice, gameplay is smooth, everything can be adjusted to your liking, absolutely fantastic gaming laptop to have ; has definitely changed the world of gaming for me ! Can get hot so despite it having a fan getting a cooling pad for it to play it safe is what I did. MSI has impressed me very much with this computer .

    Amazing computer

I just got this computer and I already love it. As my first gaming computer is has everything I need and is very quick. I have noticed an issue with overheating already though. And the keyboard layout is strange without a pause, forward, or rewind button. But it’s worth losing those buttons for this computer.

    My best purchase of 2021.

I’m a huge fan of MSI. This notebook is probably the best purchase I made late last year. The performance isn’t bad whatsoever. Playing games like Rogue Company, Destiny 2 Rainbow Six Siege at over 100 to 200 fps makes it a better option than that of most home console. But at 1080p at high or medium settings of course. Some cons that I have to address though. 1. The battery dies fast even while playing small, less demanding games and can clock in at less than 2 hours before needing a charge again. 2. Unplugging the notebook from the power cable can cut performance in half or more. 3. Not much USB connectors so you’re limited to what you can use unless you shell out for a usb hub. It’s worth IMO. 4. Storage is murder if you want to install some if the best AAA games since it in only has 512gb out of the box plus the 16gb Ram is enough for gaming but editing needs more though. The best solution is upgrading to more storage and adding more ram once you feel you really need it. Check YouTube for any good tutorial videos once ready for upgrade. Finally 5. Temperature and noise levels. This notebook can get exceedingly hot and loud during sessions, I use a Tecknet cooler to help but it just manages to keep it a better temperature than reliying on the notebooks loud fans. Using headphones is only way bypass this annoyance, cause the “jet engine” like sound will put you off in just about an hour. Even with all these cons, I can’t recommend this laptop enough. The performance is just too good and it’s probably the best way to enter pc gaming at a decent price due to the ongoing GPU drought thanks to the chip shortage.
