Test Before Use
Definitely speed test the drive you receive before putting anything important. My first one got 1000MB/s for about 10 seconds then dropped to about 600. I replaced it the next day and the new one maintained the advertised speeds.Other than that, it’s a good small form factor device with a convenient hole for any clip (I used some Peak Design ones) to hold it where you need it.

Heard lots of horror stories about this thing failing. So far, working ok. Not as fast as advertised, but plenty faster than my other portable drives. I got speeds upwards of over 750 MB/s. Not bad at all.Runs hot. Transfered about 1TB and it’s warm to the touch. Let’s hope it last. 4 stars because of expensive price.

SanDisk never lets me down
SanDisk’s portable storage devices have never let me down, and this is no exception. I actually tried several alleged external “SSD’s” prior to this one, but every single one was giving transfer speeds significantly slower than promised. Slower than a standard HDD, even. This one, however, performs at the advertised speed, consistently. The form factor is also excellent. The included optional security encryption is a nice bonus as well.

I like the size and portability. No issues with it so far. Using with a new Mac Mini running Sonoma. First time or two I connected it, it seemed to randomly eject the drive but I reformatted it with APFS and havent had a drop since.

need to fix the device driver bug
overall I like the SSD, but there is plug and play issue if you plug the SSD after starting Virtualbox: the SSD will not show up. The quick fix is rebooting your machine, and then the first thing is you plug your SSD. I can not give 5 stars because of this.

The price is all over the place
I love the product. Good name, good quality, texture feels nice, it’s fast and has a convenient carabiner clip.My only complaint is the price. I saw it listed for $180 below the listing I was looking at for $150 so I obviously ordered from the listing for $150. But I come on here to leave a review and it is now $140 just 2 days later. Also it’s an extra $10 for the 2 colors that aren’t black. What’s up with that?. Anyways… don’t over pay. I have the 2T version. Very happy so far.

Not only do I love the storage size of this device, but I feel that the color scheme makes it very easy to find in my drawer of electronics. It comes with a very handy loop that makes carrying or connecting to a carabiner or keychain extremely easy, and alongside the USBC to USB adapter and the power cable, I am very happy with this purchase. I can leave this device plugged into my laptop, and it stays because the cord included is so short and therefore sturdy with no room for dangling. I am very happy with my purchase and will be purchasing more of these in the future as additional storage is needed.

Cautiously pleased
Given the problems others have reported and that have been reported in tech news, I’m leary of trusting this SSD. I have multiples, and thankfully, I use them only for transport, where there is redundancy (the transport isn’t my only copy). I haven’t encountered a failure yet, but I doubt I would trust these alone. Having said that, they are very fast, and I love the little carabiner loop; sometimes, I nerd up and clip one to my belt loop in between locations. I hope SanDisk can solve the reliability problems others have reported.

GREAT portable drive
This is one of the nicest portable drives I’ve used. It’s a little pricey, but has the speed and (hopefully) durability to make it worthwhile. It feels like the build-quality is solid. I like the hook option. Also the matte finish on one side so it doesn’t slide off a table easily. Great design. And looks high-end when working at the client’s office.

Awesome drives, but you *might* want to reformat before use
These are great drives – fast, very portable.But I can confirm what others have sad: SanDisk uses a large Allocation Block Size.If you want to use the SSD to store a lot of smallish/medium-size files be aware that they are formatted by SanDisk as ExFAT with a 1MB (1,048,576 bytes) Allocation Block Size; i.e. every file will take up a multiple of 1MB on the disk. e.g. an empty file that looks like 0 bytes, will actually be taking up 1MB on the physical disk).Both this 4TB SSD, and an older 2TB SSD, both came with the 1MB Allocation Block Size. So, seems to be a SanDisk standard for their SSDs.This makes the drive more efficient (faster) when mainly used for large files, but will waste space if you have many small files. Depending on your need, you may want to reformat with an Allocation Block Size which is a smaller multiple 512 bytes (512 is the drives device block size), such as the common 4,096 bytes (4k).

Perfect for what I needed
I personally got the 2TB variation and it is exactly what I was looking for.My plan for the storage device is to act as somewhat of a Doomsday type backup. In the event of something happening, I wanted to have a last resort backup of all my data that I can keep in my every day carry bag (and as part of following good data backup practices. If you aren’t already, I recommend following the 3-2-1 rule of data storage). Because of this, I was looking for 4 things.The first two things I was looking for was portability and capacity. This device fits both of those for me. It is 2 TBs in the size of roughly a credit card. Makes it super easy to backup to and leave in my backpack. The size the device itself is a huge selling point for me since my bag is constantly packed with work/personal tech items since I work in IT/Networking/Penetration Testing. I also really appreciated how the device came with a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A adapter. It may seem like a small and insignificant thing, but makes it easier for all users regardless of their computer’s IO setup.The third thing I was looking for was its ease of use across platforms (mainly Mac and Windows/Linux). When I looked at reviews for this device previously, I had noticed a few reviews saying that they ran into issues with using it for storage on both Mac and Windows. This is big for me since I use a Mac for work and my personal laptop. Then I use a Windows desktop at home. Because of this, I naturally will use the device as a backup for both OS’s. However, this was not an issue for me. So far, it has worked perfectly well for loading files on both OS’s.The fourth thing I was looking for when selecting a product was security and encryption. Because of my jobs, I am very self conscious of data security. This is especially so for my last resort backup since I keep it in my bag that I carry everywhere. The encryption was super easy to setup. It would be nice if they didn’t cap the encryption key to 25 characters, but that is fine. I popped the device into my desktop and opened the encryption setup and was all set within a minute. I didn’t have any issues with unlocking the device when using either OS. The device has a small program for both Mac and Windows (I haven’t tried it on a Linux machine yet but i assume it would be fine on there) that you launch on your respective device and it opens a tab to input the key.Overall, I would definitely highly recommend this product. Only caveat I would have is its standard price (especially for the 2TB variant). I was able to get it at a considerable discount during Prime Day. If you are budget minded/looking for a deal and don’t need this type of storage solution right away, I would probably recommend waiting for it to be cheaper. But if you have a need right now that this device fits, then go for it.Naturally, I have yet to see how it holds up over time. Since it is an SSD, I don’t expect it to die on me anytime soon but that can occasionally happen. TBD on that one.

Good value but finicky on Mac
This drive is fast and a good value, but after 6 months, I can say that it’s rather finicky on a Mac. So I’m reducing my rating to 4 stars.My first issue was that the drive became unrecognizable on my MacBook Pro M1. The Mac couldn’t see the drive in Disk Utility or give any sign that the drive existed at all. Even more bizarre, when I plugged it into three other Macs, it worked fine. Eventually, I figured out that it was because I wasn’t using the original cable that came with it, which I think is perhaps a lightning cable or something, which apparently my MacBook Pro M1 really wanted. But to work on 3 other macs just fine with a regular USB-C cable? Bizarre. So there was quirk number one.Later on, when encrypting the drive, I either unplugged it too soon, or the operating system didn’t unmount it properly, and the drive became corrupted and this time, though showing up in DiskUtility, couldn’t be formatted or partitioned without failing with a strange error each time. Others on the internet who had this issue said they ultimately had to return the drive for a new one. I was about to return mine too, but then as a last-ditch effort, I borrowed a Windows 11 machine, which recognized the drive no problem. So I re-partitioned it there, and then brought it back to my Mac, where Disk Utility was happy to deal with it again.The third quirk is that often, my Mac refuses to eject the drive. Ventura, and Sonoma before it, almost always says the drive is in use, even when every program is closed. Spotlight isn’t indexing it. Maybe it’s because I have my primary Photos Library on it and it’s doing something in the background? But it’s not obvious, and I have to shut-down my computer almost every time to eject this disk. I’ll have to put more time into researching active processes to see what the deal is, but I just don’t have this issue with my other external drives. So again, Sandisk and Apple need to coordinate on this.So while I’d love to give this drive five stars, all these quirks on the Mac have wasted a lot of my time. And SanDisk (Western Digital) needs to really take a look at some of the compatibility issues with Mac and update the firmware / drivers on this.

Frequently ejects on macOS
I really like this drive, but like a lot of other people, I’ve been having issues with the drive frequently ejecting on macOS.I bought the drive to do Time Machine backups, but it would always eject when plugged into my MacBook Pro. I ended up using the drive with a Raspberry Pi and doing Time Machine backups over SMB, which is a lot slower than plugging the drive directly into the Mac, but it’s been pretty reliable so far on the Pi.I only took off one star because I’m not sure if the issue is with the drive or macOS. It seems like a lot of external SSDs have this issue with Macs, actually.

Small and Fast
I have wanted a small SSD that I could back up our computers to and always carry with me. I have had my eye on this for some time and finally decided to buy it. The two things that impressed me:1. It is much smaller than it looks in the pictures. This is a good thing.2. It is so much faster than I expected. I was able to back up more than 560GB in just 35 minutes.I really like this little SSD and I will be getting more when it is time to replace my older HDDs.

Works well with the new revisions. Keep diligent backups because of the horror stories of this drive
I had heard so many scary things about this drive. There had a been a huge number of failed drives. A data recovery company saying that the product design is defective and parts are too big for the board. If you go over 2TB data written, it will stop working and die.First thing I did was put in the serial number of the Sandisk website. It said that I had gotten one with the fixed firmware. Also, Sandisk had said that they had added extra epoxy to avoid parts falling off. I use Linux and most firmware upgrade software only run on windows and good to know I didn’t have to do any updates.Second thing I did was run a software that writes 4TB of random data and reads it back. It was able to write all of it and read all of it back without errors. The write speed was ~300MB/s on average and read speed was 975MB/s. I did some benchmark with KDiskMarks and Disks and everything looked good. The dlsk can be filled in a few hours and read in an hour.Overall, great price for a 4TB drive. There are scary stories out there of it failing and so I would only keep backups as one should always do. But apart from that, looks to be a solid drive and hope everything has been fixed.

I’d prefer the new model, but still nice
When I ordered this drive I thought I was ordering the new model, which I’d previously purchased a short time before – but this one arrived and I decided to keep it and use it anyway. I guess I was in too much of a hurry to order.Size and shape-wise it’s almost the same as the 2023 model – small and sleek. This 2022 version is just barely larger and comes with the hole in it rather than the “tag” on the side which the latest model moved to using.Otherwise the drives are equally spacious (I got the 2 terabyte versions) in a very convenient small package. My purpose for both is for travel – and this is the best travel hard drive that I’ve found in a quality brand name product that I trust (SanDisk is owned by Western Digital, so I know it’s a good company).I’ve always used Seagate portable drives, which have never failed me and I thought were very portable. These SanDisk SSD drives take that another step smaller! I really appreciate the fact that I can put these new drives in my pocket and take them anywhere. For travel I haven’t seen anything better!Personally, I use VeraCrypt for encryption so I cannot tell you about the software that comes pre-loaded on these drives. I reformat them and start over anyway.The great thing is that you can plug and play using these drives for connecting to a phone (in my case a Galaxy Note 20), so you can drag and drop back and forth with pictures, videos or whatever files you want. That alone is a reason to purchase for me.I’ll be using them as an external hard drive for both computing and for phones.I’m not sure about long-term use, as I just purchased them but I’ll try to do an update later once I’ve used them for a while.

Worth the money
This is one of the few portable four terabyte solid-state drives on the market right now. I believe I only found one brand that has a five terabyte.The price tag is a bit excessive, but not a few factor in the amount of space that you’re getting in return. You can easily spend over $100 on two terabytes, suspending over $200 on four terabytes does make sense.It’s perfect for backing up your movie collection, or Your personal files. It’s very light and I find the loop to be helpful because you can just clip it with a carabiner to stuff.

The high speed access to data is incredible!
I have bought several of these to back up my MacBook Pro and Linux virtual machines. The backups do not take very long, and I can move large folders (in excess of 128GB) from one machine to another in just a few minutes!

SanDisk Portable SSD—2TB
The SanDisk came highly recommended by my IT support person at work. I would cringe when I would bring in my traditional HD drive. With a Solid State Drive (SSD) there are no moving parts, and less worries about it breaking down. I use it for work and works like a charm. I highly recommend this brand and model. Less cumbersome than traditional drives and holds a whole lot more data at a quarter of the standard size. Great product at a very competitive price.

Replaces my backup hard drive.
My hard drive failed (mechanical drive) and purchased this for my Time Capsule for my MacBook Pro. USB-C connection. It is small and takes very little space on my tray table. I recommend it, doesn’t need a power supply as it receives power from my laptop. Will buy another when it’s full.
