ITS AMAZING !!
I’ve been in photography over 50 years so nothing really impresses me as much as this lens – it’s really amazing; the colors, sharpness and macro are stunning. Tomorrow I’ll try it with a new polarizer – I can hardly wait !

Amazin
This lens is superb quality, takes super sharp photos, nice looking bokeh, its a great little thing to have. The build quality and edge to edge sharpness are superb. Its everything you would expect from a Nikkor S lens, and then a little extra.I have some issues with the auto focus, I tried point focusing, but even on a relatively large object in the foreground more often than not it jumps around a bit then goes off to infinity never to return, even when I limit it with the switch. but I have focusing issues with many of my lenses, so maybe its me and not the lens. I must have ADHD, I just can’t seem to focus!. Other than that one problem, which is most likely my fault, this lens is amazing to use, and I would recommend it to anyone that want’s to try macro photography. Although it can absolutely be used for other things than macro, unless you have an interest in macro I would recommend a different lens. If you’re all about macro, or at least want to try it and also have a nice 105MM 1:1 portrait lens, this is the way to go. If you have no interest in macro, I suggest you find a different 105 prime for your portraits etc.

My new favorite lens
I usually photograph birds and have the Z 100-400mm zoom which is great for that. This lens however is more fun. The macro functionality is great and it is a great portrait lens for when I shoot my wife while she is performing (a musician). If I happen to be out without my zoom lens I can can some decent shots of birds with this if I set my Z9 to DX cropping so that I get the 1.5 increase in focal length. I am not shooting birds for print so I don’t mind the loss of pixels. It is also very light so it does not weight me down as much as the zoom while carrying it around for long hikes. I am considering purchasing the 2x adapter for getting even closer to the birds with this lens and I would still have f/5.6.

Unmatched Versatility
I’ve spent a few weeks now with this lens on my Z8 and wow, it really is incredible. Macro, Portrait, Landscape…this lens does it all and with incredible detail and clarity. Although I mostly do wildlife with longer telephoto lenses, but this is so good that it will probably get just as much use. You won’t be disappointed!

Excellent new lens design for Mirrorless cameras.
New Z 105 replaces my older F-Mount lens. I know this is mass produced in China, but wow…it is a significant improvement over my older Japanese built F-Mount. The image stabilization is a huge part of it. Clarity, Focus Speed, Image Quality…sorry F-Mount…the new Z-Lens is simply better. I wish Nikon had released a new Z-Mount 200mm macro, because this suffers from the same “closeness” issues as previous 105-Macros. But is also does great at other things like portrait photography, etc. So until then, buy this.

I’ve wanted a macro lens for the Z-series for a couple of years. This is the one! After a few test shots, I’m hooked. Can’t wait to take it out on the road.

Superb sharpness and surprisingly light weight.
I use this lens for product photography. I don’t think I’ve ever used a sharper lens. Contrast and clarity are second to none. The VR combined with the IBIS and light weight make it remarkably hand holdable even at lower shutter speeds if you’re in a pinch without a tripod. I would say it’s probably a bit too sharp for a full time portrait lens, however the soft & swirly bokeh character is very beautiful. As with any macro lens, you do get a lot of focus breathing, so you have to compensate for that when focus stacking or doing video work. Bonus – it works well with the Meike extension tubes if you want to surpass 1:1 magnification.

Lives up to its promises
I bought a Z mount platform specifically for the S line lenses, and yet again, this doesn’t disappoint. I bought this because I found I’ve been trying to do more “macro” style photography with my regular zoom lenses, which doesn’t really work very well. As such, this is my first macro lens. Well, this delivers. My one and only complaint isn’t really about the lens itself, it’s more about Nikon’s website/documentation about the lens. Yes, it technically has a max aperture of f2.8, but that’s only achievable when focusing further than about 1.7 meters away. If you get closer than that (which you need to for macro photography), it starts incrementally stopping down. At closest focus, it’s maximum aperture is f4.5. After I thought about it for a bit, I realized that’s just how it has to be due to how the aperture ratio works, so it makes sense and I’m not upset by it. F2.8 at closest focus would be absolutely ginormous and it would make the lens huge. I just wish the documentation said something about that. Maybe it does and I missed it, but in case it doesn’t or in case you missed it too, now you know. (I also have to assume most other macro lenses do something similar, in the same way a lot of zoom lenses have variable max apertures, but I don’t have the experience with macro lenses to know.)

I really like this lens!
I haven’t done Macro since the 70s. Back then we used bellows to get close. Times sure have changed. This lens is the best. You can read a million reviews on google, and watch tons of videos on youtube, but until you try it for yourself you will not appreciate it. These three pictures I took on the first two days I had the lens. There is much to learn, but when you can get photos like these right away the possibilities are endless. In most reviews the complaints suggest slow focusing. Well, if you are in a hurry you shouldn’t be doing Macro. I don’t find it annoying in the least. I have done a few portrait and landscape photos just to try it and find it to be excellent. The edge to edge clarity is impressive. I had been waiting to buy one, and when the $100.00 off sale hit I couldn’t resist. Perfect timing as well as the bugs are really out now.

Best Macro lens from Nikon
Likes: Beautiful sharp lens even wide open, Amazing VR, light and balances well on the Z7, versatile for Macro, portrait and even landscapes.Dislikes: Noisy focusing and focus breathing and hunting a bit but this would perfectly normal for a macro lens that switches between magnification ratios.Overall the best macro lens i have used and am very impressed.

Beginner level phographer: Lens is fantastic for both portrait and macro. Shooting distance can be tricky but the auto focus helps a lot. It’s also very easy to switch to manual for fine tuning in case the camera is picking up the wrong subject.10/10 would recommend.

Really Crisp Shots
I use this camera lens with my Nikon Z9 camera, and I couldn’t be happier with the quality of photos I’ve been getting with it. I’m just a hobbyist so there was a little bit of a learning curve in using this lens, as well as my first f2.8 which took a minute to get used to. But, after 30 minutes of playing around with angles and various camera settings, I wouldn’t trade this lens for anything. Highly recommend!

Another Winning Z Mount Lens from Nikon
I enjoy macro photography and was very happy when Nikon announced the 105mm f2.8 Micro lens for the Z mount cameras. The lens is larger than than the F mount counterpart, but not as heavy. It produces outstanding images, sharp from corner to corner. As a S-line Z mount lens, it has a customizable control ring and function button.Focusing is quick and silent, and the lens includes a focus-limiting switch to limit the working distance for close up work. It also has 4.5 stops of VR, so while you may not want to necessarily ditch the tripod for true macro work, you can use this in the field with confidence if you are not traveling with a tripod. The included photo was taken handheld.Highly recommended!

Excellent addition to your camera bag
It’s two lenses in one! A macro lens (as advertised) as well as an excellent portrait or landscape lens. The only reason I did not give this lens 5-stars across the board is it is a bit slow at focusing and stabilization. If you look up reviews or search the Internet, you will see these issues documented. You will also read that Nikon made this with more plastic, making it a lighter lens.Don’t let these small issues stop you from purchasing the lens – the lens is SUPER SHARP as a landscape lens, and fantastic as a Macro.

Future Legendary Lens
Just like all the other S-line lenses it is extremely sharp with all the other unbelievable imaging characteristics from the coatings to the special lens elements. Focusing with the dual stepping motors is very good for a macro lens. And the combination of VR in both the body & lens is excellent.I’m so glad that I switched to the Z system. Z6 – 20, 50, 85, 105. + the FTZ adapter plays nicely with a lot of the F-mount lenses (200-500 f5.6 is quite a good combo)All images posted were straight from camera .jpg’s transferred via SnapBridge to my phone (1st outing with the lens). How cool is that!?!

Macro
The 105mm Macro lens is the best of the best no matter what brand you shoot with. It gives a true 1:1 ratio. The Nikon Z lens is amazing when its paired to a Z body, in my case my Z9. Almost a multi purpose lens, can you use it for portraits, yes, is thats intended job? No, its ideally meant for the little things…bugs, jewelry, plants etc. The photo shared is of a Brachymeria Wasp that i found in our yard, very very tiny wasp i might add; but through a macro lens it gives you a whole new perspective! Try it out at night too (with a flash) you won’t be disappointed!

Great macro/portrait lens for Nikon Z mirrorless.
As expected, this lens is outstanding. Sharp, relatively fast and lightweight, the 105mm S MC is wonderful for macro photography and even for portraits with lovely bokeh wide open. Stabilization is set in-camera. This lens is expensive but goes to 1:1 for macro shooting. Some people prefer a 2:1 or higher macro shooting capability, but for most people 1:1 is perfectly fine.

Remarkable lens multi purpose lens
I try to look for stuff that can do double duty. That allows my money to stretch further. This is one lens that can do two or even three things.First, it’s a macro lens. It creates nice close-up, sharp photos. I don’t do much macro other than as a novelty. Being up close in macro mode, the auto focus seems to hunt around a little bit. But I suspect as a macro photographer, you should be in manual focus mode? That seems to be the pattern in all types of photography where the highest detail is sought.Second, it’s a landscape lens. At 105mm it is a stretch but in a pinch, it can be made to work. I like that it’s super sharp and relatively fast so it brings up details nicely. You just have to move back a little bit.Third, it can work as a portrait lens…in a pinch. Again, it’s sharpness helps although, you may have to soften things a bit to balance out facial imperfections. And again, you’ll need to move back a bit. After messing around with this lens, I think it’s a very cost effective purchase and can compliment your other lenses if you are a minimalist (or poor like me).Lastly, I was concerned about the autofocus speed. While researching this lens I read a lot of articles where they mentioned slow autofocus speed. I believe that was written about earlier models because AF is fast and accurate. I think this focuses even faster (in non macro mode) than the z 20mm 1.8.Oh yeah, it looks heavy but it’s very light. All in, this is a great lens and something to consider if you’re on a really tight budget. This lens rounds out my lens collection of 20mm, 50mm and now this, my newly acquired 105mm.

Great Image Quality

My favorite lens
I was really excited to get this lens, and when it did I thought it would be a fun one to pop on for very specific photography. What I didn’t expect is that it’s easily the one I use the most. Something about it just makes things look good through the viewfinder. Everything is always super sharp, it’s great in low light, the autofocus is almost perfect, and I just love it. Absolutely recommend this lens.

Nikon always makes great lense, and this is no exception. Photos are sharp and clear from centers to edges. The macro function works well, letting you get very close to the subject. Focus is fast, and at f2.8 you can do lots of low light work with some creamy bokeh. This is a Z mount lens so it will only work on a Mirrorless nikon.
