  1. Mountain Pirate

    4.0 out of 5 stars

    It’s pretty good

Value for money, hands down a great buy. This is not a $3000 spotter scope. Don’t expect it to be, but if you’re looking for a good entry level unit, this is it!

    Didn’t age well.

Optics are excellent, but exterior degraded quickly in a humid environment.

    Solid value for the money

Bought this for a recent trip to Yellowstone. We also rented a very high end scope. This product held up well. Certainly the picture quality was lower – but at $150 vs. $4K that should be expected. It allowed us to adequately locate wildlife at long range and kids could use without risk of breaking a more expensive, rented scope. The instances where we could observe an animal only through the rented, high-end scope but not at all through this one were few. We used with an extra camera tripod as the included tabletop tripod is pretty useless in the absence of a table. I’m happy with the purchase and the value. Just don’t go in expecting performance in line with the high end scopes and you should enjoy. The magnification is superior to most binoculars and at long range the abilty to steady on a tripod vs hold in your hands makes all the difference for spotting those bears!

    5.0 out of 5 stars

    Excellent for the Money

The optics are amazingly good for an entry level spotting scope. I get clear images at 60x zoom. The camera attachment is easy to use – but I can also just hold my cell phone up to the eye piece and take a picture. The zoom from 20x to 60x is easy to adjust, as is the focus. The table top tripod is okay, but I use the spotting scope with a full size tripod. I’m very pleased with this purchase.

    Amazing

I love the fact that I can use my phone to view the target instead of looking through the little tiny hole.

    Everything it says it is.

Wasn’t sure what to expect after reading the reviews and looking at countless others in the same price range. I’m happy to say this scope does exactly what the ad says. It’s a bit larger than I expected and feels extremely well built. The images are clear and bright all the way to the edges of the viewing field even at full magnification, and the controls are smooth and easy to use. The tripod was a nice surprise. The legs are metal, not plastic, as I expected, and it’s a lot more sturdy than some of the reviews led me to believe. I will be investing in a full size tripod for times I’m not using a table. The phone feature is awesome and it holds my large android even with the case on! Nice durable storage bat too! All in all a surprisingly great scope for the price. Update: added a couple pics just to show the full magnification. The mountain in the middle of the first pic is approximately 30-40 miles away and my 8×42 binoculars couldn’t see what was on top of the mountain in the second pic.

    Great value

Works great. Used it @50 ft. to sight in a pistol and 100 yds. to sight in a rifle. Clear views at both distances. I can read the ear tag numbers on my neighbors cows at 1000 yds. plus.

    Bigger than expected

This is a very nice scope but I somehow thought it wouldn’t be as large as it is. The tabletop tripod is nice, but I would argue that this piece of equipment calls for a full-size version.

    Fantastic for the price

First the negative. Product is cheaply made and the adjustments are not that great. Quality could be improved. Now the good. Price is great and affordable for most people. The picture through the lens is good. I was able to see good detail like grains of grass at around 500 yards +. My main reason for the purchase was for my 100 yard range. This is going to work great at this range. I haven’t tried the camera attachment yet so not sure about that yet. I definitely will give my 2 thumbs up 👍🏻 for this product.

My $50 Harbor Freight 20x60x60 is clearer..

The aesthetics are nice, that really doesn’t matter if the lenses have anomalies in your field of view….My $50 Harbor Freight spotting scope is clearer than this $190 unit, so it’s going back baby!!

    Doesn’t focus clearly

Everything about this scope is great except the optics, which unfortunately is the most important part. If you’re using it at 100 yards, it will probably be fine. But I’m using it to look at deer from 600 to over 1,000 yards away, and I want to be able to see their racks (antlers) clearly. It is impossible to focus clearly. The higher the magnification, the worse it is. On 20x, it is probably acceptable for most applications if you’re willing to settle for an image that’s viewable but not crisp. On any magnification above approximately 25, the problem just gets worse. At 60x, it’s just not usable. If a person’s eyesight were this bad, they would definitely need glasses. There is no way to get the image sharp and clear.Everything else is nice. The tripod, phone holder and carrying case are great in my opinion. I just wish it could focus clearly. I’m not sure if I’ll send it back or just leave it on the 20x setting permanently and settle for less than perfect focus. I doubt I’ll find a better scope in this price range. In fact, I’m not sure spending significantly more would guarantee anything better either. If anyone could recommend a spotting scope with truly sharp optics, I’m all ears!

    Clear glass good zoom

Impressed with how clear the image is. Very crisp and colorful. Zoom is strong as well. Disappointed with the field of view though. I was under the impression that since it’s 80mm it would have a wider view but it still seems very narrow even when on lowest zoom strength. Was hoping for a larger field of view. It’s also quite heavy and definitely is meant to be used on a tri pod almost exclusively. Build quality is also nice. Wish the eye cup came out farther. My eye lashes are constantly touching the glass and causing smudges and interfering with the view.

    Believe the reviews!

I was skeptical about how good this scope could be, but prior reviews swayed me to give this scope a try. I wanted to buy some optics to improve distant bird and wildlife sightings and also hopefully be able to capture photo images of what I was seeing. I did not want to spend a lot money, but also did want to buy a product that did a worthwhile job of providing pretty clear distant objects. The quality, ease of use and features on this scope have outperformed my expectations. As an example of the optics – the right side photo was taken through the scope at 60X with phone attachment – boat is nearly 1200 feet away. My Google 6 phone might be close to the size limits of the provided phone bracket, but it works fine once you get used to it. That same image can be seen through my Google 6 phone only – at 7X zoom on the left. I find to get the best photo quality through the scope, either use a remote shutter button or timer so no shaking of camera or tripod occurs. I can now identify birds that were a distant dot or vague image through 8X binoculars. For my basic amateur birder needs, this scope was an excellent choice.

Gosky 2019 Updated Scope vs Roxant Blackbird Scope

I have had and enjoyed using the Roxant Blackbird Scope. Mountains behind our house are about 4 miles away and I wanted something that could dial in a little better for observing wildlife and decided on this Gosky 2019 model. I’m impressed. The Gosky is better in almost every way except size, where it’s about double the size of the Roxant. The Roxant is great for it’s mobility, something you could grab and sit on the hood of a car while site seeing. This Gosky is a bit larger, but, the performance is pretty darn good. It’s ability to focus on distant objects is significantly better than the Roxant. The focus wheel on the Gosky is also easier to use. One thing I did notice on the Gosky is that zooming in/out on any object always requires refocusing as well (not so much on the Roxant). But the ease of focusing makes this a minor issue. As others have pointed out, the tripod is not the greatest. However, it serves my needs just fine. By the way, the tripod that comes with both the Gosky and Roxant are nearly identical.I like the Roxant for its size and it is convenient for shorter distances (several hundred yards or less). However, the Gosky for my purpose (generally sitting in my backyard with the scope sitting on a table) is now my go-to scope. The clarity and focus at long distances sets it apart.Comparing these two models is like comparing apples to oranges. I only compare the two since these are the only two I have experience with and may help someone else with a decision. The Roxant is about $80 while the Gosky is about $140. The specs are obviously different as well with the Roxant spec’d at 12-36×50 while the Gosky spec’s at 20-60×80. If your distance is within a few hundred yards, save your money and go with the Roxant. If you’re looking for a scope that can focus really well at long distances, then you may want to consider the Gosky (or a competitor that has similar specs).I see some scopes that are 15 times the cost of this Gosky with similar specs and I wonder what those scopes provide that this Gosky doesn’t (perhaps a better tripod, night vision?). If someone experienced with spotting scopes can shed some light on how the significantly more expensive models compare, that would be helpful.

Great for 50 and 100 yards

I mount this scope on my sturdy camera tripod for stability. Am using this spotting scope to locate points of impact POIs of my .357, .44, .45 and .500 caliber revolvers on NRA 50 yard slow-fire pistol targets, At 50 yards, these 24″ x 20″ B-6 targets fill up the field of view of this scope and the POIs are easily seen. At 100 yards, these targets fill up about half and the POIs are still quite discernible. I’ve not used the phone holder. The carrying bag with strap is very handy. Am only at the outdoor range in sunny weather so the image is very clear and bright. Have not used the scope past 100 yards.

    I bought the Gosky 2019 Updated 20-60×80 from Amazon.com

I bought the Gosky 2019 Updated 20-60×80 from Amazon.com at the end of June 2020 because I wanted to play with a spotting scope. The price of $118.00 vs. $599.99 allowed me to try a spotting scope without breaking the bank. The package arrived from Amazon on June 30, 2020. When it was delivered, it was packed in a cardboard box from Gosky which was then packed inside of an Amazon box with no cushioning material. The Amazon box had been punctured by something (forklift blade??) and the Gosky box could be seen through the hole. I asked the driver to wait while I opened the Amazon box. The Gosky box did not appear to have been damaged. So, I accepted the delivery.I have used the scope several times over the past month. It is easy to attach to my camera tripod as well as the included tripod from Gosky. The zoom is progressive from 20x to 60x and the focus is easy to adjust. The shape and function are nearly identical to the $599.99 scope. The craters on the moon are amazing. I never realized just how sharp and craggy the surface of the moon is. Birds in the back yard are easy to get a close view of. On the shooting range, it is easy to use on the included tripod and allows me to score my targets with out having to walk 50 to 100 yards to see where I hit.I currently have no plans to upgrade to a more expensive scope. While there may be some differences in optical clarity, this scope allows me to see the things I wanted to see very well. I am happy to give the scope a 5-star review.

Great Value / Great Product / Great Customer Service

I don’t typically write reviews, but I find them very useful in making purchasing decisions. If you are in the market for a good scope that combines the ease of use of your smart phone with optical magnification, this is the one. With just a glance at the instructions, I had it put together and using it within minutes. I found you need to take off any phone case you have installed if you want a good tight seal between the phone camera and the eyepiece. I had a blurry halo effect around the image until I did so. After removing the phone case, the blurriness cleared up and worked as expected and as advertised. Between a cheap pair of binoculars and a scope, I find the scope provides the best value for the money and the best way to capture the type of images and video I expect from a setup like this. Beyond smart phone use, the product is very rugged and sturdy and comes with a padded carrying case. The tabletop tripod included with it are good enough (metal and sturdy), but if you need height, invest in a good camera mount tripod. Now that I know I’m going to stick with this scope, I am thinking about accessories to make this product even more useful.Regarding customer service, after receiving my product, I registered my warranty right away. Within a few days, I received a welcome email from Alan at Gosky Optics Customer Service. Very prompt, very courteous. I am extremely happy with them and my purchase.

    Great for planetary observation

If you’re looking for a cheap telescope, this works pretty well. With a good, stable tripod (not the one it comes with) and a dark night you can see Saturns rings and the major bands in Jupiter. I wasn’t expecting much at this price but I have to say I’m impressed.

I bought this for sighting targets and nature. 1st let me state, what a surprise it was. Picture quality well surpassed my 12×50 binoculars, and that’s saying a lot. I would prefer a better fit in the supplied bag but I did not buy this for the bag. Highly recommend this

    Looks Great

Just received my spotting scope yesterday, I believe within 1 day of ordering so 👍! Packaging was good, everything was intact, tabletop tripod seems a tad flimsy but it’ll do what it is designed to do, been looking at some name brand scopes and the accessories and really couldn’t justify the cost for what I wad needing it for. So when I saw this with the tripod and the rig to attach my phone to the eye piece to take pictures or shoot video. I was convinced it was worth a look through, pun intended, haven’t had it in the field yet but chkd it out in my yard and clarity was good and took some pics 👌! If I find issues with it in practical use I’ll update this review so if you don’t see an update I’m still happy! Oh yeah came with a canvas carry bag as well, nice 👍!

A surprisingly good spotting scope for the price!

This is a very decent quality spotting scope for the price of a lesser quality scope. It produces a crisp, clear image at 20x magnification, and a very useable image at 60x – the point where other scopes in this price range can’t seem to produce anything. It’s easily as good as scopes that cost 3X more, in terms of image quality at the higher end of magnification. In the photos I attached, the tree in the distance is exactly 236 yards away. At 20x magnification, you can clearly see the dead branches of the tree. At 60x magnification, you can see the Robin sitting on the branch. This scope allows you to see a 5″ tall bird, up close, from 700+ feet away. Look at the photos. The scope seems well-constructed, and the focus knob has plenty of travel to it, allow you to fine-tune your focal point easily. The rubber caps that protect the optics fit snuggly. The sunshade at the objective end of the scope is adjustable to cut down on glare. The cel phone adapter that fits on the eyepiece allows a phone to be fitted to the scope so pics can be taken through the eyepiece. That’s how the pics of the bird in my sample photos were taken. It’s a great way to get pics through the scope, photos that would otherwise be impossible, since camera lenses simply aren’t capable of that kind of magnification. I can’t wait until the next full moon. The craters will be spectacular when viewed through this scope! The only area that leaves any room for improvement is the included tripod, which frankly, while sturdy enough, isn’t really suited at all to a scope like this. There’s no fine-movement adjustment, which is frustrating when trying to locate an object even at 20x magnification. Most people who own such spotting scopes as this end up using them on a large, stable photo or video tripod, and that’s what I use, although it IS possible to use the included tripod on the hood of a car or a table or other surface that gets the scope close enough to your eye-level to use. Do yourself a favor and take the money you saved buying this scope, and put it towards a decent tripod.5-stars for value and image quality, 4 stars for the included nylon bag, which could use a tad more padding on the bottom, to protect the scope. Or a redesign to a rigid softcase style bag, which would be even better. Overall, 5-stars.Buy this scope.

Great for target practice but just OK for phone pics

When unboxing, the item came in a nice pouch packaged well. I thought the tripod was a little cheesy and too lightweight. I would get a better tripod to use with this. The scope didn’t have any identification of the name of the brand that it was, looked very generic. If using it for just a spotting scope without the phone adapter it was great at the shooting range. It was difficult to zoom in on a bird but once I zoomed in on some branches and leaves I noticed the color was not as bright as looking at it with the naked eye. Using the phone adapter with my iPhone 13 with the different lenses you have to make sure you put the correct phone lens over the hole of the adapter to get a picture image. It was difficult and once I did get the phone situated in the right position it took too much time and the quality of the picture was not that great. For me time is of the essence and it took too long to get my phone situated for a wildlife pic.I was planning on using the scope for a Yellowstone trip and wanted to use my iPhone camera instead of lugging around my DSLR camera and equipment. I think I’m going to choose my DSLR camera over this scope for getting pictures at Yellowstone. For the price, the scope is great for the shooting range but not much else. I’m a little leery as to whether or not this is really made by Gosky because there were no identifying marks or brands on the scope like the listing showed.I will be returning this scope.

    Great Value!

Needed a spotting scope to help me sight my rifle @ 100 yards or so. Did a lot of looking before I bought another brand with similar specs and pricing (24-72×70 and ~$199, respectively). Unfortunately, I wasn’t pleased with the image quality, particularly at max magnification. After more research, I bought the Gosky 20-60×80 scope for comparison purposes. The first scope had a slight advantage in magnification but a slight deficit in objective lens size and glass. The Gosky touts BAK4 optics while the other scope is BK-7. Boy, did I underestimate this difference. The Gosky image quality is clearly superior and lacks nothing in terms of magnification compared to the other, higher-powered scope. I attached a couple of images for direct comparison. The washed-out image is the original scope at max magnification (72x). The clearer and more color-rich image is the Gosky at 60x magnification. I shot both images from the same tripod mount with my iPhone 8 (max camera zoom) using the digiscope adapter that came with the Gosky. The digiscope adapter is a great addition to the product and just adds to the already solid value proposition, imho. The pics are of the peak of my neighbor’s roof, which is approximately 75 yards away, according to my challenged eyeballs. The great reviews of this scope are legit based on my experience. The other scope had some good attributes (i.e. solid build, nice hard case, etc) but it was lacking where it counted – optics. The Gosky delivered in that respect and is very reasonably priced for what you get. I’m sure it does not perform like a $1500 scope but it’s not priced like one either. Very pleased with this purchase and would definitely recommend.

Can see Target Easley at 100 yards zoomed or unzoomed.

Can see the target easily at 100 yards zoomed or unzoomed. If trying to zero at 200 yards zoomed, it needs to be in bright sunlight or have a spotlight on the target if in shaded areas.

    Good for 70m archery

I am relatively new to shooting archery at olympic distances, and wanted a scope I could use for practice at 70 meters and the occassional tournament. This scope does the trick! For practice sessions, the phone mount is great…and I can see the target and my shots easily without even moving through my phone’s camera. For tournaments, i have to use the eye piece, which is plenty clear for viewing a 122cm target face. The scope feels rugged enough to last, and the only thing I didn’t care for was the included tripod. But with a 1/4 20 bushing attached, i could easily use a more rugged and adjustable tripod that I already had…so no issues there. Time will ultimately tell how long this scope will hold up, but I feel confident that should be able to get a few years…and my money’s worth…out of it.

    Great product for the price.

This product has preformed better than expected for the purchase price. Used on multiple occasions to view birds and other wildlife. The included small tripod was useful while seated but the addition of a monopod or taller tripod would be recommended as with the field of view it is difficult to steady from a standing position.

    Overall I think it’s a good value

I’m 68 and my eyes aren’t close to what they once were. I use this spotting scope for target shooting. I typically never shoot beyond 125 yards using 22LR so I can’t offer any insight beyond 125 yards. This scope even at level 30 makes checking my target between shots possible. It’s clear, easy to focus and all I’ll ever need. The one down side in my opinion is the tripod. If your at a range with a very solid bench I’m guessing it’ll work fine. I’m using a card table in the desert and the slightest touch of the table and everything moves. Instead I have a high quality carbon fiber tripod for my dslr that I use alongside the table that works great.I have to add I’ve never used the phone mount so I can’t comment on it’s use-ability.

    Powerful and good quality

Initially I was going to buy a Nikon P1000, with 3,000mm zoom, for my first-grade son to see the moon and stars. And then I bumped into these scopes, which isn’t as powerful as the $1,100 camera, but was powerful enough to impress a first grader for $900 less. I bought it for my son for Christmas. This is a wonderful gift! I am now shopping for a similar product for my nephew for his birthday.

    Top notch! Excellent quality!!!

This is a great quality scope set up. It comes with a really nice soft case that has some good padding in it and a Velcro divider to separate your scope and your tripod and the phone attachment. Everything seems like great quality and attaching the phone on and getting it set up was so simple and easy because it isn’t included in the instructions, but I was able to figure it out in about a minute, I think this thing is great and having two zooms one on your phone and one on the scope itself with the phone attachment makes awesome to get a little extra zoom and very good clarity in the video. I was looking at my birdfeeders in my backyard about 20 yards away and was able to focus really easy with the scope and then also when I put the attachment on , I wanted to include pics of the case because I didn’t see any reviews with it so I was kind of wondering when I bought it. I really like the case because I’ll be carrying this in my Northface hiking pack, which also offers protection and I don’t have to carry my expensive canon camera all the time because this lets me use my iPhone With zoom to do videos and pictures, which is amazing. I was kind of skeptical because of some bad reviews but I don’t know how they had issues. Mine arrived in wonderful, excellent condition no damage package really super well and it’s amazing. I wasn’t expecting this much quality for the money but it way exceeded my expectations

OK for Target Shooting – within limits

I bought this to use on the rifle range. I hoped to use this for spotting up to 300 yards, but I knew that the distance might be stretching the capacity of the scope. At the outset, one has to say that there is actually nothing wrong with this scope. The scope appears to be well-made and sturdy. Adjusting the scope for power and focus is easy. The phone mount actually works pretty well. You have to fool around with it to get a good fit on the spotting scope and it takes some patience to get the target centered in the spotting scope so that you can see the image on the camera. But it does work, and the images come out pretty well. I did not modify the images above to enhance them in any way other than to crop them so that I could post them in this review. I didn’t bother to use the included tripod because I had a much sturdier version of my own. The padded case works well and should be substantial enough to protect the scope from damage due to the regular bumps that it will invariably receive. I gave this scope four stars because it does well for the money, but it does not have the quality found in scopes that are far more expensive. If you are intending to use this for the range, be aware that your target distance will determine your degree of satisfaction with this scope. I used spatter targets for my 5.56mm rifle, hoping that the targets would highlight enough for the shots to be seen on the scope. (The 5.56 mm round leaves the same size hole as .22, or .223 rounds – so it is pretty small.) I put the scope on a good solid tripod on a concrete target table. If I was careful not to touch the scope very much I could see the shots at 200 yards pretty well. The photo on the left was taken of a target 200 yards downrange with my iPhone that was attached to the scope. There was a pretty good wind blowing at the range, and the wind affected the scope to the extent that I really had trouble seeing where the rounds impacted. When the wind was calm, of course, the image improved. When I used the scope for my targets at 300 yards, It was nearly impossible to get a clear view of the target because of the wind blowing the spotting scope around. The camera has a quicker eye than I do, and it caught some good shots at 300 yards. As you can see, you can just make out the shots on the spatter target. The targets in the photos are 17 inches in diameter, and the bulls-eye is 3 inches in diameter. The quality of optics really makes a difference. I use a 4.5x14x44 Sig Sauer scope, and the shots on the rifle scope appear clearer than with the spotting scope for 200 yards. If you are shooting at 25-150 yards, I think that this scope will make you happy. At distances greater than that, you have to balance the small dent this makes in your budget against your need to see your shots at greater distances. If you are not going to use splatter-type targets, then scale down your expectations. At the bottom line, this is a well-made spotting scope for the money that will work on the range at reasonable yardage. If you want to get a spotting scope for regular use at 200+ yards, then you will probably have to pay a lot more for a scope that has much clearer optics.

    Great Value for the Money!

The media could not be loaded.

My bird watching friends recommended spotting scopes that were way out of my price range! Scopes with prices up to $2,500! I decided as a hobbyist birder I would first try an entry level scope. After reading reviews, I decided on the Gosky 20-60X80. Oh my, was I shocked when I received the scope. It is very solid and of a really nice quality, better than I had expected. It is easy to use, has a sharp focus knob and magnification knob. The included bag is a bit tight and hard to get the scope in and out of but the included tabletop tripod is perfectly adequate. I have mounted the scope to a full size tripod I used for DSLR photography so I have more adjustments and can use it on the ground. You can see the photos I took with the included mobile phone adapter (20X scope magnification and 2X iPhone lens). Check out the video of the Downey Woodpeckers. (20X scope magnification 1X iPhone) They were all taken during cloudy weather, so the light was really not great. I guess the only small drawback to this scope is it is good but not great in low light, especially on higher magnification. I find that by putting the phone on the scope makes it much more comfortable than keeping your eye on the eyepiece, especially when waiting for a bird to land on the feeder. I do like the adjustable eyepiece relief. Is it a $2500 scope, no, but for $125 it is a good, solid scope that gives a clear magnified view so I can identify and photograph birds. I bought it as a starter scope, but as a hobbyist I am not sure why I would spend another $1000+ to upgrade to something that is perhaps marginally better, unless perhaps I was a professional.

Spotting Scope Amazing, Phone Adopter Not So Much

Love the spotting scope. I used it to observe the moon. The image is very clear. It works just as described. The phone adopter not so much, it does not come with instructions on how to use the phone adopter. I had to google that information. I was able to align the ring hole to the main camera on my phone. It was extremely difficult to attach to the eyepiece without moving the ring hole out of place. But the worse part was that the adopter wouldn’t securely mount to the eyepiece. I was afraid that it would fall and break my phone. Not sure if I will keep it since the purpose for this purchase was to take pictures of the moon and videos of sunrises and sunsets. Might need to purchase a different phone scope adopter.I subtracted one star due to phone adopter not working as described.

Very powerfull zoom and clear image. It is an amazing product

The product exceeded my expectations. I have done a previous research on it and it was a very good purchase. The only thing that I recommend for whoever buy this scope it is to purchase a professional tripod since the one that came with the package it is just for hunting (if you are laid down on the field or put the scope on a table). A professional tripod will allow you to extract much more from the scope since you will be able to use it on all positions (like seated in a char, or in a adult or child stand up position). Forget about trying to handle it on your hands and watch – that is not possible since the zoom it is too powerfull and very small hand movement will prevent you to have a viewable image. This is not a telescope and it is intend to use to view landscape, far way objects and hunting, however, the image you get it from the Moon is incredible. Have fun !

Purchased for archery spotting and exceeded expectations

I bought this for viewing archery targets and while it’s larger than I expected I’m very impressed. The image is clear and focus/zoom controls are easy.Tonight is a cloudy night in the Midwest but I was able to use the included mount to see the moon with it (see picture). Obviously it’s not as effective as a quality telescope but for me this is a definite win.Overall I’m very pleased

Base magnification great but variable zoom function is pretty useless.

I bought the item a couple of months ago and using regularly. Picture quality is great at base zoom of 20x. But increasing the zoom value to 60x does not make it any better. Therefore if you are on the market for a scope, better purchase a fix but bigger magnification unit.
