A decent device from Sony’s b-team
This thing is a clever idea executed less than well. The directions are opaque, as if written specifically to confuse. I don’t even know if it’s always on or not, because there’s no on-switch and no way to tell, according to the instructions. Will it kill its battery (not rechargeable) on my shelf? Maybe. I don’t know. Sony doesn’t know! Also, and his is adorable, the “C1” button indeed does correspond to the first custom button on your Sony camera. Of course, if you have an A7C, as I do, that button isn’t the “C1” in the menu! If you want to find out what it does, you have to look at the map of custom buttons in the menu on your camera, and compare it to the menu for what to assign to them. Also, the zoom just seems to bring up errors. I wish there was a way to reassign the zoom rocker to focus, but life doesn’t always give you what you want.Should you buy it? Sure. Why not. It’s a handle and a tripod and it has a record button on it, so if you’re a video person, it’s handy. Should it be better for the price? Hell yes.

Not bad, not great!
It’s really just a tripod, doesn’t contain a gyroscope or anything so be aware. The remotes battery burned out pretty quick for me so check up on how to turn it off. Also you need to watch a YouTube video to set it up. Kinda hard. But it does work pretty well and the material isn’t bad

Overall good except the battery
It worked well as expected. But the issue I faced with the battery as the battery didn’t last long more than 2 weeks. I feel the battery inside keeps draining the power as there is no control to switch off or switch on the battery .

Cheap feel
Maybe it was an attempt to keep it light weight but this thing feels cheap. In addition, the grip doesn’t have any rubberized texture like the camera so it’s kind of slick. It is not very ergonomic (no finger indentions on the opposite side of the controls). Really what you are paying for is a mini tripod and a bluetooth shutter button. The zoom button is okay, yes it zooms in and out but it’s a digital zoom, not optical. I’m certain that if a cheap Chinese knock off comes out soon it’ll be half the price and will have the exact same features. The Bluetooth/tripod combo makes it a first of it’s kind, so yes it’s innovative, and it works, but there is just nothing about this that really justifies the outrageous price.3 stars for doing what it is supposed to do. I knocked off 2 stars mainly for the build quality and expensive price for this piece of plastic.

Amazing device that makes taking photos and videos easy
I recently bought the Sony ZV-1 vlogging camera and this wireless shooting grip has become my best friend. It helps in situations like video taking where you can vlog without holding the camera without dropping it or having to deal with extra wires. Photo taking for selfies is extremely useful with this grip as well. I also made use of the mini tripod in extends out to be which helps if you want to take a stand alone video on your table, counter, or low profile shots.Highly recommend as it makes life so much easier…and I’m just an armature!

Sony wireless grip.
Solid. A bit expensive, but on par with other Sony products. The only thing I would have liked is a place for a lanyard (so if I accidentally dropped it, It would be secure on my wrist). The problem is where to place the lanyard. When you use it as a tripod is secure for Sony a6600 camera, but I am not sure if it is sturdy enough for the Sony a7 camera. Still I like much better than the wired model.

I can’t shot video without it, it’s so useful, fast to use. I just wish the zoom button was offering more subtlety, but that would also means a higher price then. Anyway, really worth it.

Great tool
I bought this to use with my Sony rx100 for a 2 week trip to Europe. At first I couldn’t get it to connect to my camera until I realized after days of trying that you need to select “Rmt Control” in addition to just the Bluetooth connection. Once I did that it worked perfectly with zero connection issues from then forward. It is very comfortable and fit my hand well. Controls were all easy to use. For a smaller camera it was so much easier to hold onto with the grip than holding the camera itself. The grip made it much more secure of a grip so I was able to take different angles, hold it out windows, and other positions I couldn’t do with just the camera. Also the grip made holding the camera while carrying it more secure and less likely to drop it.The tripod was great for pictures, especially low ones where I just set it on the ground. Also good for just setting the camera on a table or wherever without laying the camera down. My only wish is that there was a tether point for a strap or something to secure it to my hand. I generally had a strap around my neck for security but some shots required me to take it off. I could use a tether point on the camera but the it conflicts with the jacket.I am addicted and almost hate to shoot without it. Highly recommend it, particularly for smaller or medium cameras.

Linking to Xperia Pro I
I, like others that have reviewed this, had an issue doing the initial Bluetooth connection. Don’t waste time or frustration, go buy a new 2032 battery and hold the device so that it’s along side the phone. Connected right away! Works great after that. Good luck!

I washed it and it still works!!!
Husband got this in 2021 and really likes it. Fits his hand yadda yadda yadda. His toy not mine. We just traveled again and it was packed in the clothes. I tossed them all in the washer and pushed go. Guess what went thru the full wash cycle? He opened it up and little or no water was inside. Spent the night in a warm (80F) oven to dry it out. Attached it the next day and it works just like it should. I don’t suggest washing it to test how water proof it is but don’t be afraid of a little rain! I was so impressed that I dug up the old order just so I could write a review.

Complicated to setup…. almost returned it
Took over an hour to finally connect it to my Xperia, the directions it comes with are TERRIBLE & CONFUSING. It literally comes with 3 different sets of instructions in nearly a dozen different languages. Good luck finding the instructions in English. Took me nearly 20 minutes of going through all of the other languages to finally finding a small paragraph of English instructions buried amongst all of the other languages, that needless to say were very vague & useless.I ended up having to research on Google for how to set it up. It seems like a simple process but believe me it IS NOT!!! Most of the instructions you’ll find on Google aren’t for Sony phones but for point and shoot digital cameras SMH which I haven’t seen since the late 2000’s. I was shocked it didn’t come with a simple 1 page quick setup which would have saved a lot of time and confusion. Instead they give you an encyclopedia in practically every language but English. I mean are people really buying this product in Zimbabwe or Bangladesh over the United States? Why so much priority on so many different languages yet so little priority on basic English?Regardless I was on the verge of returning it before I finally got it to start working. It’s a nice controller, but not worth the headache of the setup, cost, etc.Fyi – if you’re using this with your Xperia 1 V or Pro you’ll have to buy a vlog monitor from Sony which is $200 & this remote tripod is SOLD SEPARATELY which is another $150. That’s $350 all together. When I purchased the vlog monitor I assumed it came together with the remote tripod since there is a photo of this device on the sales material for the vlog monitor and nowhere does it say “remote tripod not included.” Which is false advertising by sony.Disappointed they weren’t more honest and transparent about that. I’m sure I’m not the only one who purchased the vlog monitor thinking it came with the remote tripod as it is literally featured on the box itself. Nonetheless it’s a costly setup just to use Sony products. This will be the last time I purchase from Sony. Just a headache of an experience, too complicated, and frustrating. Especially these days where most people have a lot going on, the last thing you want to do on a Friday night is figure out how to operate something so simple as a remote tripod that’s made to be overly complicated for no reason.

Too Expensive, Can only be synced via Bluetooth to ONE camera
This is way to expensive a remote control to only be able to sync with one camera at a time. For the very high price you should be able to sync the remote to a few Bluetooth cameras. Geez, even my cheap head phones and ear buds with Bluetooth can be synced to at least 2 devices at once. I have several Sony cameras, it is a pain to repair the remote each time I switch cameras. The unit itself has very touchy buttons. A half press of the shutter button takes finesse. The zoom toggle cannot be remapped on an A7 or A9 series camera making it useless, I’m sure it would work fine the the RX100VII that has a power zoom lens. The C1 button works fine and activates what ever you set C1 on the camera for. Other problem is that if you push C1 usually a menu appears on the screen, great, but there is no way to adjust the setting from the remote you have to touch the camera with your other hand. The tripod function works fine and has nice rubber feet, but with any reasonable size full frame lens it is not stable. I like the tilt lock button with click locks at many angles and then a dial tension for more secure locking. The multi position (4 position) head works fine and screws to the the camera firmly. With the 55/1.8, 35/1.8, 85/1.8 or similar size and weight lens or smaller the tripod is stable. With my 50/1.4 or 85/1.4 attached it only works if the camera is level or pointed up, point the lens even a few degrees down and the camera falls over. The 24/1.4 is barley stable pointed a few degrees down. All in all its made well, looks nice, but is not worth the money. I purchased it for a trip, didn’t end up taking it and we got stuck coming back into the country because of the pandemic. So I cannot return it, Amazon is not taking calls and its a few days past the return period or no question it would be going back. If it ever comes down to $60 then it would be worth a look.Don’t make the same mistake, find a nice small tripod that is more functional and get a shutter boss III. I used the wireless Shutter boss III the last few years without any problems, it has a lot more functions, on sale it was less than half the price. I should have just bought a Joby tripod and been done with it, but I really was lured in with the Bluetooth that is just not implemented well and certainly not worth the price.

Can’t pair with Xperia PRO-I
Bundled together but can’t be paired with The Xperia PRO-I. Tried to pair according to the user manual instructions for the grip and the Xperia. All I get is an error saying can’t connect because of “incorrect pin or passkey”. Sony: “We make great hardware, but we have no idea how to make software work seamlessly with our hardware.”

Works well to make v-logging and arm-length photography more comfortable.
Sony’s Bluetooth Shooting Grip is well made, compact, and thoughtfully designed. It’s something I didn’t know I needed until I used it.The Sony is made completely from plastic. The only metal part is the tripod mount screw. Still, the plastics used are high quality and the grip is well assembled and feels robust. Included are a button battery for power and a fabric carrying pouch. If your camera supports this grip then setting it up and connecting it is a breeze. First you have to install the button battery in the door on the back of the grip, after that go into your camera’s Bluetooth menu and choose the option for Bluetooth RMT CTRL for Bluetooth Remote Control. Once you do that, it will connect as soon as you press the zoom button on the grip. Thereafter, any time you turn the camera on/off the grip will automatically reconnect. Sadly, when connected to the grip you cannot use your camera’s Bluetooth location data from your cell phone. FYI: I connected the grip to a Sony a6100.The grip connects to the tripod socket on the bottom of your camera and screws down tightly using a hand turned screw below the tripod socket. The base that the camera attaches to is rubberized to protect the camera and prevent it from shifting. Once attached you can pivot the camera forward and backward 180 degrees by pressing a button on the left hand side of the grip. It is not an infinite adjustment, but rather has many distinct steps. The position can then be locked in place with a screw on the opposite end of the button. By pressing a button by the bottom of the camera you can spin the camera 360 degrees with locks at every 45 degrees. This system allows for almost unlimited positioning possibilities and the ability to adjust the positioning very quickly. The grip can also be opened up to serve as a small table top tripod that works well. When holding the grip you have access to five buttons that are easy to reach under your thumb. If your camera has an electrically powered zoom then you can zoom the lens. If you press and hold the button it will zoom continuously, but if you press and release the button it will zoom in steps. You can adjust the speed of the zoom depending on how much force you press the button with. There is a shutter button, which has a pre-focus position. There is a video record start / stop button. There is a custom button as well, that mimics the camera’s C1 function. Lastly, there is a sliding lock button to disable to buttons, which is perfect for when you’re storing the grip.I found the grip to be a pleasure to use. It felt secure in my hand, I was able to reach all of the buttons easily, and it was quick and simple to change the camera’s position on the fly. It balanced well with my Sony a6100 camera and the 16-50 kit lens attached. All in all… an excellent shooting grip.

There is a MUCH better and MUCH less expensive alternative!
I spent a lot of time reading reviews and watching videos of this product. When I expanded my search, I came across the JJC TP-S1 (‘S’ for Sony). It has all the features of this product and much more.** Significantly lower cost – it’s only $60** Remote control – all the buttons are on a removeable piece. Very useful when used as tripod.** Lanyard hole built in, and it comes with a lanyard.I ordered the JJC. I’ll update this review if needed.

Decent But Slightly Low Quality
The structure and design of this grip are solid, but I think the materials run a little on the cheap-feeling side for me. I enjoy the size, and it fits well in my hand, but it can be a little clunky to use, which can be a problem when I don’t have more than one hand to use in certain filming situations. The bluetooth pairs fairly easily, which I enjoy! And the camera connect points are rubberized, so they hold the camera in place pretty solidly. It has a tilt function that allows you to snap into place in multiple positions, which is good, however, with some cameras, it can be a little off-balance when tilting it forward even just a few degrees, which I find incredibly hard to use.

Came in looking perfect
I bought an open box because I didn’t mind saving a few box as long as it does the job. I am surprised to see how new it looked. I am very satisfied with my purchase. I have no regrets for buying an open box.

Beautiful
Great design, beautiful and, as an extra, can be use as a remote control.

Heavy, clunky and complicated
I ended up sending the tripod back as it was a lot heavier than expected, was uncomfortable to hold and the pairing process needed to set up the grip each time was convoluted.

“No free return”
I purchased the product by mistake, my Sony camcorder is not BlueTooth compatible, but it looked a good product. But be cautious about the “free return policy.” I was forced to exchange (buy) another product. Further my free Amazon drop off point in Los Angeles County 5 miles from my home could not be selected, forcing me to either drive 40 miles to another drop off location or pay the $7.35 UPS fee on top of the exchange purchase. I’m a Amazon Prime member. Low overall rating based on return policy
